Ugh, today was the day I was going to order a MBP. Now that I have seen this I can't update until iLife 11 and iWork 11 come out.

Darn.

Yes. I have no idea what network it uses (.me email??), whether it talks to other networks and what it even looks like. No one uses it as far as I know.
Most iChat people I've encountered use the screen sharing capability to collaborate on something. It's sort of like WebEx but with no cost involved.

Usual is post-announcement purchases qualify for "uptodate" program, which is typically $10 for a DVD of the program(s). More recent experience has shown that people who purchase before that date but gripe convincingly to a CS rep will also receive a free/low-price upgrade disk.

Good to hear. Hopefully, it comes out soon so that I can gripe and get my disk!

I never really understood why there wasn't a WYSIWYG iPhone app creator. It would save me months of having to learn Objective C.

While an iOS application builder would be interesting it would flood a niche market and may possibly take away the ability for app developers to make money. This may negatively impact the system as every Joe and Jane would be throwing out apps.

Mystery app? My money is on a simple app creator for iphone/pad/pod touch.

As if there's not enough crap on the App Store now ;)

It would also mean (I assume) creating a developer account and paying to submit apps to the store. I'm not sure the demand's there.

Well I talked to a CS rep at Apple saying that I was going to order a MBP but saw rumors that iLife and iWork were on the way. I got the expected "We can't speculate on that." and then I pressed on saying I knew she couldn't confirm anything, asking if I would just be out of luck if this were to happen. Again, the expected "I can't talk until it is officially announced."

Meh, it was worth a shot to at least see. I'm definitely pissed, because I have beenwanting to order on for a while and I finally can, only to find this. I don't want to have to pay anything extra for some features coming out for free in two weeks, but I really wanted to get my MacBook this week so I could learn the ins and outs of it before college in three weeks and so that I could Play SC2 this week.

I'm not really good at bartering, so I don't know how I would fare at complaining to CS for a free/cheap copy of iWork and iLife 11.

I wonder when Apple is going to get QT together properly and then release Final Cut Express 5.

Mystery App

For me, the killer app would be financial! I would love for an apple authored financial software to complete the iLife package. None of the financial apps out there now quite fit the bill for me.

That's brilliant. Quicken for Mac and the latest Quicken Essentiala lacks a lot of features that their Windows counterpart offers. This would make the most cents ;).

That would be a better fit for iWork. iLife is about creativity.

NOOO iDVD can't go lol, I love iDVD use it all the time to make slideshows for Media at college and clients and its just easily burn it onto disk tis great

Gee, I guess Aperture is not needed since there already is Lightroom. Nor is Apple needed since Microsoft already exists! That's your logic; silly huh?

Aesthetically and functionally. Better usability, customizable editing tools, I dunno, stuff like that. Just look at Aperture; it makes a good replacement for Lightroom in many ways.

But Photoshop already is the pinnacle, how could Apple improve on it? Really now, I don't want the Apple fanboy rhetoric. Photoshop is already customisable. It (as if this is some kind of feature) looks good, it's very usable, powerful, good with resources.

Lightroom was far from perfect when Aperture was launched. There was a hole in the market. There isn't for Photoshop.

Look at the other applications Apple made to compete - Pages and Numbers. Neither of which are better than MS Office's versions (on PC at least, haven't used the Mac versions).
