I think the problem is fundamental and unsolvable without a tectonic upheaval at Apple. The company is organized to function with a strong visionary CEO who could simultaneously orchestrate both strategy and minutia. It was Jobs who coordinated all the isolated secrecy "cells" within Apple to create a cohesive user experience.

An additional burden is the loss of Jobs's Next team which were the core of the Apple. The gurus who created OS X are long gone, as are those who masterminded iOS. Some view Jobs's greatest strength as his ability to build teams of A players with strong personalities who normally would not work together. Now Apple bleeds talent.

This is just so sad. I was troubleshooting the Health App on Mom's iPhone yesterday and it's literally a beta app. To see such shoddiness on an Apple product takes me right back to the pre-Jobs Apple of the 90s. They have size and momentum now so they will lumber along like Microsoft, but the magic is already gone.

If you are a dropbox user, you cannot even think about switching to icloud drive for photos. It does not function in the same way. If I delete a photo off my device, it is removed from icloud photos =/

Of course it does, that's how it's supposed to work. Any photos you want to save, you create a separate album and put them in there. iCloud Photo Library makes a copy of the original photo and puts it in the new Album. Same thing if you mark a photo as a favorite, it will make a copy and put that copy in the newly created Favorites Album that it will automatically make. If you delete the Favorites album (or delete a photo from favorites - and the same goes for an album that you custom create), iCloud Photo Library will delete them everywhere but your original photos are still stored in the "All Photos" Album.

This is what I mean about so much ignorance around here. People don't really know the product. They don't take the time to play with it and see how it works. They just make broad assumptions and then come here and spout ignorance in their rants. It's pathetic.

P.S. And of course, you should be backing up your Mac's HD using Time Machine, so all your photos are not only on your HD but also backed up locally. At that point you would have THREE copies of your complete photo library: Mac HD, local backup volume and in the cloud. Do people even think anymore?

If you don't believe me, do a test, try it, and find out. Do what people should be doing in the first place to actually know the product before judging it, criticizing it, and spouting false information.

You can apply that quote to you regarding your Google posts

Umm, no not really. I've used Google search, Google Drive, Gmail and Docs. And everything I've said about Google's business model is true.

When you can provide just a single proof of Google Drive lying info then your posts won't be spouting false information

You have been accusing all the people on this thread of ignorants, stop doing that, reflect and judge your actuation

Bingo. Couldn't agree more with your assessment. That special rock-solid excellence of experience is gone. Nowadays it's somehow a lot of show-biz hype/celebrity with Microsoft technical execution.

Cook seems to just be grinning from ear to ear with satisfaction though. Don't see him waking up anytime soon.

I just tried that. I deleted the photo from my phone, and boom it was deleted from the drive....that is not what I want to happen. I want the photo off of my phone, but to stay in the drive. There is no way to do that. That is what dropbox does. It actually stores the photo in the cloud even after being deleted on my device.

If you really think Nadella actually has made sweeping changes to Microsoft, you haven't been paying much attention.

And you don't comprehend well. I said in the next 3-5 years MSFT could potentially beat out the competition with the direction he is taking MSFT.

iCloud, Mobile Me, iWork online, etc... they all have major issues. There are entire companies that specialize in doing just this (Dropbox, Google) and they do it well. There is no point in competing with them.

Well that defeats the whole purpose and intent of iCloud Photo Library. What DropBox is doing is simplistic photo back up. That's what OneDrive does too. If you're worried about storage space, turn on "optimize storage".

Doubt it.

Doubt it.

I know. That is why there is a lot of confusion about it. They should have just left it called photo stream, since that is what it is but can do more than 1000 photos.

Except everything he has done so far has been the same course they were going with anyway. So you're saying that Microsoft might beat the competition based on things that started while Ballmer was in charge.

Well, it's more than just Photostream, it does more than that.

Autocorrection, but it is easy to infer that I was saying "selling" instead of "lying"

Dude, Google's whole business model is based around data mining. YOUR DATA. Your mail. Your search habits, Your web browsing history, Your YouTube video watching habits (and likes, and favorites, and playlists), and for those that use Google+ (suckers...., and no, I don't have a Facebook account either), they mine that too. Now, are they scanning what's on your Google Drive and selling data from that? I don't know, but why would I, why should I, ever trust Google with any of my personal data. I mean, as I said elsewhere, if you don't understand Google's business model by now, there's nothing I can do to help you.

"Don't be Evil" went out the window a long time ago.

I know perfectly the business model of Google, sell ad space through user profiles of the data they collect bu I'm still waiting just a ****ing proof about Google selling the data they collect. But you're free to spout false information and accuse others of ignorants.

I mean, as I said elsewhere, if you don't understand Google's business model by now, there's nothing I can do to help you. You're just being actively ignorant or just plainly lying, you decide

YOU are the product. They sell your data to advertisers. Chill out man - anger control, okay?

iCloud is the place where we are supposed to let all our reserved information transit, right?

OK, now what on iCloud Photo Library?

OK, I don't like either how my photos are being used. Can I turn it off and not lose any photos's on my iPhone? I want to go back and sync the old fashion way with iPhoto till we get some form of selective sync with this service.

My question, do I lose any photos if I uncheck the iCloud Photo Library (Beta)??

Thank you,

You make it sound like Google is selling your data. That's not accurate at all. Brands ask for specific demographics and customer profiles and they help serve ads on their network to those brands based on criteria. At no time are they selling YOU (specifically) or your personal information.

Also - you can opt out.

Clearly no one can help you either.

Ummm, no. If apple can't do it properly and quickly, they should just exit the cloud service market and leave it to the experts.

I don't know what your experience has been of late, but I'm increasingly frustrated by the bugs, glitches, and unfortunate surprises Apple has been bringing to the table. The world will not end if people take their time crafting great products. But rushing technology could literally mess things up for a lot of people. Pick your battles.
