That's what it was. So simple, yet so frustrating.

Maybe that's why they leave the screws out, so you can take that plastic off! :p

lol....maybe...but glad you got it out.....

you guys should all read this

i have been following this thread closely. I like this forum, but pretty much only made an account so i could comment and post my experience of iresq, ifix direct and having my iphone 4 converted to white.

First a little background. I originally sent my iphone 4 to iresq to be converted to white. They did a good job and the parts were of very good quality. The look, feel and everything was pretty much the same as my black parts (except the color of course). However.. Some bad things that i noticed after having it a few days were: 1. prox sensor did not work initially. I notified them and had to ship it back, but they re-shipped the phone both ways, fixed it for free and sent it back no problem. 2. This was VERY IMPORTANT to me: there were two small gaps (one on each side) between the white front support frame and antennae that, in low light, i could see light from the screen leaking through the sides due to the parts not fitting completely flush. 3. There was another small gap where the glass did not completely touch the support frame on the front (LCD side) right of the phone (opposite side of the volume button/sound toggle).

These issues were small, but definitely noticeable. I honestly am not going to pay for basically another phone and have it not be perfect. I asked iresq to fix it and they were very friendly in telling me unfortunately the parts are not apple oem and ALL the conversions will have these minor defects. Their only resolution was to convert my phone back to black. Luckily their customer service was good and they were very cooperative and fair in giving me a refund.

With my refund I decided to try ifix direct because they offered the full conversion with white dock connector, headphone jack etc. I spoke with a guy who called himself Slav and he assured me they would check and re-check that all my parts worked and fit completely flush. Unfortunately in my next two correspondences with them, my concerns regarding the possiblity of the parts not fitting flush and light leaking through were evaded, though they responded regarding other shipping issues i had. At this point, i really have no idea what to expect. My fingers are crossed. I shipped my phone today and will follow up with pictures etc and a full review. I hope i can save someone some $$ or confirm someones hopes that this is a good thing to do/

I will say that most of the rumors about why Apple hasn't released a white iPhone yet are true. There's a bit of light leakage above the LCD but below the speaker and FaceTime camera. Also, like the guy said before, there's a little leakage out of the seams between the antenna and the the two glass panels.

These things are only visible in the dark when the brightness is up as high as it'll go. They don't bother me, but just so everyone is aware, I thought I'd let y'all know.

It's fun using the LED flash with a flash light app. It makes the whole back of the phone glow bright white :)

I havent noticed it being too bad... maybe some bad parts? mine seem to be flawless...

I got my parts today. they all look good, except for the head phone jack and dock connecter are more grey than white. i will be taking the plunge on friday of tearing my brand new iphone 4 apart.... wish me luck!

i know this is my first post on macrumors, but i figured i'd tell my story about my experience with ifixdirect. i went to the website yesterday and did the live chat with one of the technicians (sorry i dont remember his name) and asked about doing the conversion. he said they were out of stock and would resume taking orders on monday. i said fine, and went about looking for other places to get it done. everyone is out of stock.

so, today i did the live chat again, ask them if they can do the conversion again (just to see if i was lucky) and he said again "out of stock til monday". since i live in nyc, i asked if it were ok to just come by to see a working version or some parts. he said sure, but this batch of parts was acting funny and that is why they suspended orders. so i went out to their location, and michael (i guess the guy running the show) was really nice from the start, and his girlfriend even made me two cups of coffee while i was there. he showed me all of the parts he had left, including lots of defective fronts and backs, and let me choose which ones i wanted to go with. he then told me that no matter what happens, if i dont like it i can change it back or we can wait until the new shipment of parts comes in next week, and change it out then. he was lightning quick with the swap, changed out the headphone jack and dock adapter as well, and the front lcd was damaged and he was able to replace that one to one that worked. all in less than an hour while entertaining my every question. he ran me through all of the diagnostics to ensure that everything still worked as an oem phone should when he was finished, and when that was done i paid him on the spot via paypal $220.

i am completely satisfied with the service, and even now on the front lcd there is a tiny bit of glue that is visible up top, he said come back next week and we'll switch it out. these guys truly are great, they were crunched for time to get their shipments out and still managed to deal with me. all the best for ifixdirect and i hope you will give them your business as they have OUTSTANDING customer service. they even showed me some iresq parts and they were horrible. they had a phone from the netherlands or something that was done incorrectly by another company and they were able to fix that one too. all the while their online chat and phones are ringing nonstop. top notch operation.

I know most likely you are legit but it's extremely shady to post nothing but sweet nothings about a site that's been knocked a couple times on this thread on your first post. It screams to me scam or someone from the site is doing it.

Why was it 220? The price on the site is 179 dollars for the full white conversion. Also, does the owner of the site get his supply replenished once a week on Monday?

the "full" kit for 179 is front, back, and home button. the kit for 200 also includes dock connecter and headphone jack. their problems with customer service in the past couple of weeks is due to growing pains of the company, they are getting more orders than they can handle, also it is harder to get in touch with them now because they have people flooding them with emails and phone calls. but from what i hear they are looking to expand their operation and hire more people.

over all i would give their customer service an 8/10. allot of people that bash companys on forums have no idea how hard it is to run a buisness and the day to day operations....

hey thanks for vouching for me. it was absolutely my choice to settle for the display with glue exposed, but as i told you before i have this paranoia that soon there will be no more parts. since i'm so close to these guys i'll go back next week when they have more and if they have better stuff i'll go with it. but overall, i am thouroughly impressed with their expertise for such a new operation.

as far as pricing that 179 is without shipping and that is the DIY kit, without dock and headphone jack. so he added 40 bucks for the installation fee, the dock, and headphone jack. i think thats reasonable, and he told me that i can keep coming back until its right, in other words he guarantees customer satisfaction. there are probably a few suppliers over there in shanghai right now banging these things out, since demand is so high now, and the quality (imo) is going vary from batch to batch.

either way, just figured another story to vouch for these guys would be the least i could do for their hospitality and expertise. just sucks the parts were so variable.

they honestly need to tie down a better supplier......thats their problem they seem to be willing to do the " right " but in all honesty that jailbreak excuse they used was not right own up to it if you get a bad part .......they maybe dealing with the wrong people none the less if your happy then thats all the matters.... but i also see some peoples point we have had a slew of new people come in only to this thread to post their good exp. with them and i will admit it looks planted but who am i to say .......

some issues w ifix direct service

ok so i shipped my phone to ifix direct monday and paid an extra $50 to be sure it arrived by wednesday and, of course, it has not arrived. My usps tracking # indicates that the phone was in fact delivered to the guys at ifix direct on tues @ 11:54am. Unfortunately ifix clearly did not convert my phone and ship it out on the same day as promised or i would have it now. whats more strange is i received that same email that everything was delayed as someone mentioned above, however i was told in the chat that all the parts were in house and everything was on time. I have been sending emails and calling the guys at ifix since last night and no one has responded to me yet. This is very disconcerting as these strange people who arent even a company have my phone and appear to be lost to contact! if they didnt steal my phone, i will now not receive it until mon (thats 7 full days when it was supposed to be 3) due to holidays and wknds. So far, my experience with ifix direct has been a nightmare. Just a word of caution, ladies and gents. I will continue to update and hopefully will eventually be talking about their white iphone conversion.

Just an FYI, If he sends it out today Express you should see it Friday. If he sends it Friday, you should see Saturday. Express is overnight delivery, even on Saturday.

Just because he said he has parts in stock doesn't mean they work. Seems like a pretty high failure rate on these things and I don't know if there is any way to tell other then fully assembling a phone and starting it up.

pretty surprised about all this. too many people, either from his website or walk-ins are delaying everything. honestly i would advise people to just stay away from him for now until he gets more help and is on top of things. If you are in N.Y. it's much better of course, but outside not so much. otherwise he is great to deal with and takes care of you, it just seems hard for him right now. No excuses though.

+1. Give them some time to sort things out.
You don't want inferior parts, considering the price you are paying.

mine (from iresq) was def visible round the seams between the antenna and front support frame in only low light and w the brightness about midway up.. didnt have the issues around the lcd speaker or facetime camera..

I'd be cautious. I bought a white back from a very reputed retailer, it was marketed as authentic. it broke in my pocket because the glass was so weak in comparison to authentic glass. I went to Apple who said there aren't even any white authentic covers and the idea that they were selling off their ones which had a "slight design flaw" was rubbish. Nearly voided my warranty. (I am aware you are anyway voiding he warranty by changing the front, but at least be sure it is good quality.
