I hope there is an iDVD replacement. I don't post many things on youtube et al, I still like to watch movies on my TV. I use it a lot!

Look for a slightly more limited iDVD to included in iMovie. There will probably be an export option within iMovie that launches a window with some very basic options as far as customization. I don't think they will completely cut off DVD burning in iLife '11, just consolidate it into iMovie and make it more of a secondary export option. MobileMe (Updated) and YouTube will be the primary export options.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

If iDVD goes what is there to replace that feature? (maybe this mystery app?)

iBlu ray

Bento would make a nice addition to iLife.

And FaceTime will NOT be part of iLife. No way Apple will make people pay for something they want to become an open standard. If they add FT to the Mac, it will be as a feature update to iChat.

Guessing iDVD functionally is getting moved in to iMove. I nerver really understood why it needed to be its own app.

Not to mention what would be the point of having 2 video chat programs anyhow ?

Why would they remove functionality ? Either it's completely dropped or iDVD is fully integrated into iMovie. Otherwise, what a rip off it would be.

DVD & BluRay be gone

Replacing iDVD with iBluRay? :p

iBluRay will never happen. Steve is obviously planning on BluRay going the way of BetaMax, and I'm sure it will. I love watching BluRay videos, but I know their days are numbered. Serving from the cloud (Apple's cloud that is) is his vision of the future.

Agreed, guessing facetime will became part of the OS in next release of OS X...

Surely it'll be FaceTime.

My first thought was, good call, but actually this gets away from the rest of the iLife software, which is all creative in some way. I really like iDVD, and wonder if the new application combines this functionality with something else. Or iDVD is added to iMovie, which would make more sense.

Wasn't MacPaint's source code donated a few weeks ago? Sounds like a good lead in to talking about iPaint. And iPaint would also look mighty fine on the iPad next to the probably soon to be announced iMovie for iPad.

I was thinking the same thing. They could consolidate iDVD into iMovie and add facetime support in iChat. Bam.

Mystery app? My money is on a simple app creator for iphone/pad/pod touch.

Thank you very much but I'll stick to Pro apps! :D

Final Cut Pro > iMovie
Soundtrack Pro > Garageband
Aperture > iPhoto
DVD Studio Pro > iDVD
Coda > iWeb

.

well each of those is more expensive than iLife. So what's your point? That you want to spend more money and get better quality software?

I think we are years away from download only movies. Just this last week I've had nothing but issues with my internet. I couldn't watch anything from Netflix.

I wonder what they'll do with iWeb. The application is so weak at present, if anyone could create a great WYSIWYG editor, it's Apple.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm excited for mobileme gallery beta. All of these updates to Mobile Me are finally making my membership worth while!

I'd say new iMacs, Mac Pro and iLife 11 being released on August 10th is more likely.

On one hand that makes sense...why release product before new software...but then with inventories already running low on the iMacs, it is hard to think that they would wait two more weeks before inventory is refreshed.

If inventory is running low on the iMacs...then either tomorrow or next Tuesday seems to be the most likely refresh date. If they were to release the Mac Pro on August 10th...then having the software update fall between would work...just allow folks that just bought a new iMac to upgrade their iLife online for free.

As to the mystery application...iFacetime seems to be the best bet.

That would require you being able to hook up a video camera to an iPad though or for the iPad to get a camera. Otherwise, kinda of a waste to have iMovie on iPad...

It's funny, because I doubt the guy is a musician/movie editor/photographer/other type of professional that requires pro grade software in all those categories. Sounds more like someone trying to inflate his e-peen.

If he is, that is one heck of an hectic career he's got, must not have a lot of free time.

Years away you say ?

Blu-ray is here to stay for quite a long time I'd say. Rogers is one of the biggest ISPs in Canada and they don't seem to fancy streaming and downloads much.
