I think we just reach a point where many people realize they don't need to upgrade and simply can't justify buying a new $1500 device every year or two simply to do basically the same thing with almost the same performance.

I ordered a 13 pro max just because I have my XS max since 3 years and normally at this point I'd upgrade without any hesitation, but since I pre-order it and have my delivery estimated at around october 5-13, I have time to think about it and when I use my current XS Max, I simply can't really justify a new phone so there's a high chance I'll cancel my order or just try it for fun and return it.

I just think this year mark the rupture point of buying new phone often and expect huge updates constantly. We now are on the same evolution of other tech like computers where people stick with them for many years without asking if they should upgrade every year or two.

It’s “exhausting” to see negativity? Why? Were you part of the team that made the phone? That’s the only time I can see negativity about this product hurting someone. You aren’t even an employee of the company, you aren’t a part of Apple in any way, but negativity about iPhone 13 bothers you? Who are you? A close friend of an Apple executive? A stock investor? I don’t get it.

I like a lot of products and I’m sure some of them get complaints. I don’t really know, I’m too busy using them

I think I’d be more bothered if people were saying bad things about my child or my family, you know?
Woah woah woah there, let’s crank the hyperbole down a few notches. 😂 You’re going too extreme for this discussion.

This isn’t a philosophical dilemma here. We’re just talking about cell phones here, Aristotle. No one here is actually emotionally hurting about Apple… c’mon now LOL.

We’re just talking about iPhones and how really cool and good the new ones are, in the sea of ‘OmG nO rEvErSe WiReLeSs cHaRgInG?? tHe iPhOnE 13 iS tRaSh’.

I don’t know why you took this weirdo stance that I prefer my family being insulted over some rando saying the iPhone sucks? Lmao.

It’s basically the 12 S. Which means it’s a solidly refined version of what was done last year. That’s not good enough for some people and they make a lot of money trying to convince you it’s not good enough for you, every year. Apple moves at a slow pace. It’s been this way for years. I’m not always thrilled about that myself, but it is what it is. If we listened to all of these videos, we’d all be carrying around iPhone 6’s and X’s because I see lots of people keep insisting Apple has done nothing noteworthy since introducing those models.
The one thing that gets more annoying every year is still no Touch ID even though they have been saying it for years.

Still no USB-C, that says a lot of it.

Sure its better than 'competition' but so was the iPhone 12. There's no reason to upgrade.

The new iPad Mini is what really stole the show and the only one worth buying.
I think there’s a lot of paranoia in tech forums about USB-C. Which conector is used is probably in 200th place in the list of priorities when buying a phone. How many people are not going to buy an iPhone just because it doesn’t have lightning? 0.01%? However, I could see a much bigger (but still very low) percentage of people hesitant to upgrade because their accessories won’t work. But anyway, the connector is very irrelevant and says nothing about how “pro” a phone is.

GOT blue.

Anybody noticing the fake hate of the iPhone 13 Pro Max on youtube/tech sites? The depressing narrative gets clicks.. like if it ain’t folding, it’s no longer an option? Boring? Apple is out here polishing the crap out of these phones. Millions of people want a high-end candybar slab phone and this fits the bill. Like when you hold an iPhone it feels like a piece of jewelry with a fluid OS. I love it. Lmao millions of people are going to buy this thing. This year 13 line this year is amazing:

The 13 Pro Max is a freaking BEAST. 6.7” APPLE OLED 120hz Pro Motion display (paired with the already buttery smooth iOS), near 3 hours EXTRA battery (or maybe more) even though this is Apple’s first time using 120hz? And with 5G antennas? Brighter screen? Even better cameras? Same price as before? More powerful SOC? 128 base storage now? This is an awesome package.

Not to mention the new camera system which will most likely produce amazing results. Smart HDR 4 too… which no one mentioned either. When the XS dropped with Smart HDR, it vastly improved the image quality, I can’t wait to see what Smart HDR 4 does!

And that Sierra Blur color! It looks amazing to me, it’s like a glacier or icicle colored iPhone. I’ll always love the Pacific Blue but this thing looks awesome in this shade of blue.

I can’t wait!! Anybody else excited about it? Techie people online have become incredibly jaded these days that I think they’re in the minority.
Yep I've noticed as well. Obviously it's not gonna be a huge upgrade from the 12 but what do you expect apple to do? Not release any new models while other companies do? Insanity. They're a business and they need to release new products. Many people don't upgrade their phone every year. I plan to upgrade to a 13 from a 7 and I already know it's gonna be an amazing upgrade. Couldn't really be happier about it.

Edit: also how exactly do they want apple to make the 13 better? One of the best smartphone cameras, best for videography, fastest SoC, now with 120Hz. How exactly do you improve on this? They even made the notch smaller. If anything the notch has become iconic which is probably alright by them.

I’d cut them some slack. The 13 (if comparing with the 12) is a dull upgrade with not much more to talk about. I know we all like to get caught up in the excitement every year (I was one of these people) but we have to call a spade a spade here.
Of course in the real world not everyone upgrades every year, so for the vast majority of people this is a significant upgrade.

I think there is legitimate criticism that usb 2 transfer speeds is ridiculous when the main selling point of your “pro” phone is being able to record tons of pro-res footage (Apple is even selling a 1 tb model now), but then you have problems getting them off your phone in a timely manner. It really should have thunderbolt, even if it’s just limited to the 512 or 1 tb versions.

The biggest problem with tech reviewers IMO is that they rarely “keep” a phone. They keep a phone for as long as they need to before being given another one to review. This is fine until you actually buy a phone that they recommend, which after 6 months you discover it’s a slow piece of bloated crap with features that are relatively gimmicky.

I’ve owned plenty of Andoids. They would be the best phone until they’re not. After I started buying iPhones, I’d keep them for 3 or 4 years and never get sick of them. That says something about their quality. I’ll be getting the iPhone 13 Pro Max this year because this phone is what the iPhone 12 should have been last year!

Umm...it’s a forum to discuss Apple products and you do this? Wow, is all I can think. My recommendation is for you to pump the brakes on the holier than thou stance. Posts like yours are what’s exhausting. Personally, as a 12 pro max user, I’m stoked to upgrade, but uh oh…I better not express it or the Vir-meister will blast me for not being a good enough father because I’m excited about the 13 pro max!

Lol! I've just posted about the agenda of reviewers, saying pretty much the same thing - I hadn't seen your post beforehand. I completely agree. They're more bothered about the lack of a USB-C socket than the real improvements to other, far more important things.

No, a high-end phone is a major purchase for most people - right up there if you list the things you buy in order of price. You make a choice after reading lots and adding in your own experience and then someone people listen to rains on your parade and finds fault with what you have bought. Reviewers have their own agenda (as do we all, of course) but their agenda is very different to that of an ordinary phone buyer and they concern themselves with things most of us don't care about and gloss over those we do.

A lot of good answers, and I hope Apple is listening to them. The iPhone 13 is a fantastic product, and works for both amateurs and tech sophisticates. Most importantly, the iPhone 13 works, is robust, and has precisely the features, speed, ease of use, and reliability that we want.

People do not want janky-ass "bells and whistles" tech which adds minimal value yet causes network drops, app crashes, and hard reboots. Read these answers Apple -- the vast, vast majority of your consumers don't give a goddamn about a few negative utubers criticizing the iPhone 13 because it doesn't have a flux capacitor.
