2.5" form SSD drives in iMacs and accessibility to Hard drive will be great! (like RAM, if they can put 2.5" form SSDs and ability to upgrade would be nice)

and AMD Athlon Quad Cores in 21.5" models... Apple can save almost $50 on the CPUs, thermal envelope will be a constraint

and Core i5 Quads on the high end models.

SSDs
AMD Athlon in 21.5" Model - Starting may be $1099
better GPU

I've been waiting a long time.

Eidorian, What is new on the AMD CPU side?

i wish they include AMD CPUs in iMac (good laptop cpus from AMD still far fetched)

Can someone who has and knows the details of the new MBA comment on the screen? Some folks claim it has some antiglare feature, perhaps a 1/4-wave coating, while the specs just say "glossy" - as if "glossy" is a positive feature :(

Can the MBA be easily be used with, e.g., windows behind you? Just asking ...
unlike the MBPs it doesn't have a glass front
yes SB will be released but will apple adopt it? theystill use core2duos, no usb3, no esata, no Bluray, etc

hopefully

at their current price point, they better be i5's to be competative, quad core i7s can be had for under $999

OSX doesnt support Optimus or SLI, so i highly doubt it, hell even linux supports optimus, apple is just dragging their feet

4GB of ram as standard, i thought it was already standard? SSD's will probably be an option, personally i would rather not have the manufacture put in some piece of junk cheap garbage SSD like apple did with the macbook air,

probably, businesses still use optical media despite what apple fans say
Apple has its own solution and the MBP13 will probably be i3 with upgrade to i5
tell you what, if Apple drops their prices this next update I will not build my i7 custom pc and buy an iMac. They have till next summer to impress me....
( oh god, I'm sounding like a Windows user now...)
we'll probably see an updated iMac in 2011Q1

I would definitely buy if a 17" iMac were put back into play. I stupidly sold my 2006" 17" earlier this year because I thought it was dying, actually it was "too slow": for all the troubles and $ I paid out on subsequent replacements...never again will I replace a great machine because it's too slow. :(

That's really cool that Apple sell the old 17" for education. If the 17" iMac were reintroduced, I would buy another iMac. But if the screens are larger than now (and resolution even more ridiculous), my 2010 will be the last iMac I own.

most probably if there is another model in addition to 21.5"/27" iMac then it is going to be 19" iMac, with 19" widescreen monitor with higher density you have a good desktop space but CPU heat will be in those 19" iMacs (with current iMac are with desktop 65Watts and up CPUs)

for lower end option Mac Mini with SSDs will rock. $599 will be great as well - i highly doubt apple ever will go back to $499.

hard drive is the performance bottleneck in mac mini and laptops - SSDs will solve those. Intel suppose to come out G3 SSDs and good price point as well.

i picked up 120GB intel SSD for about $165, so apple can do it much cheaper with Toshiba SSD (current MBA SSDs) or newer Intel G3 or custom build Sandforce SSD drives

i bet this quad cores are 45watts CPUs and never going to end up in MBP (like current scenario ) they are simply too power hungry for a laptop ...

If your reasoning is accurate, the SB update is going to be pathetic. Comparable computers from other manufacturers have been using quad core CPUs for a while now (eg. HP Envy). Apple needs to move to quads at least on the 15" and 17", or the MBPs won't be able to compete.

All the buzz I've read is that Sandy Bridge is going to be the first time where Quad Cores are actually viable on mobile computers, where Ivy Bridge will make them mainstream.

We shouldn't have anything to worry about. Though if Apple chooses to not go with Quad Cores in the 15", I'll be waiting for another half a year.

It's the "thin" thing again

Quad cores have been viable for a long time, as witnessed by the number of them for sale.

A better statement is that quads will move from being viable for powerful portable workstations (and desktop replacements) to being viable for smaller, thinner systems with reasonable battery life.

Just because Apple has painted itself into a corner with its "thin obsession" doesn't mean that quads aren't viable.

Apple one favor..

I don't care if the 13" MBP is called a Pro or a plain MacBook..

I JUST WANT THE ALUMINIUM UNIBODY.

Also feel free ditching out the SuperDrive. I don't need it.

I want an intel iX core in there and a discreate GPU would be nice too.

But most of all keep th price where it is now. I really want the 13" MBP 2011 to be my first Mac.

Amen.

huh? the 13 MBP is already aluminum unibody

damn, upgrade in first half? My pc brookedown today, need a new one, thought about mbp 13" should I wait for the upgrade? dosent any one got a little more specific rumor? jan or feb? cant live without a laptop for sixmonths waiting.

Last one came out in April... so around then is when I'd expect. But I will say I'm not an expert. Just would assume it would be around a year from last time they released a new one.

Bugger. I want to buy a 17" MacBook Pro this week. Worried that if I keep frikkin' waiting for updates / remodels I'll eventually just spend the (saved) dough on beer. I guess as long as this update is nothing like the move to Intel chips, then I'll be OK: the problem with that update is that it made a whole bunch of software incompatible / potentially obsolete. As long as this is just a tweak of the design (I can't imagine them completely dumping the unibody aesthetic) and a speed boost, I think I can live with it. The vibe about feeling a bit of a klutz because you haven't got the latest thing is just vanity: I guess the 2.8GHz 17" version (if bought now) will be good for a year or two in terms of speed / power. Yeah?

Fix your laptop (do you know what "broke"?), and wait for Apple to adopt some technology newer than 5 years old. (Like eSATA, or USB 3.0, or BD (Blu-ray Disc).)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_future_Intel_microprocessors this may not be 100% accurate source, but i say reliable, 45Watts quad cores; but with integrated graphics + CPU = 45watts

not sure if this is better than the current offering or not. and the heat issue as well.

MBP 15" and 17" just got pretty descent upgrades with plenty extra features..why would Apple upgrade them again?

My guess is the entry pro 13" will get all four choices.

Intel core i5. Two choices. Slow and faster one.

BUT also the choice of keeping or taking out the SuperDrive. If you keep it it's all good. If not then you get a discreate GPU and maybe a little more battery life.

That simple.

Assuming the plain macbook will stay in the mix (and it most likely will) the 13" MBP will need to differentiate itself in order to keep its "pro" status. I'd say the i5 would do this (The i3 going to the MB).

What I fear though is it won't have discreet graphics. Steve's obsession with uber-thinness may finally bite him in the arse. Not everybody wants notebooks that double as salad dicers and paint scrapers.

The 13" MBP is looking like the bastard child in Apple's "fleet" of 13-inchers and they don't know where it fits in the lineup.

Dropping that 17" MBP would sure make this easier. Good riddance.

(There, I said it and no lightening bolts yet).

I'm sorry, did I just miss some big MBP event in the last 7 months? No? Didn't think so. Still using dual core processors, still using slow graphics, still no blade SSDs.

EDIT: You didn't mistake the MBA update for MBPs?

Yes your right. I thought the choice of i7 was an update :p

Whatever..

Also do you think the 13 inched will be taken out of the Pro line or even out of the whole MacBook line up?

IMO no because it is the MacBook Pro that sells even more that the white MacBook..

What do you think?

Nope.

11" and 13" MBA
13", 15" and 17" MBP

If anything is going to die, it will be the white macbook. The pointless wrong-colour sheep of slowness. Although I expect it will get a refresh to make it either more powerful than the Air, or less expensive.

I personally fond of the white sheep.. :p

My neighbor has one for years now and it is going strong!

It's use is for DJ purposes and he is a Pro DJ for living!

And accept it..it isn't that slow..mainly because it is combined with OSX
