You'd better believe it, mikeSkull. Why is it taking so long? I have no idea. Surely it wouldn't take THIS long to get something sent from the factory to Scotland.

Like so many of you, the anticipation of my iMac 20" reaching me here in Austria is hurting me. I've had no update from 'apecode' since 18 NOV.

18 Nov - 05 00 - boxes scanned - Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai

Anyone else out there with a similar scan date, but with their iMac already on a plane .... (maybe I dont want to know this  ).

At least I am lucky enough to be sat here with my new iPod photo and Shure E3c headphones ... I can confirm they make a great combination.

Fingers crossed for swift deliveries to us all.

My TNT link is now active, called Apple up they said expect it Monday/tuesday.
Again...not getting my hopes up. Took the day off college today to take the delivery and i know no-one will be in monday, grrr.

Sorry to hear about your long wait guys. The wait will just the the product that much sweeter when it arrives. Your patience will be rewarded.

I guess it took the high road after all

I have just discovered that TNT is open 24/7 so if your not home, go to your local depot at go collect :)

I wish I had know that sooner.
Off to play with my new iMac some more :)

There is a tiny possibility that it might be delivered tomorrow...fingers crossed!

They say on the website that if it is collected on friday, as it was, then it should be delivered on the saturday.

Mate, I don't want to burst your bubble... but the chances of TNT delivering tomorrow are basically zero.

They are a business courier and don't deliver on weekends unless the sender pays for a premium delivery service, which Apple most certainly don't.

Furthermore I have found from experience with Apple and TNT that it takes a minimum of a working day for an item to get from continental Europe to a UK mainland hub, and then a minimum of one further working day to reach it's destination.

Therefore I'd reckon the earliest you will receive your item is Tuesday... but even that could be optimistic... I've had parcels from Apple fartarse around the country for up to 5 working days before getting to me before.

I really don't want to depress you, but having been there myself a number of times, want to prepare you for the fact that tomorrow will almost certainly NOT bring you the happiness you have been waiting for for so long :(

Let us know when it does arrive.

1st Post From My New iMac

I thought I'd share the 1st post from my new iMac with those poor souls still hanging on for theirs in this thread.

Just to let you know mine's got no dead pixels and has been perfectly silent except for when I loaded the software for my DSL modem when it seemed to try and take of during the re-start. Seriously it was louder than my desk fan with all the internal fans seemingly running at full tilt!

Good luck to those still waiting. For the record Apple shipped in 3weeks 6days and delivery took 2weeks 6days China to Jersey. Unpacking, set up and on to the internet in less than 10mins.:)

my delivery status is as follows:

26 nov 04 90 75 truck arrived at final destination Apple Shanghai 23 nov 04
25 nov 04 30 10 departed direct KN Luxemburg
25 nov 04 40 69 accept scanned at EDC KN Luxemburg 23 nov 04
18 nov 04 32 55 flight departed Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
18 nov 04 32 05 Flight Booked Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
16 nov 04 30 60 departed from product source Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
16 nov 04 05 00 boxes scanned Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
16 nov 04 30 64 Departed from source Apple Shanghai
16 nov 04 00 05 Data received from supplier Apple Shanghai

They guy at apple said that he's pretty certain that it will arrive on Tuesday. He told me that my TNT link wont be active until monday tho (im guessing they dont update on weekends?)..

If it does, it will be 28 days from my order date to arrival date - not bad..

Once again shows that our beloved Mac is a quick plug and play dynamo.

Now we wait to hear from Fredstar. If not a surprise, then hopefully the weekend goes quickly.

When did you orders yours Asif? I swear it was before mine...
My Tnt is active and is confirmed for delivery for monday. Sitting in Northampton 80 miles away, seriously considered picking it up today!

Fredstar, I ordered on the 2nd Nov - looks like it got stuck somewhere between the flight from Shanghai and reaching Lux. When did you order?

I seriously considered cancelling the order and going to buy it from the Apple retail store, but to be honest, having a little bluetooth dongle hanging out of my machine when I know I could've eliminated it by waiting a few more days would annoy the hell out of me..

lol - please excuse the last sentence, doesn't make much sense but you catch my drift im sure ;)

I ordered on the 7th Nov, that is annoying about the delay.
I thought exactly the same mate, because i bought the lucky bag at the Regent street opening i could have kept the wireless mouse and keyboard and .mac and used my 10% card on it and got it last monday...but it had already shipped and i didn't want a bt module sticking out at the back.
There was also a one day hold up before it got to Holland which would have meant i got it on friday!
Hope it comes on tuesday mate, bloody hell if i get a crappy imac with the fan problem or any other problem...i just don't want to think about it.

I think that I would feel the same way. That dongle would probably become annoying.

When it does arrive, what's the best way for me to transfer files from my PC to it? The person I spoke to in the Regent Street store today didn't know (there was an enormous queue for the genius bar so I just asked one of the floor staff), and an Apple rep in John Lewis said that I should use an ethernet cable.

I have a CD burner on my PC, but not a DVD burner. My pictures and files would fit on a CD, but I have lots of music (8Gb) that will take ages to burn onto CD.

Dave

p.s. I tried searching for this without much success, so i apolagise if this is covered elesewhere (and if it is, please point me in the right direction).

You should either

1. Get a crossover ethernet cable (less than £20), plug one end into each computer's network port, and with a bit of fiddling with your sharing options, you should be able to mount your PC's hard drive on your Mac. Then just drag and drop the files across.

2. Use an external hard disc - shove the files onto it on the PC, then drag the files out of it into the Mac... this method is MUCH quicker btw

to be honest, i'm not *too* fussed about the delay, because I was expecting it (the delay) from day one. Apple (so far) haven't missed their ship dates, so I dont think I have much reason to complain.. :) Like wdlove said, the longer you wait, the more you appreciate it! ;)

Now...if I have a fan issue - i'll go spare! I suppose that's and advantage of having a procare card, next day repairs

Good luck Fred (is that your name? I'm guessing it is ;)), I hope your machine comes on tuesday!

You do have a point, Apple's original projection was for monday so i ordered knowing it would take a while and i certainly will appreciate the imac!
Tis Fred, Fredstar was a recent Ex-gf knickname for me :p and now loads of people are calling me it - kinda growing on me.
I got procare in my lucky bag and i am not sure if i should keep it or sell it, the whole next day repair thing is really good. I think i will wait a few weeks and if my imac is alright then sell it

I got ProCare in my lucky bag too!

Thing is, I don't think it really is worth much - either keeping it, or selling it.

Apparently the 'next-day repairs' is only possible if they have the parts they need in stock... and they often don't have the parts in stock, in which case it can take days/weeks to get your item repaired.

Everything else is purely notional value... transferring data across (whopee), trying out products before you buy them (double whopee), appointments with a Genius (you can get these anyway), training (that is what the Studio gives for free) etc etc etc.

I don't think anybody will buy it off you, at the £79 Apple want to charge for it will only be purchased by loons IMHO.

Floop

Dispatch times down to 5-7 days on the website for all the models now, looks like they are finally starting to catch up with demand of the G5's.
But if you add that damn BT module then it goes back upto 2-3 weeks

They would've saved themselves a lot of time if they included BT on all the models.

Then again, I suppose they designed the bundle to get rid of excess inventory of those Wireless Mice/Keyboards - because I cant imagine to many people were buying them at £60 each..
