Innovation doesnt mean crap if there are major design faults. This isnt a glitch. This isnt a hiccup...

The fact that people are willing to justify this at the expense of "innovation" is just ridiculous.

Innovation is not just to be the first one to do something, but to be the one to do it RIGHT. Samsung folk can claim that Iris scan is the first facial recognition system, but you have to be a certain kind of fanboy not to realize just how much better/secure and innovative is Face ID compared to it, even if it took more years to actually release. But when it did, it actually worked as advertised. That is true innovation.
So then the numerous recalls Apple has had take away from their innovation, or are they magically immune from your definition?

The ‘notch and no home button’ does not make a defective product, that’s a preference that somebody chooses not to like. A defect like the Fold has is due to the way the phone was designed prevented it from being usable, those are two things are not mutually exclusive in your post.
To my knowledge, most iPhone releases the last several years have not had serious hardware defects - design decisions such as the "notch and no home button" you mention, as well as removal of the headphone jack are reasons I've not purchased iPhones since the 7. Hardware problems for Apple have been mostly with regard to Mac laptops - butterfly keyboard reliability, display problems such as the "stage light" flaw caused by a flimsy cable connector (necessitating an expensive display assembly replacement), and overheating/throttling with the i9 chips in high end MBP's.

curious to hear the spin Apple fans have for it.
Why would you be curious about that for? Seems like a silly waste of time to me. Giving fan bois attention brings the whole discussion down.

The more important thing is how Samsung now respond & fix their product.

I wonder why they rushed it! They have a fantastic line up, galaxy 10 is a hit (10e specs are much nicer than iPhone Xr), but their 'one more thing' half-baked foldable is getting all the press
Samsung is all about being first to the market no matter the costs.

No they are not. You see my issue here is more about the people who claim that Samsung is justified about anything crap they do, and the hypocrisy behind them.

You see Samsung folk will claim iphones are overpriced. Everyone got mental when the iphone X price was released. But hey, now that their beloved company charges a single phone feature, the folding mechanism, for a whopping extra 1,000$ (actually two iphone Xs lol) and they are celebrating its hypocrisy 101.

Ofcourse they will justify this by claiming just how innovative Samsung is. But now it seems this innovation is just bs and just doesnt work. But they still defend it for being innovative. This is ridiculous to me and pure hypocrisy.

If apple released the fold and had this price and those issues, can you imagine what all those hypocrites would go through? pure mental breakdown.

But no, its Samsung, somehow these guys are innovative because, like I said Iris scanner is just the same tech as Face ID...

The concept is cool. However I figured some sort of damage would take place over time with the constant folding. Also, it doesn't seem practical. 3 screens on a mobile device? If you need more screen real estate but on the go: buy a backpack and a decent tablet to pair with your mobile.

This thread if full of Samsung wants to be first quotes. Not sure why. Samsung wasn't the first to manufacture a foldable smartphone so getting the GFold out quickly didn't matter. Royole was with the FlexPai. First is not what they're looking to achieve. They are looking to be seen as more innovative than Apple. That's why they are willing to throw any new idea they conceive at their products. Their problem is a lot of the ideas aren't fully fleshed. Evidence: Galaxy Fold.

Counterpoint: AirPower.
Sorry, I disagree on both counts.

Just became some no name company came out with a flexible something a tad before them is meaningless. They couldn’t have anticipated that would happen, and the reality is that they have been gunning for 6-8 years to be first. And of course besting Apple is part of that. That’s self evident.

Your comment about AirPower is actually the opposite of the truth, 180° from reality. AirPower is actually a perfect example of Apple’s discipline. They’d rather cancel a project and suffer public criticism then sell a product that didn’t meet their high standards.

Trolling?
Please this place is riddled with people exemplifying apple’s failures.
What’s one of the latest one? $1000 tablet bent out of the box? Of course I looked at mine.

I don’t think I ever considered a Samsung device, although my new job will require it.

How much does Samsung pay you to post garbage like this?

Actually they’ve pretty much nailed the durability under bending and bending only. They used a machine to test that and found the display and hinge can take the stress of folding just fine for a certain threshold number (don’t recall it off the top of my head) that most customers aren’t likely to cross. And if they do cross that threshold, no worries, they will get a replacement. The warranty on this device is not the standard restrictive warranty we are used to seeing.

What Samsung either failed to do, or did but scared testers out of giving honest feedback, was test the Folds in real life conditions long enough to get an accurate picture of additional potential failure and stress points apart from the simple stress of folding the display. So they missed how debris ingress could destroy the display quickly.

As much as I was rooting for this device to succeed, I won’t be an apologist for it. I am appalled at how cheap and flimsy and last-minute the display protector that reviewers accidentally removed appears to be. It looks like a joke. The fact it is so easily removed or becomes delaminated from the display is shockingly poor design.

At any rate, I’m not here to be an apologist but I just wanted to refine that point about the display a bit further. Lol, so, if they can manage to pocket-lint proof it, it should last long enough for people to use it normally. But it will still likely require some warranty service, which Samsung has anticipated and is willing to offer.

I have seen few displays who took damage / were failing, after few weeks with reviewers. So I think your comment about "real life condition" is spot on, as i believe that people would like to use a 2000 $ device for more than a month before the screen starts to fail..

I guess we can agree to disagree. 6-8 years of development is the antithesis of gunning to be first. AirPower isn't an example of discipline at all. It's an example of reach exceeding grasp. Apple wanted to be the first to introduce a new feature to Qi charging. Place anywhere. It didn't make it to market... and neither did the Fold. Again, our opinion differ. No big deal.

The device was not ready, but it was pre-announced when it shouldn't be. Just like the air power. What's the remarkable news here ?

Everyone can be the first one to release ****** products that break in a day or two. Some people here really give Samsung a much lower standard. If the same standard is applied to Apple by someone, they have screamed "fanboyz".

Nobody should release unfinished products and use paying customers as beta testers, including Apple. No double standard please.
Au Contrair... Guy Kawasaki famously said "Be Happy Ship Crappy". If you let an engineering department decide when a product is "done" the product will never ship.

I thought we were over specs as they are generally meaningless. Performance, usability and reliability are all that really matter. I don't care if the Samsung has more RAM or a faster processor. They run different software and have other hardware components that are different making any comparison effectively worthless.

So I guess that means the butterfly keyboard and antennagate issues are acceptable then as these were also new designs?

Umm, no.
Who says all of these are acceptable? The point is to design something that would work, however, testing should be done prior to implementing for sale. I agree that we should not experience these issues and no ones want to deal with it as it is a major inconvenience. If companies are criticizing for trying something new or make improvements, there would be no advancements and creativity would be stymied.

There comes to a point where you can only make a screen so big without entering the size of a mini iPad. I find it easier on the eyes when looking at a larger screen than a smaller one. If the folding screen issue is solved without the huge cost, then this may be the option I would choose.
