got both iLife and iWork 09s at BestBuy, ordered this afternoon and picked up this evening. One problem, they pulled single version packages even though I ordered Family packs for both. Fortunately they still had at least one Family version of iLife.

Surprised they weren't more careful with this, I would have been quite unhappy to have found this out at home instead of at the store. As so often happens at BB, I need to tell them about Apple's products.

The installer is still showing more than an hour to finish the install on the first machine, the second is backing up its clone, third machine sits there just waiting.

Joel.

PS How long till I'm not a newbie anymore? ::grin::

I migrated to Apple almost 2 years ago and haven't looked back. My question is this; With the new OS looming on the horizon, will it include the new iLife, iWorks etc? Asking because I'd like to get the new iLife in particular, just wondering if money best spent by waiting on new OS. Thanks in advance.:)

You'll still be able to use iLife '09 if you upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard. And since snow leopard is supposedly coming out first quarter this year, you'll still have the newest version of iPhoto, iMovie, etc., i'd imagine. I upgraded from 10.4 Tiger to 10.5 Leopard and still use iLife '06 because it runs on Mac OS X and i owned it from my previous iBook. However, I'll be going to the Apple Store Keystone to get a new macbook in 4 days! :D I'm getting very excited! :D:D:D:D And since iLife '09 is "all part of every new mac," I will be skipping iLife '08 and jumping right to iLife 09'. Long story shot: go for it! :)

p.s. I wonder if they'll give me the box or if it'll come pre-installed...

Faces Pain in the butt

There is one feature of Faces that is bugging me. When you go to confirm the face in each picture you have to manually click or double click each one to confirm it. Imagine you have 200 photos that need to be confirmed. Basically you can't select all. It would be easier to be able to select a few pictures at a time and just hit the Y key or the N key. Clicking and double clicking is a pain in the you know what. Of course thats with existing photos as you download more on to your computer it should detect the faces pretty easily and then you wont have that many to click on. my 2 cents.:D

You can't drag a box over the faces it's asking you to confirm? Phil did a group confirm in his demo by dragging a box around 6 or 7 photos and clicking.

At your current rate of posting, a little over 21 years. ;)

Shoot, I'd better get after it!!! Oh wait, is that 21 years left, or 14 (21 years minus the 7 I've been a member)?

Here's to the Mac, and MacRumors, still being here when I graduate from newbie.

PS I played a little on iPhoto on my non-photo computer, it didn't take long for it to look at 55 photos, but it scares me how long it's going to take for 17,000.

It was fun to see how it looks at faces, recognized photos of my 3 year old based on photos of him at around 4 months. It works best to have straight on photos, angles don't do so well.

Garage Band

First Look and we have Artist Lessons that include

Fall Out Boy: I Don't Care
John Fogerty: Proud Mary
Norah Jones: Thinking About You
Ryan Tedder: Apologize

My guess is that these artists and many more will be getting richer...,
Looks like you can make your own ringtone for your iPhone via GarageBand

Faces taking long to get started

So I just installed ILIFE and the FACES part of the application is going through all my pictures and scanning the faces on the initial start up. I can't find a way to get around it. ughh....I guess I have to wait until it's done scanning every face in every picture before I can even use the FACES features.

Places is awesome. I can enter my home address where it says ENTER NEW PLACE and it'll track by address and not just by city so it can be even more specific. AWESOME!!! I love it so far.....just waiting for FACES to finish booting up.

iPhone ringtone creation in GarageBand was a feature in the last version (Export Ringtone to iTunes) but they've made more of a fuss in this new one.

Are the lessons a part of the iTunes store? Can you use iTunes credit to purchase them?

Nope looks like the functionality to purchase lessons is only through GarageBand

When you are confirming faces you can simply drag and highlight to confirm that block.

Hold down the Option key and confirm changes to Reject. This also works nicely when doing them individually as you don't have to double click to reject....just hold Option and click to reject.

Actually, it all started out with Baud rates many years ago. This evolved into the more commonly known bits per second.

And in the early days, files were in measured in bytes and kilobytes. :)

As for advertised speeds, you might find this link interesting. All speeds are in bits per second.
Exactly my point which is why I think it's time the ISPs move into the 21st century with the rest of us and stop lying. It's equatable to the oil companies using 9/10¢ to make people think they're spending a little less. 9/10?? move into the 19TH century for goodness sake! People want to get RID of the penny and they're still counting change in tenths of one.

Bytes... megabytes... The point is that they're bytes not bits.
I find it odd that the grand ol' US of A, the king of the world, the leader of 'em all, is not even in the top 10 for Internet speeds. I think it's time for an overhaul! Viva la Internet Revolution! ;)

You guys are lucky. I have to wait to the 30th to get my upgrade from Apple to be shipped, and wait to February 2nd/3rd for it to arrive =( =)

So... if I were to order a new Mac this very moment via Apple's Online store... would iLife '09 be preinstalled?

More than likely not, since the machine would have been manufactured before iLife '09 went gold. It may have an upgrade disk included in the box so you don't have to request the upgrade for $10, but again, probably not.

If he orders now, at the very least it will have an iLife 09 DVD in the box.

Fast

I ordered iLife 1 hour ago and it's already "Prepared for Shipment". Quick. :D

It should arrive by tomorrow

Just picked up a copy from an Apple store here in London.

I'm pretty sick at the moment, so hopefully this will take my mind off my upset stomach!

opo101, did you get it at the Regent Street store? I saw in another post that they weren't in there, yet. I will head down there now if they are in. Sorry you are not well!

My status changed to "Prepared for Shipment" in the time it took me to go to the gas station and back, around 30min.
