That just disables automatic installation of updates. It still checks for, downloads and nags you to update.

I was referring to turning off App Updates under Automatic Downloads in iTunes & App Store settings. I haven't tested but I believed that was the intent of that setting to work for OS and apps. Maybe not.

If you're getting notifications that your free 5GB is almost full, then it likely WILL be full fairly soon. You might as well upgrade your storage and get ahead of that.

Really, it's $1 a month. That's practically nothing. The only reason Apple even charges it is to ensure people who are using iCloud storage are really using it; they don't want millions of abandoned accounts with 20-30GB of data in them taking up space. The $1 a month makes sure the space is at least being used by an active account.

That's only for apps.

There's a separate setting for iOS automatic updates in: Settings - General - Software Update - Automatic Updates

That setting was introduced not too long ago. Maybe iOS 12 or 13? Again, though, it only prevents automatic installation. Doesn't prevent downloads and nagging.

uhh the guy telling me my example is nothing like the icloud storage gives me an example that is nothing like the icloud storage. lol.

When the 14 days is up, you no longer have access to that "free service" whereas we still do have access because its free 5 GB. For years we didn't have an advertisement but all of a sudden we have it and most, as usual take it.

Same people that said "ApPlE DoEsN'T SLoW pHoNES doWn" or "ThE iPhONe dOesN'T hAvE a BatTeRy IsSue" then 2 years later Apple says oh BTW, those batteries are defective, there is a recall...considering 50% of the people already upgrading due to the damaged battery.

What can I say? There has been suggestions here for you but you don’t seem willing to take them. You probably would have been mad if Apple didn’t warn you about nearing the iCloud storage limit too. Like I said in my above post, some “free trials” will continue after the set period of you don’t choose to opt out( I’m from Australia so that may be the difference) I’m not necessarily referring to anything Apple related but free trials in general. You seem like the type of person that just wants the free stuff and doesn’t want to pay for that little but extra of a safety net. If you’re going to cry about it just turn of iCloud, you can’t have it both ways

I just pay the 80p a month for extra storage. No big deal.
That's wisdom. I know people who paid around £1,000 for an iPhone, who complain that they have to delete photos on their phone and lose them permanently because they don't have enough storage, and who are too tight to pay for 50GB of storage. They absolutely refuse. 80p is too much money. £1000 is not.

This baffles me to the point where I want to rip all my hair off.

the logic isn’t there. I don’t get it. I pay for the 2TB so I won’t ever have to worry about running out of space and I use the same iCloud for my phone and my iPad. I’ll get a MacBook soon and I’ll hook it there as well so the cost is worth it to me. It just makes no sense complaining about something when they are clearly not taking the advice given. I guess that’s just how people are. Just wanting to complain.

To be the devil's advocate, some people are used to having something tangible for what they paid for. Thus, people are not minding paying $1000 for a phone, as it's something tangible. However, paying even 99c for something not tangible, a software/service, becomes problematic for them as they don't feel they get "anything", and the idea of having to pay it as a subscription wreck havoc in their minds, as they think they are paying an infinite amount of money for nothing.

But then there are another group of people who are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for virtual gems in their mobile games.... :D Oh well.

People just need to be better educated. This is not the 20th century anymore.

I guess to each their own 😂😂😂 I prefer to keep my data safe somewhere so that God forbid if something happens to my phone my information will still be accessible. That’s how I look at it.

It’s probably too technical for some users to worry about data etc but even if you calculate the sheer cheapness of the iCloud storage. Like 80p per month! That’s £9.60 a year, a whole freaking year! Cheaper than a cocktail at a bar! I’ve got nothing more to say! This is why it always rubs me the wrong way when people come up with the cost factor for iCloud storage.

Yep. At $1/month ($3 for family), it's well worth having regular automatic backups since I know I won't be religious enough to manually backup my devices to iTunes for PC much less the non-techies in the family.

How the hell do you turn this **** off? BRO I DON'T NEED A REMINDER EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SO DAMN ANNOYING!

IT POPS UP ON LOCK SCREEN, ON EVERY UNLOCK, ON EVERY APP. JEEZ YOU THIRSTY ASS APPLE BRO IF I WANT IT ILL UPGRADE IT!
I could probably live with daily, but not if it's like the second scenario.

Apple will start having Ads in between your text messages and will require you to pay so you don't have to wait for ads and these guys will say "just pay its cool."

Apples next product...iPhone comes with a FREE Charger...but it only charges 50% of your phone...to get the remaining 50% pay $10 a month and if you don't, then we will constantly interrupt your charge so it takes longer to charge.

Or...

they'll ship your items half way across the country, it'll stop just short of the location and you'll get a pop up ad on your phone that says pay $5 to complete your shipping!
LOL reminds me of that video spoofing games making you farm until the end of time or use iAP for everything.

Yea why don't they just up the free amount and roll it into the tangible costs?

EDIT: I think another issue with subs also is nearly everything is subs now. One sub might be cool, but when they add up to $100+/month, it's insane. Apps galore want you to sub for the dumbest crap at unreasonable prices, and streaming services are popping up like mad. And whatever else is subs like Sirius, On-Star……...

Yea this is how it is for mostly anything mobile phone related. You make out way more with more people but the solos or couples think they are getting the shaft. Probably one of the big reasons people will take the chance with friends or even strangers just to get more people on their plan.

6.49 TRY equals 0.95 US. How is that bad?
LOL. Don’t make your calculation like that. One of my friend, who lives in USA, earn 4k USD per month and in Turkey i earn 4k TRY per month. So now let’s think about it. I pay 6,49 TRY for 50 GB and my friend pays 0,99 USD for 50 GB. Is it clear now? 🤣

Economy in Turkey is very bad. Actually since 2010. 😃

Did you know that in Turkey 1 USD is ~7 TRY? 🤣

Even better today. I pay $2.99 a month for 200GB, in Turkey ₺19.99 is $2.95 today!

It's all relative. The cost of living there is significantly cheaper. For example comparing St. Louis to Ankara, it's 59% cheaper to live in Turkey.

You win some you lose some.

This!

Plus I don’t think any company can price their devices or services based on the economy of every other country in the world. There’s a baseline for every region generally and companies just stick to it to some extent.

I'm the "Tech Support Guy" for about three dozen friends with iPhones & Macs and I get this question constantly. It sucks that the default settings will eventually get users trapped in a never-ending iCloud Storage upgrade cycle. And it sucks even more that Apple has resorted to frequent "nag-ware" pop-ups to harass users into buying more space, rather than explaining how to better control their usage of what they've got. Personally I have ~20 devices (Macs, iPhones, iPads, TVs, and even a PC) synced under my own Apple ID -- for years -- and I've never yet needed to buy more than the base 5GB storage. In fact I'm currently using 3.2GB (mostly iWork project files). The free 5GB should be more than enough for 90% of users and the fact that most users are always needing more is Apple's failure, and maybe Apple's greed.
