For those of you who have the following setup:

1. @me.com for Sync services (i.e. Mobile Me acct)
2. @domain.com for iTunes acct/Apple ID (i.e. Gmail)

If you do not use your @me.com as your primary email but do use Mobile Me for sync services I would suggest to use your @domain.com to setup iCloud and keep your Mobile Me acct separate for now.

Later on we will find out weather we will be able to merge our @me.com email addresses into iCloud or if we close our Mobile Me acct we can reaquire our @me.com email address through activating the mail portion of the iCloud control panel.

That is the best case scenario at the moment. However, please note, this only applies if you do not use your @me.com email address as a primary email.

As per Apple FAQ the ideal situation is to have one email address for Apple ID/iCloud.

I want to keep mobile me separate for now because my mac at work is still running SL and I need MM for calendar syncing. So - if I move iTunes ID over now (I want to check out iCloud) will I still be able to move MM over later - when I get Lion at work?

grrrrr all my events r twice on iCal now

Go into your Mail/Calendar accounts settings, and check to make sure you don't have BOTH MobileMe and iCloud calendar accounts active. If you moved to iCloud and your appointments are there, then just turn off Calendars on MobileMe.

That will get rid of the "duplicates".

Okay I'm sorry if I'm repeating a question but if I have a Mobile Me account that is used only to sync contacts and calendars (do not use the email because I couldn't be bothered asking everyone to change and I was happy with my gmail account) do I need to sign in with MM in iCloud to keep my contacts and calendars? Or will they just come across from my laptop and iPhone if I use my iTunes Apple ID which is my gmail account?

I don't want to lose my contacts but I also don't want to run into any problems by using two emails. Anybody in the same boat who did not use their Mobile Me account and still has their contacts or alternatively lost them?

I have this exact question too.
But I am 90% sure that you should be able to sign up for iCloud with your gmail apple ID and then transfer all your contacts and calendars from one of your macs same as if you were starting a brand new mobile me account.
That's what I plan on trying, anyway. I'll be sad to lose my MobileMe address because it's the same as my gmail one and I might have wanted to use it in the future, but hopefully Apple will make some way of transferring it before MobileMe closes next year.

Ugh not very happy at all I can't access my email on my iphone, mac, or icloud.com. What a seamless upgrade. I knew moving from mobileme to icloud would have problems. Oh well.

Does anyone know if you use an Apple ID that's NOT MobileMe or .Mac(like a Gmail account) and still setup a new email account in iCloud? I use MobileMe right now, but only for syncing and to push email to my phone rather than using Gmail directly. I don't really care if my MobileMe stuff makes it over, but I'd still like to use iCloud to push email to my phone rather than Gmail directly and I was wondering if I could setup a new email account within my iCloud account while still using my older Apple ID. This would allow me to consolidate everything under one Apple ID which seems like it would be easier in the long run. If not, I guess I'll do the dual Apple ID thing with iCloud/iTunes.

I'm in the same boat, and I won't be able to try this exactly until I'm off of work tonight. Good luck to us both. If you find an answer I'd appreicate a reply or PM letting me know how it went! Thanks.

Yeah I'm currently updating my iPhone to iOS5.
Once I get up the **** to upgrade to iCloud I'll let you know. I just really can't afford to lose all my calendars in the middle of semester...

I'm just annoyed that now I have two IDs. I use my @gmail.com address to log into everything iTunes, the Apple Store, and my Developer account. My @me.com address has been moved to everything that is iCloud. If I go into appleid.apple.com and try to change my ID to my @me.com address, it doesn't let me!

yeah same here. says it's already in use.

Anyone know how the Documents iCloud stuff works? I downloaded the new Pages, Keynote and Numbers apps, made a few docs in each for testing and I check iCloud and nothing's on there.

I have the iCloud feature turned on and the apps are also specifically turned on to send to iCloud. They even say they have about 20-30MB of info on iCloud each.

But I sign in using both my iTunes and my Me accounts on iCloud, click on iWork and nothing's there.

Anyone know what's up?

First of all I'm new to mac

I set up iCloud with my gmail address and then set up a @me address. Can I and should I switch my iCloud address to be my @me address?

Remaining Questions

After reading posts my remaining questions are:

1. When iCloud is setup with @domain account what email is used for the user under iCloud? The iCloud website info implies a new @me email account is created for the user.

2. If I am a family and have all my kids currently on the same itunes account then I need to setup new iCloud accounts for each of them or do I want to share them like the itunes account?

3. If the kids have separate gamecenter logins not tied to an appleid can these be merged or does gamecenter still allow you to login separate from iCloud?

I have some old mobileme accounts which we don't use anymore and I am trying to decide whether to use those accounts for Icloud or setup new accounts for the kids and family?

I will still have to use my old appleid for purchases since I don't want to split purchases between accounts.
