So you live in the "sticks," huh, Hydroman? :p

That's okay...we live on 8 acres in the woods. One's brain, though, is whereever one chooses to place it. Hmmm, it must be about 2 or 3 a.m., there now. Can't sleep? Anticipating the arrival of the next extension of your cerebral matter (the G5)? I can certainly understand.

What did you order, and when is it projected to arrive? In my case, initial shipping date was 9/30/2004. It arrive 9/29. Does that give you any hope?

Keep in mind that first month or so of shipments were made via air from Shanghai, w/ Apple admitting a hit on profits and reverting to shipping via cargo containers on ships at some point.

I ordered Aug 31, so that would be 30 days. Where are you on that scale? Here's hoping you beat that.

The "sticks" hardly 250,000 people living in a compact space, yes it's after 2 am, nope been drinking all day watched local football team win! can't sleep,it happens if you drink too much
I ordered on 03/09 or 09/03 whichever side of the pond you are and it has been a mighty 65 days and as far as I can tell its still in Shanghai projected to arrive 18/10 - 10/18 iMac 20/1.8G5/512/250G/SD/APX/BTWLKB/B
congrats on the 2500th I got the 500th

Bluetooth Module - Does it work?

I've heard/read from several sources that the BT wireless keyboard/mouse is "jittery" or sometimes looses sync with the OS/machine.

Can anyone comment on this? Thanks.

Jim

BT flawless

No problem here.

iMac G5 160GB/512MB/AE/BT keybd, mouse

Works flawlessly...but do not inadvertantly hit the OPTION key 5 times in a row...(why or when I did that, I'm clueless)...because that will turn off your BT mouse.

Probably just a mistake. Anyway, Apple rep fixed that.

Really, BT is quite stable. I ordered a RADTECH two button w/scroll wheel mouse and like the Apple wireless mouse, it works flawlessly.

If you consider the AE/AC combo, make sure your wireless phone is NOT 2.4 GHz, because it will turn off/interfer with the wireless AE. Switched to 5.8 gHz phone and solved that little glitch.

But all of these (small) problems were anticipated and/or advertised. Avoid them, and you should be fine. Having just one wire to iMac is just too cool.

Hah! Been watching football too (the real football, American style...just kidding, I know how touchy you blokes are about your football...man, you can't beat the 50-yard pass) with sound off, Virgin Radio UK on, wireless via/AE w/5.1 Dolby cranking.

BTW, can you receive Virgin just 33 miles from London, I would think so? Nice mix...a little to heavy on oldies, though.

Hey! You said 10/18 (or 18/10)...that was last month!? What's going on...slow boat by China is no longer a cliche, I guess.

Your machine is nice. I wanted to order more memory, larger disk. But finally decided to go w/external disks for backup, more storage. Didn't want to put too many eggs in one basket/disk.

Football -touchy - it's only in the name i.e football you guys and the europeans call it soccer which we (Brits) hate after all the football club I support is 119 years old, y'all don't know diddly
Yeah I listen to Virgin at work but on an old fashioned thing called a R-a-d-i-o
and Virgins ethos is to play rock non stop - uh yeah  its better than the other crap we pick up though (regional you know my cat got stuck up the tree, someone stole a tractor :D :D )
Yes my order has turned into little less than a farce it's been cancelled re-ordered my expirey date on my card ran out two of my other orders have been cancelled because they have been superseded by something else or discontinued

Anticipation

I'm quite sorry to hear about the delays...breathe heavily...it WILL end and you will love it, I assure you.

"after all the football club I support is 119 years old, y'all don't know diddly"

University of Florida, est. 1859, football (amer style) in full frenzied tradition by 1905...so I guess you have some additional tradition, but not much, dude ;)

BTW, I do enjoy soccer, esp. world champs and olympics. But a buncha drunken Brits running around retching? Hardly dignified, if you ask me.

:p

Seriously, looks as if yours was placed on a boat. damn, sorry about that. Again...you're gonna love it. Take the day...or week...off. There's so much to explore that comes included. Too cool.

Not to get too pedantic but in the football issue :p in my misty eyed state was 1885 playing proffesional and england playing some? kind of football the 16th century  whatever(which I didn't mention), as for drunken Brits running around retching I'll have you know that we have the quaint tradition of kicking each others heads in between the running around and retching! so there :p

As for getting my order yeah your right , once I get it I really won't want to give it up, I've plenty of vacation to take and I've got the feeling I'll need it,many MS users at work wanting me to produce either DVD's(football/soccer from VHS tapes) or image manipulation (character assasination) ;) and to be honest I don't think there's gonna be enough days in the week to discover the new new iMac I'm still using Mac OS 9.2.2

The world IS getting smaller

I am not too jaded to still be amazed that an (almost drunken) American trapped in the paradise of Florida (surrounded by jihaadist Christians) can be conversing with a (completely plastered) Brit in Ludon in the ween morning hours while a radio station broadcasting from the UK blares over my Dolby 5.1...thanks to modern technology.

It is a pleasure and privilege to have had this conversation with you, hydroman. May your wishes soon be granted.

I think you'll find that it's called the World Cup........ ;)

One day you'll all see where you've been going wrong on that side of the ocean.

Hydroman -Mac OS 9.2.2!! You poor guy! Although i see you ordered a imac with 250 gb...i really regret not doing that. Kinda got a bit excited when i ordered, i guess 160gb will do for now and i can always buy a external hd.

I went for the bigger is better option only for the reason of converting analogue to digital signals which takes up a lot of space, also I might record digital tv like when I'm at work, I could even see me needing to use my 180gb external, makes me laugh to think when I first bought my G3 iMac Ithought it's 13gb hd was massive :)

Did your order statues remain as 'open' till near the dispatch date btw?
Mine has been confirmed, via e-mail, but status is still open on the website

Any updates from my Aussie brethren? Mine should arrive tomorrow.

I haven't got mine yet, but it's only been a week ;) I would be overjoyed if it came this week, but if not, this week already looks set to be the best of my life thus far so I'm not going to complain either way. (Actually, one event can be looked at under two different lights and I have my second of five exams this week so really it all depends on how one thing pans out, whether I consider this a good week or a bad one.)

It really does seem like Apple is jibbing people who ordered via resellers, though. A few people I know from another forum have been waiting since 1 September while others bought similar computers online later and are still waiting... (In fact, someone claimed to have ordered his on Tuesday last week and it was shipping by Friday.)

On the other hand, some resellers have stock apparently. (Or at least, they ordered things they haven't sold yet, I dunno...)

It seems that the information on the website and E.Mail don't always match. The E.Mail is supposed to be the most accurate.

Still waiting for my 20" Imac

Still have not heard a shipping date from Melbourne reseller - order placed 23rd September 250HD and BT. Very frustrating wait.

I've ordered mine

I've decided to order my first Mac - 20" iMac G5. I've been reading all your comments in the forums since the summertime and I'm looking forward to being a Mac owner.

Can't really afford it, but I feel like I deserve it.

Might bump into one or two of you in the London store when it opens.

It's here

Rang reseller this morning and to my surprise it arrived without prior warning, good news for me. Best of luck to others waiting , the imacs will turn up.

More money to Apple

For those waiting for their iMacs, I must tell you that I'm so delighted by mine that I'm going to buy the natural complement -- an IBook, 14". Why?

Well, I equipped the iMac w/AE card and ordered the AE unit at the same time. Allowed me to move printer and dsl over to entertainment center, hook up AE to stereo, and eliminate my CD player. So basically I have a one computer wireless network.

But today was such a glorious fall day I wanted to be outside with my lovely wife, but I also wanted to cruise the Net, which is a pleasure on the iMac (unlike my old PC). I didn't want to move the iMac (to quote gollum: "my precious") off my desk, although I could since it has only one cord, for fear of dropping it.

That's when my gorgeous wife said: "Why don't you get a laptop so you can read the news out here (on our picturesque front porch)?"

What a truly inspired idea. What a lucky man I am to have such an understanding wife.

So now I'm planning my next purchase. Life is pretty damn good.

Could it be that some resellers had the foresight and trust in Apple to order 100 units on day 1 when other waited until they had 100 orders before placing their order with Apple? I see nothing wrong with either practice but think some people are blaming Apple for others late ordering. Apple's own business around the world may have pre ordered what they expected to be able to sell and this has ment that some countries with pesemistic approaches have been left wanting.
That said, unless we find that take up of the iMac has been truely unprecedented (meaning lots of new customers, meaning better economies of scale for future Apple products) I think Apple have done themselves no favours making customers wait 5-6 weeks for a consumer item.

I GOT IT!!!

HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY is all I can say. :p :p :p

I ordered a 20/160/1gig/BT on 10/7 and 28 days later it was in FedEX possesion here in Florida. (They held it for me since last Thursday because I was out of town.) It came this morning and all my wife said is, "What a beautiful computer."

I'm setting it up now. No dead pixels and it is DEAD quiet. :D

Hang in there people, it is WELL worth the weight.

iReilly

PS: This is my first Mac. I've come over to the darkside after 22 years in the profession. I'm very happy!

Listen long enough and you'll hear everything.

That being said, the only time I've had a problem was after leaving my machine on for 5 days and not using it (out of town) and I had to click two or three times for it to come back (computer was on, not sleeping)
