So if you have to block out info in an image online what is the best way to do it? Just completely color over it with black or something???

I will be ordering my new MacBook Pro this Friday :) I'm glad I held out since I will get iLife '09 for free now and the discount on iWork '09 :D

You could demonstrate whether or not you're B.S.ing by stating where the "Shipped to" location is. That's not particularly detailed - it's just a city.

personally, iphoto faces.

Personally, Learn to Play. As I said earlier in this thread, this has sparked re-interest in me trying to learn guitar.

I have Aperture, but the Slideshow themes in iPhoto, with easy export to iTunes, will be nice as I make photo slideshows often. I really hope they add Faces and Places to Aperture in the near future as they would both be very useful to me. Don't mind going to iPhoto to make my slideshows but I don't want to move my library to iPhoto to get Faces and Places.

Wouldn't there be library files that you would have to port, though?

iDVD and iPhoto have themes that you'd copy over, as well as GarageBand's loops and instruments, but that's just data (nothing computer-specific) and would take a second or two.

annoyingly I want a new mac mini when they come out, so it'll have ilife'09, but I won't use it on the mini, I want it on my MBP. I'd prefer not to buy it.

Is there a way for me to use a pack-in version (eg with a newly bought computer), on a different computer? I wouldn't use it on both at the same time, the mini would be for HTPC duties only.

Easy. Simply connect em both to Ethernet/AirPort, locate the apps on the Mini, drag and drop them over to say the MBP's Desktop, on the MBP drag them into Applications. Wallah. It worked for me with iLife 08. I had it on my iMac but I also wanted it on my MB (it came with 06) so I dragged and dropped em over! Easy!!

Except that violates the license of iLife. The version of iLife that comes with your computer is only for that computer. The installers are only bundled on the restore CD that is system specific. Its not intended to be installed separately.

Your only legal option is to obtain a legal license for that separate computer

ETA: I actually once tried that, and it's not gonna work - it didn't work for me.

It would be good if they just offered an option to purchase a download.

That would be the most environmentally friendly way to distribute the software. I'm not sure why they don't. Maybe piracy concerns.

iLife 09 seems to be a worthwhile update. Most companies offer a discount from the previous version but this is where Apple differs as well. They feel $79 is a discount.

Maybe if they finally offer a downloadable purchase then we can only hope that will be discounted for the lack of physical media. Here's to hoping. :)

I called the Apple Store in Sacramento, and they don't have ILife yet, so I ordered it online. Too much hassle to drive down town during the week. I'm hoping that I'll have it by Friday. Wishful thinking?

So do you guys think the speculation about waiting for iLife to ship on the updated mini's/iMacs is still possible? I guess not... :(

I wasn't sure how to word that.. but hopefully somebody will understand...

Releasing software as a download doesn't make piracy any easier, it just makes it faster.

I think the big reason is that content wise, it has to be be several gigs in size or just the DMG - the distribution is done on a DVD here. Internet downloads are just not fast enough nor reliable enough to allow for a download of that nature. Its not comparable to iWork which is about a 600 mb download and well within reason. A 4.6 gig download just will not compare without introducing easy piracy via bit torrent (which I see is the only viable way). We also have to factor in ISP's who won't be happy.

Simply shipping the DVD's is just more efficient and probably much quicker than just downloading it.

EDIT: The only products that Apple does distribute via download are:
iWork - about 600 mb
Quicktime/iTunes: about 50 mb.
Aperture via trial: 1-200 mb.

The highest thing that Apple has for downloads are it's movies and they are capped out to a couple of Gigs.

Releasing software as a download doesn't make piracy any easier, it just makes it faster.

And Apple knows that... Apple is very aware of how easy it is to pirate their software - you can confirm that by looking at torrent sites and finding multiple links for iWork and so on. Everything else is serial stuff and thats nothing.

I sure apologize for having wrong information, it is the Sacramento store that my friend works at. I am going to try and see WHEN this will actually be in stores.

I got iLife 06 with my MacBook in early 2007. I got iWork 08 for christmas 2007. iSkipped iLife 08 - I didn't think there was much reason for me to upgrade, even though I love the events idea. iWill be purchasing iLife 09. It's definitely what I've been waiting for.
I've got to be honest... I was expecting it to be "iLife X", seeing as it was released in 2009. AND they skipped 07. Well I hope they have enough new features planned for iLife X because I think the name sounds cool .

WTF. Mine is left unchanged.

does anybody know if ilife is available in apple stores? well, im specifically looking for the Box Set or whatever the bundle of ilife, iwork and OS X is called.

probably not yet. my guess is that it shipped out to the stores the same time it started going out to customers. so by this weekend it should be showing up in stores.

Dang, this whole time I thought iLife '08 was included in Leopard (I switched right when Leopard came out so I have only ever owned new Macs)

it's too different packages. so presumably all new stock that is shipping out this week will have '09 preinstalled instead of '08 if this week is really the release week.

so if you buy a computer 'now' you'll have '09 and then you buy snow leopard when it releases. or you wait and buy the computer when both are out.
