Yes. I have a Family MobileMe account (my account is the master). I'm not sure why some folks are getting this. I wonder if Account Type matters?

i have a family MobileMe account as well and am getting the exact same message about being unable to move to iCloud at this time.

After reading posts my remaining questions are:

1. When iCloud is setup with @domain account what email is used for the user under iCloud? The iCloud website info implies a new @me email account is created for the user.

I believe that you can now log in with either your @domain or your new @me account. The @me is automatically added as your alternate email.

So you need Lion for OS X, but only Vista for Windows. Wow, Apple has better legacy support for Windows than they do OS X.

I have 5 Macs, only one of which (my work mac which I don't own) can upgrade to lion. One is even an early intel mini mac that can't. (Only core 2 duo intels can, it's a core duo)

So I'm going to lose my ability to sync all of my computer together, which was working perfectly. Most importantly of which was keychains. I can put a password in one computer, it would sync to all, so keeping track of keychains was a breeze. I do everything on the web and keeping track of all those keychains was imposable. I'm sure there are third party options, but I don't really trust other companies to have access to all of my passwords.

I'm going to lose Idisk which I used as my way to access all of my paperwork (I scan everything into a paperless system) where ever I am.

I invested a lot in these computer 4-5 years ago. They are still working fine, apple is just removing the software that tied them all together. I looked into how much it would cost to replace all of my computers with newer versions, over 5,000 dollars even going with lower end options.

Not happy with the iCloud update, I'll be waiting until the last posable moment to transition.

I am excited about ISO 5 in general though, my iPhone 4 will be happy.

This is exactly the same for me, are they serious I will loose all my syncing between the computers?? I don't get it with all the flashy pic sync between the phone and the computer..
My Mac's are all less than 2 years old with 2 being 2011 machines and I will loose the sync between them?? WTF!!!!!!!!!

Mind you it might stop me getting double emails which I have been battling with. but email rules etc etc jeez

IPad2 iPhone 4s Powermac G5 PowerBook G4

Can't install Lion or Snow on the G5 or G4. My main email is a Mac mail acct I've had since the beginning....

So is it then upgrade all or none to iCloud for mail syncing to work? Whats going to happen with my mac mail if my home computer is not in the cloud and my ios5 devices are?

Obviously this means I buy a new computer before June or change my main email to something else? All very confusing and not at all representing the "it just works" apple motto.

You should wait. Blackberry is is the middle of a nationwide outage that's lasted three days

The outage is international. The news reports I read said it started in Europe and the Middle East, now it's also affecting North America (or at least the US).

That's why I'm cautious about "the cloud." Blackberry's outage affects both email and web browsing because both are done at RIMs servers and the results are then sent to the phone. I never liked that idea which is why I'll never own a Blackberry (well...that and I'm too heavily invested in Apple with purchased apps, music, etc).

Unrelated to this post - I too am getting the error when trying to convert from MM to icloud.

After having some hassle with find my friends i have discovered a seriously annoying bug/quirk.

My apple ID was used in a MobileMe account for just over a year, i had the account before i got MobileMe and had used the manage account page (appleid.apple.com) to change my login to a name rather than an email address. (make it much simpler to sign in typing one word instead of an email address)

When i transitioned over to iCloud everything seemed to work fine until i tried to set up find my friends. find my friends does not let you log in with a named iCloud account, only email.
so after using my @me.com address to log on successfully and trying to accept an invite i got an error message asking me to verify my account by visiting appleid.apple.com, the website however was down.

After some frustrating attempts i finally managed to get in and hit the use primary email address as login button, which had no effect at all. Finally i found out that iCloud has given me a 2nd apple ID using my @me.com address as login with the same password as my named account which has all me emails, contacts and calendars in working fine.

However, because my email address is linked and verified to my real named apple id i cannot verify this new account.

This basically means i now have a different login for iTunes/appstore using my named appleID while having to use the fake 2nd account to log in to iCloud features and have no way at all to access find my friends because as far as appleid.apple.com is concerned the named account is linked to my email address and the 2nd account cannot exist because the @me.com address is already used by another account.

I just keep getting an error message from me.com/move when I agree to the terms and click begin... just says unable to move you at this time.

WTF? :(

Okay, so I'm getting big headaches with all this.

Setup: iPhone, iPad, OS X Lion
MobileMe - used for email and used to be for contacts, iCal etc
Gmail - used for iTunes, Apps etc

Since moving nothing is actually syncing. Do I let the Gmail iCloud sync contacts, or do I let my MobileMe?

I created a test contact called AAA AAA so it'd go directly to the top of my contacts.... it didn't sync. Not to my iPad or Mac.

Not just contacts not syncing, reminders, iCal, Bookmarks - nothing.

Ideas???

You know, I wish that Apple would just make some way for me to merge my accounts. I don't like the Gmail one and I certainly don't like having 2 accounts!

:apple:

this iCloud start looks a bit like the mobileme start.:D

I will wait till next spring before I move from Mobileme to iCloud.
It was working great for me, until millions of you poseurs started hopping on and hogging all the network capacity ;)

I want to keep mobile me separate for now because my mac at work is still running SL and I need MM for calendar syncing. So - if I move iTunes ID over now (I want to check out iCloud) will I still be able to move MM over later - when I get Lion at work?

I've transitioned from MobileMe to Google Apps for sync services because I was afraid of this. Plus, most people use Google Calender for tracking their schedule. I've kept using the MobileMe contacts because Google contact sync is a bit screwy.

But this sounds like the right solution for the moment.

Can you keep using a MobileMe ID for, say, contacts, but an AppleID used for purchases for the rest of iCloud? I know this kind of dichotomy was possible in iOS4 (gmail for mail and calendar, mm for contacts). At work, so haven't upgraded yet.

So I've read through all 13 pages, and I just wanted a little clarification from anyone who has done this: upgrading an iPhone 4 to iOS 5 but keeping my MobileMe account a MobileMe account and not upgrading to iCloud. Is MobileMe still able to sync everything (including keychains) with the phone and Mac running 10.7.2?

I keep getting the error message telling me to try again later.... so i do.. and I get the same thing

I had the same problem, but then I kept trying immediately after the failure message. After the 4th or 5th time, it went through and converted my account.

is there a way to delete a @me.com account? i created it and have no use for it and its attached to my @gmail.com account

This is what I'm worried about: my wife and each have our own MobileMe account, and want to keep things that way -- I don't want to be synching to her calendars or bookmarks and vice-versa. However, we use my Apple ID for all app and media purchases -- obviously we don't want to buy things twice. So what now with the iCloud update?

I can't believe there are so many people still trying to figure this out. Home Sharing has been out for a while and that allows you to share purchases between members of your family with different iTunes accounts.

There has been no need to share one Apple ID for purchases for quite some time now.

Important information for those with both @domain.com and @me.com accounts

I'm in the same boat, and I won't be able to try this exactly until I'm off of work tonight. Good luck to us both. If you find an answer I'd appreicate a reply or PM letting me know how it went! Thanks.

So I am one of those people who have an @me.com email address for MobileMe with contacts, calendars, etc. and a @domain.com apple ID for iTunes purchases.
Since I don't use the @me.com email address, instead of moving my @me.com address to iCloud and keeping 2 accounts I decided to set up iCloud with my @domain.com apple ID and only have one, making things easier in the future.
This worked easily enough on my Mac, although I did need to sign out of MobileMe to enable some of the features (photo stream, bookmarks sync). I then told my computer to sync everything with iCloud (calendars, contacts, bookmarks, photo stream, documents, back to my mac, find my mac). For everything except mail and calendar this happened seamlessly without me having to do everything. It is all there on iCloud.
For mail, I didn't set up an email address, because I'm still hoping one day to be able to merge my @me.com address into this account. So I just leave that option un-ticked for now, if there is no change by the time MobileMe shuts down I'll start a new @me.com address then.
For calendars, each of my calendars had to be manually transferred from MobileMe to iCloud. So I set up a duplicate calendar along with its corresponding reminder on iCloud. Then I exported each MobileMe calendar seperately to the desktop, and imported them as the corresponding iCloud calendar and reminder. Voila everything transferred successfully!

Still having issues getting my iPhone updated to iOS5 though!

Let me know if anything is unclear or you have further questions. I'm happy to help

Any one else having issues with the mail saying the username and pass is wrong and when you click on mail in the iCloud.com it just errors and wants to send a report to apple?

Lost my contacts. I'm in limbo. MobileMe says I've transferred to iCloud. iCloud says I need to transfer from MobileMe, but when I go back to MobileMe it says I've already transferred. Repeat process. Bang head on desk. Waste time. Get mad at Apple. Repeat process.

I've been swallowed by the CLOUD!

Finally! got the iPhone restore to go through (airplane mode) and got the MobileMe to iCloud migration to go through (just trying ALOT) iCloud seems to have gone through without a hiccup, just waiting on the iPhoto/Aperture upgrades to finish.

Then on to upgrading my mom's phone to iOS 5 and her MobileMe migration.

You paint a very funny picture! :)

Simple, they're trying to force you to use Lion which is a really bad policy IMHO.

Yes they are and I'm thrilled.

Just the thought of all the people that will buy new computers and phones just to have iCloud is sure to make my Apple Stock soar...

In the meantime, I'm sitting back enjoying my bug free, glitch free computing experience with my highly optimized Snow Leopard.

My, it's good to be working with a proven OS.

Now that the public has the Magical iCloud, after a few revs it will be ready for those of us with PATIENCE. :D
