I decided I couldn't wait any longer. I went to Frys last night and bought a brand new iMac 20". It took me a little while to set up, the salesman didn't know that it did not come with a firewire cable to transfer information, so I had to go back for that.
I inquired about a larger Hard Drive, that would have cost $250. So I went with a 250GB external drive. Two 1 Gig sticks of Ram ran me close to $390 but they are installed and working just fine.
The Airport card was easy to put in. I was surprised at how easy it was to take the computer apart and put it back together again. I feel pretty confident about being able to upgrade parts in the future.
The only trouble I had was with transfering information and getting online. On my old iMac I had used FileVault for a while but stopped, however, this made transferring information difficult and I had to do it in reverse order which was not nearly as easy. The people at Apple had no idea what to do about that.
As far as the internet thing goes, after talking to the support people all I had to do with 'power cycle' the modem and after that it worked fine.
I actually prefer Frys warranty over Apples. They don't ask too many questions and will repair any hardware problems. I bought a 5 year warranty, so if anything goes wrong and they cannot repair it, I will get a brand new iMac (whichever model that may be at the time) that is the equivalent of this one. The warranty was $300 for 5 years, pretty good deal should anything go wrong.
I could not be more happy with the machine though, quiet and very fast. I did come from a G3 though, but still, very fast computer.
