I bought the 12.9" iPad pro for use as a virtual white board when I'm teaching, and as a math notebook. I prefer the larger sized because my handwriting looks neater when I can write larger. If you're handwriting is better than mine (when writing small) or if you don't use the iPad for these purposes, this may not be a consideration for you. Certainly the 12.9" is a bit unwieldy, and 9.7" looks like it would be easier to carry around.

I, too, bought the 12.9 at full price, and no regrets. If I had waited unti prices came down, that would have been several months I didn't get to use and enjoy the iPP. For me, it's been worth every extra dollar to have it for those extra months.

I got a nice deal in the 12.9" iPad pro. But if I'd known how useful it would turn out to be, I would have bought it earlier at full price (and saved money not buying the laptop with active pen I did).

i'm excited to give 4gb a whirl, so awesome the ram on an iOS device is same amount as what was in my 2011 macbook air (that I replaced with 8gb on 12" rMB last year, but)

a9x is equivalent to a 2013 i5, which is better than Core M.

Not sure about read or write speeds on flash memory, but we've come a ways is the bottom line

You pointing this out is making me wish we could run iOS on old macs, like my 2010 MacBook Air, which is still about as powerful as an iPad Air 2, or slightly faster. Running OS X though it is incredibly slow.

can you guys report back upon receiving your best buy pro's and let me know what version they come with?

i'd be curious

Just ordered open box pencil from best buy too $85.99 :0

had a five dollar RZ coupon too

9.7 iPad is the best size for me personally, I did consider the 12.9 when I picked up my pro 9.7 but I just couldn't see myself using it, that and the extra cost wasn't justified for me.

...but this thread is about them being the same price.

and if you were lucky to get on the best buy deal, in fact 12.9 is cheaper than 9.7 pro-- never mind same price,

$449 vs $599, or an open box for $545

it won't be but a month or two before I suspect a $50 discount or so on the Pro 9.7 as a promo,

I'll totally chime into this discussion. I originally went for the larger pro for the pencil support. I used all sorts of styli/styluses for note-taking on my previous iPads while I was at college, and was super excited to use my larger pro as my personal computer and notebook. I studied computer science and now have a job as a software developer, so I can't give up my MacBook Pro (not that I would want to either, it's such a powerful tool).

My day-to-day use of the larger pro consisted of browsing, reading, Twitter, messaging friends, keeping up with email, managing my notes and notebooks (I recommend Microsoft OneNote, if you're curious), and other basic computing needs. I opted for the Wifi only model, the pencil, and a Smart Cover. While I loved the beautiful 12.9 inch screen of the pro for split-screen and video-watching, I found the device a bit too large and heavy for almost everything else I did on my iPad. The large amount of white-space when using the larger pro for reading really rubbed me the wrong way, and made the device uncomfortable unless I at least had an app pinned on the right in compact mode. Overall, I found the device too large for the kind of kick-back activities I enjoyed doing on my iPad. I found that I would still choose my laptop over my larger pro for most activities, as I found it more comfortable and useful.

When the smaller iPad came out, I instantly knew that I would prefer it over my larger iPad. I got the cellular model along with the Smart Keyboard, and this thing hasn't left my side since. I'm not trying to replace my laptop with an iPad, and I find that the smaller sized iPad is a better compromise between portability and utility than the larger pro, given that I will mostly always have a laptop with me. I was a little unsure and hesitant about the Smart Keyboard; I wondered if I would be worth the money, since I usually carry my MacBook with its awesome keyboard. I've found the keyboard to really enhance my usage, especially given that the it can be used as a cover, and as a stand too.

It's rare that I split the screen 50-50 between 2 apps, most of the time I'm using an app at a time, or I pin a chat in the compact mode. While I still use my laptop as my main productivity machine, I did find that I was able to use my smaller iPad as my personal computer. I enjoy using it for messaging, browsing, reading, doodling, taking notes way more than on my laptop. I also like the smaller size of the device, and how well it feel in the hands -- I think it's the perfect size for kicking back and reading, Apple really did a good job choosing this size from the beginning.

If you intend on only carrying around a single do-all-be-all device, I highly recommend the larger pro. If you're like me, and ditching your laptop is not an option, perhaps check out the smaller pro.

I didn't get the 12.9 in November because it seemed comically large. I do wish it was a bit smaller, but I'll happily take the compromise now that I have one. This is the proper size for a tablet. Maybe a tiny bit smaller screen and a smaller bezel, but basicsply spot on.

looks like the 32gb 12.9 wifi on best buy's site isn't even showing up anymore or saying "check stores"

maybe the deal is done

Yep. It came in generic packaging like you would get from Apple refurb. iPad looks like new and came with new Apple usb cable and 12W adapter.

Shipped with 9.2.1.
Thanks !

Not getting my hopes up for 9.1 but man oh man that would be crazy cool.

Good condition and screen and everything?

If 9.7 pro and 12.9 pro are the same price, which one do you buy and why?

so here's my dilemma. I currently have the 9.7 pro 128gb lte version but have recently found the 12.9 128gb lte pro for the same price as my 9.7. I'm leaning toward the 12.9 but don't know if the 9.7 upgrades outweigh the 12.9 power and size

so if the price point is the same, which do you go for?

I bought both with all intentions on keeping both... Big one to keep at home, small for travel, but I need the pencil to correct factory images for my company and felt the regular size screen to be too small for drawing... And the 12 started to feel like a preferred size for me, so I returned the smaller 9.7. That said, the keyboard did feel nice.
If this were 3 years ago when I was still head over heels in love with new tech I would keep both, but I just knew the smaller one would collect dust more than see use.
