annoyingly I want a new mac mini when they come out, so it'll have ilife'09, but I won't use it on the mini, I want it on my MBP. I'd prefer not to buy it.

Is there a way for me to use a pack-in version (eg with a newly bought computer), on a different computer? I wouldn't use it on both at the same time, the mini would be for HTPC duties only.

Not to my knowledge. I don't think that you can.

I've been trying to qualify my system for 10 days and it always says me : "Sorry, we can't find the serial number you provided. Please recheck your serial number and enter it again."

Mine says shipped here in the UK as well

Shipped 24th Jan, expected 27th, got a tracking number to via UPS
:D

That's an interesting one:

- Get a new Mac with iLife 09 pre-installed.
- Don't use iLife, and therefore don't install it (or remove it) on the new Mac
-> Are you allowed to use that copy of iLife on another Mac?

The usual restore discs of the new Mac will prevent you from doing so easily. However, if you know how to show hidden files and directories, you will find the seperate iLife installer... ;)

OTOH, many newly sold Macs, but which have been in stock already before the release of iLife will probably get a drop-in DVD. This is an exact copy of the Retail DVD of iLife, except for that text: Drop-in DVD.

So, I'm not sure.

Migration assistant

Not to my knowledge. I don't think that you can.

You could use the migration assistant to migrate the applications folder from one computer to the other. You could also network the two computers and drag and drop them from one to the other too.

Also, you actually might be able to install just the applications for the install DVD.

Went to Columbus apple store today. No iLife 09 for sale. Now just have to take my $80 and waste it on drugs and loose women.

Besides"faces" and "places", any other big reason to upgrade to iLife 09?

The common delivery date seems to be the 27th, which just so happens to be an oh so famous Tuesday. Makes sense. I think it's probable that's when retail stores will start selling too.

File it under another reason it is not great being a Yankee. : )

Although I still haven't purchased it, some of the new features look good (especially the ability to personalize letters). I'm glad it is shipping. I might pick it up in the coming weeks.

Now's the time the cue the new Mini!

Actually the time to cue the new Mini was April of last year. Now's the time the cue what should have been the second Mini update since the last one!

Sure you can; they're just apps. iLife '08 apps from my Intel Mac Mini run without flaw on my Power Mac G5. Not that I need to, since I bought the retail iLife '08 last year, but if I ever lost the disc and had to reinstall or something, at least that would be an option.

Heh, I was going to post something like that. ;) However, if you simply black out your personal info instead of trying to blur it or other such reversible effects, that's fine too. (Not to mention easier and faster.)

does anybody know if ilife is available in apple stores? well, im specifically looking for the Box Set or whatever the bundle of ilife, iwork and OS X is called.

That is the best deal. You get a lot for very little. OS X costs $120, iLife costs $80, and iWork costs $80...totaling $280...you can get all three for $160...amazing deal!

Wouldn't there be library files that you would have to port, though?

I tried, but I wasn't able to locate the master .dpkg for iLife 08 and all the other .pkgs refused to install by themselves.

Personally I was waiting for FTP support in iWeb since it came out and now it's finally there.
It's also true that I never purchased iLife before (I always used the one bundled in my Mac) so my judgement may be affected by this.
