I'd say that looks perfectly normal, not "small."

After seeing the other photo posted, I'm glad I've ordered a watch in both sizes. Space grey sport at 38mm in the first delivery wave (4/24-5/8) and silver sport at 42mm in second delivery wave (5/13-5/27).

I'm going to the Apple Store tomorrow with an appointment to try them on. I'll see which size I like better and cancel the other.

FYI - I'm a male, 6'2" tall. However, I have thin wrists (my wife calls them tiny); 55mm across and 155mm around.

I know people keep saying guys should go for the 42mm, but most of them also have wrists at least 60-65mm across. Don't forget those of us really with thin wrists.

Thanks Tyler :). I meant small in relation to my expectations. All the promo stuff had me expecting something a lot bigger.

See, I think that looks perfectly fine on you.

But if you prefer the 42 then that's perfectly fine as well.

Thanks BMox, I ordered the 38mm ;)

I was pretty unsure about which size to order right up to the end. I thought the watch looked too big on a lot of people in pictures, and to be honest I think the watch looks too big in the OP's pictures as well. However, almost everyone who has actually tried them on seems to say that the 38mm model was smaller than they expected, and when I looked at video reviews of the watch instead of still photos, the 42mm seemed fine on most people. Since I have wrists that are on the larger side anyway (190mm) I ended up ordering the 42mm version.

Trust me I have been to the Apple Store and that 38mm is very small. Any medium build guy is gonna regret the 38mm

What qualifies as medium build guy?

Drake seems to wear the 38mm pretty well

EDIT: Added more photos where the strap is actually tightened. The bands in store are the largest possible size to allow trying on and can overlap the screen.

38mm is sooooooo small. I have small wrists, and just tried the 42mm watch on here in Japan earlier tonight. See attached.

You should cancel your order and place a new one for the 42mm, shown below. Even though it looks "huge" in the photo, the other one looks puny in person.

Actually doesn't look that bad in my opinion. I'm 15 and my wrists are 165mm and I ordered the AW 42mm Sport Blue Band (24/4 - 8/5 delivery date btw)

Just one question, what's the size of your wrist?

I don't necessarily think you should cancel if you ordered the 38mm, but I went in to try both on to decide which size that I wanted (was leaning towards the 38mm) but after I saw the 38mm in the cabinet I didn't need to wait the 30 minutes for an appointment. It looks tiny, way smaller than I expected.

Seeing it also made me realise that as soon as my wife sees the 38mm she will want one, which is significant because she hasn't been keen for one after looking at any of the photos/videos. These watches look a lot different in real life.

On a side note, the scroll wheel feels nice.

It all depends on wrist size. Most men wear chunkier watches. I played with both watches in the Apple Store and believe me that 38mm face s small and fiddly to operate unless you have tiny fingers.

Believe me the photos prove nothing. You have to see the watch in person to appreciate the true dimensions

i have small fingers and small framed so 38mm works for me. :p
I totally forgot that pre-orders started today. Have to wait till june so lets see.

Seriously? Such a mistake for a guy to make - i mean, they look so different!

*sarcasm!

Honestly now I've tried them both on here I know my husband wont care much for the 42. It's just not him.

(neither strap was fitted properly here, and i was wearing the larger strap on the 42 (black)

Out of curiosity (for comparison), how big are your wrists?

170mm or 59mm width, the 42mm fitted me perfectly its smaller than I expected it to be. As soon as I saw the 38mm I laughed, it was tiny!

That's what the 42mm looks like on me and I'm a medium build guy, I was originally getting the 38mm but I'm glad I didn't!

You may say the 38mm is puny but that is clearly too big for your wrist. The strap hangs off the edge of your arm.....
I agree. I think that looks way too big. Too big for wearing during workouts, and too big to be discrete about it instead of screaming, "LOOK AT ME I HAVE AN APPLE WATCH!" :D

Just tried both sizes on at the Apple Store in London.
38mm is way to small for me.
42mm looks much better, on me!
(180mm wrist Diameter, 57mm wrist width)
