Beyond a joke

Still not released for delivery by TNT  Been sat in the Netherlands since last Wednesday.

It is now exactly 2 months and 1 week since I placed the order. Apple say this morning that they now 'don't know' what is going on...

It sounds like a trip might be in order. Seriously, Apple should find a different carrier.

YAWN

I am still waiting for my iBook, iPod and software. According to the Apple Store, it shipped on the 5th November, and Apecode gives me this (see below) but nothing has changed on there since the 10th, TNT have no information, and I'm getting really bored now.

10 nov 04 30 10 departed direct Apple, Taiwan
10 nov 04 40 69 accept scanned at EDC KN Luxemburg
07 nov 04 32 05 Flight Booked KN Taiwan
05 nov 04 30 60 departed from product source KN Taipei
05 nov 04 05 00 boxes scanned KN Taipei
05 nov 04 00 05 Data received from supplier Apple, Taiwan
05 nov 04 30 64 Departed from source Apple, Taiwan

Anybody got any clue what is going on? This is for final delivery in south west England.

Thanks

G5 Stuck in Shanghai

My G5 has been "In Process" for packing/shipping since Friday, 11/12. According to Apple it should have shipped but they keep saying, "It should be later today or tomorrow" over and over again. The Apple rep even suggested that it could be loaded and they just haven't transmitted the updates to the order mgmt system.

What has been everyone's experience with the timing of when it actually ships to when the web is updated or an email notification is sent.

Thoughts?

Pretty hit and miss, I checked the web it said it was shipping, 3 days later I got an email telling me it was shipping, around 5-6 days later I got an order/ billing confirmation email, 2-3 days later it was delivered

Gypsy Moth?

According to www.apecode.com my iMac was also on a flight that departed from China on the 10th, 6days ago. The flight seems to have gone missing as it’s never been recorded as landing!

Go to the store, click on order status, click show detail, click the order number "00340......", the number you need begins with 80.... but just use the first 10 numbers.

goto http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/ and enter the number click track. there you can track it at the first stage.

The amount of time that shipping takes seems to be realted to the destination. If you live near one of the delivery companies major hubs then you will receive the package sooner.

With nothing better to do while I wait for my iMac I thought I’d have a moan.

I know there are some people who’ve waited longer than me for their delivery but the things that really get me are that Apple makes a point of estimating a shipping time or build time on their website but not a delivery time.(I know it’s probably there hidden in plain site)

The shipping time at the moment is 7-10 days but it would seem you can add at least 2 and a half weeks to that before getting your product.

I can’t believe it takes 2 and a half weeks to get from point a to point b wherever those two points are in the world unless Apple have opted for the cheapest possible route at the cost of customer service.

At least they could offer, at a cost, the option of express delivery. I’d have ‘happily’ paid an extra £100 to shorten my 6 and a half week sentence of using my fathers Wintel PC (Celeron 400mhz) and 28kbps modem!!!

Tomorrow is coming....

TNT said tomorrow it will arrive.

That will make it exactely 10 weeks to the day since I placed my order. I'm sure all the waiting and moanign will be worth it.... :)

hey,

i understand your frustrations - but i cant see that apple would do this on purpose.. i think it could be the sheer *volume* of orders that's taking apple so long. i dont know how many pre-orders there were, but there's been a lot of talk about the imac g5 being in high demand.

in terms of cost, apple is actually air-freighting (sp?) these iMacs, at a cost of $50 per unit to them. i guess im correct in assuming that normally these would come by ship? i'm not too sure, but we know that it's costing them extra cash to get them out of shanghai - so the demand must be HUGE....

I'm not too angry - my estimated ship date was 23/11, and it shipped today - now its just a case of seeing how long it takes...

I decided I couldn't wait any longer. I went to Frys last night and bought a brand new iMac 20". It took me a little while to set up, the salesman didn't know that it did not come with a firewire cable to transfer information, so I had to go back for that.

I inquired about a larger Hard Drive, that would have cost $250. So I went with a 250GB external drive. Two 1 Gig sticks of Ram ran me close to $390 but they are installed and working just fine.

The Airport card was easy to put in. I was surprised at how easy it was to take the computer apart and put it back together again. I feel pretty confident about being able to upgrade parts in the future.

The only trouble I had was with transfering information and getting online. On my old iMac I had used FileVault for a while but stopped, however, this made transferring information difficult and I had to do it in reverse order which was not nearly as easy. The people at Apple had no idea what to do about that.

As far as the internet thing goes, after talking to the support people all I had to do with 'power cycle' the modem and after that it worked fine.

I actually prefer Frys warranty over Apples. They don't ask too many questions and will repair any hardware problems. I bought a 5 year warranty, so if anything goes wrong and they cannot repair it, I will get a brand new iMac (whichever model that may be at the time) that is the equivalent of this one. The warranty was $300 for 5 years, pretty good deal should anything go wrong.

I could not be more happy with the machine though, quiet and very fast. I did come from a G3 though, but still, very fast computer.

When I've bought PC's and laptops in the past they've always been shipped from the factory in China etc. I'm sure that volume has played a part in the delays but I'm also sure that had TNT been offered $100 per unit for express delivery they would have obliged ,most purchasers would have coughed up I think.

but the thing is, TNT only take over from teh Netherlands - and getting the unit from NL to the UK generally doesn't seem to be the slow point - it's getting the units from Shanghai to NL that takes time, and it's Kuehne + Nagel that takes care of that.

This leads me to believe that its K + N that is the root of the delays - perhaps because they cant get these units loaded onto the planes fast enough, or maybe because air-freighting isn't their strong point, i dunno.

I wasn’t trying to single TNT out I’m sure any carrier would be willing to take up the backlog if offered a premium. The point is that all those people waiting weeks for their PC’s are Apple’s customers not TNT’s or k+N’s etc.

I imagine Apple use who they use because they have some sort of contract to use them and only them for all their shipping. The trouble is they’ve left the door open to problems when they should want them least, at the launch of such a major ‘image’ product.

delayed est. ship date

imac 20" BTO educational USA (250GB hard drive; wireless keyboard/mouse)

ordered (Apple store on line) 10/16
original est. ship date 11/16
new est. ship date 11/22

so much for improved inventory

Woohoo my Imac is on it's way, got the confirmation of it shipping.
order date:6/11/04 (or 11/6 for you Americans)
Est. delivery date:29/11/04 (11/29)
So Apple will hopefully beat their estimated date, they say it will take 6-7 business days from today so i reckon we are looking at next thursday!

I ordered a month ahead of you and am willing to bet I'll not have mine next Thursday! If yours does turn up ahead of mine I might just not accept it and send it back to Apple if that's what they think customer service is about.

What's your specifications and location? Keep us informed.

I live in weybridge, which is about 30 mintues south of London.
I ordered the 20" with:
512 mb ram
Bluetooth mouse and keyboard
.mac
Sorry to hear about that mate, but i am not convinced it will arrive then....waiting for actual delivery and will post back.
Don't post it back mate, i know it is a long wait but it is worth it!

The end...

:) It arrived - it is lovely, massive and quiet.

Very very happy, only took 2 months...

Good luck to the rest of you.

BTW - Apple say that they will have iMacs in stock ready to take away from the new apple store opening in London this weekend if people are fed up with waiting....
