It would be nice if Apple would allow for those dropping several thousand dollars on a new iMac to get iLife for free when it ships in August. I hate the thought of waiting another month to get my iMac...but also want the latest iLife. Ugh...

Just ordered a quad core i5 27" iMac...no mention of any type of free upgrade option like Microsoft is giving for Office for Mac. A bummer really.

I was pleased to see that I will be able to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 this fall when it is released....for free! Apple should do the same thing for iLife '11.

See, the big difference is, Apple hasn't announced iLife '11. When they do, they will offer free upgrades (or rather, pay $9.95 shipping and handling) for purchasers of machines that come with iLife '09 from that date forward.

Just like Microsoft only offered it's deal for purchasers of Office 2008 to get a free upgrade from that date forward (the date they announced its official release).

I think it's likely they will decide not to screw over everyone who was waiting for desktop macs, and allow those who bought a mac since that date (7/27) the 9.99 upgrade. Every other time Apple has done the up-to-date program, this wasn't necessary because they released iLife along with the new Macs. Which brings the question, if we are going to see iLife '10 so soon, why didn't they just announce the computers and software on the same date?

My theory: iLife '10 will have iOS versions of iPhoto (photos has no editing features) and garageband, which they will want to show off on the new iPod touch.

One would have thought that they would have pulled iLife from the Apple online store if a new version is to be announced on Tuesday, I wouldn't be best pleased if I ordered a version that was outdated before I received it.

They would let you exchange it.

iLife '11 is releasing January 2011!

I say January 2011. The mystery app is iTunes LP & iTunes Extras Creator! I'm also saying that iWork '11 will have iBooks Creator for eBooks and more! :D

I don't. We haven't heard any recent rumors. usually we would hear more noise a day or so before it is announced.

I definitely didn't know the mac mini refresh was coming out the day it did, we heard rumors of newer models then you log on to order an iPhone 4 and it's like, oh nice.... new Mac mini.

:( it's not happening is it?

Nope, new software release usually happen around noon-2pm EST. It looks like we won't see the new iLife/iWork this month, which is strange as August is usually iLife/iWork month.

Apple is going to lose a lot of back to school sales if they don't get iWork '11 ready soon as Office 2011 is going to be released in Oct.

I was really hoping for this as well. Honestly I even made a event in iCal. Typing that really brings home that I've become seriously geeky!
