iMac G5 Now Shipping

Trekkie, I feel your pain. I chose to have my stuff shipped all together and Apple decided to split up the shipments on their own. So far I've gotten two emails informing me that my Apple Care and Airport Express have shipped.

My heart sinks each time.

Ditto on everything. Exact same situation.

BTO 20in w/bluetooth still says 9/29. Everything else is on the way (Apple has changed my "wait until all items are available" to "ship as available"). Interesting that the Airport Express Base Station is shipping from Taiwan; AppleCare from Sacramento, CA.

I sure hope after all this I don't get a machine with 20 bum pixels...

I'm worse than my kids on Christmas morning. The bummer is that this Christmas morning is lasting weeks!!!

My wife's iBook took the same routing to Memphis and then sent to Oklahoma City before coming to Tulsa. I'll live with the routing through Memphis if Apple would only ship my 20"!

Enjoy the iMac and let us know how you like it.

The majority of shipments that come via FedEx come through Memphis. This is their main hub, if you are the west coast it could come through Oakland.

If anyone has a tracking number that I can look at which is "lost" in China, that would be cool.

A little surprised

Well im typing on my new 20 inch iMac as we speak...and just got a nice xbench score to boot (not that xbench means anything but whatever). I was shocked at the amount of pixel problems my first machine had. Thankfully the roosevelt field store had 20 new 20's in stock this morning. I went through looking at 2 other machines only to find that they had between 4 and 8 stuck pixels as well. Then looking at a floor model I saw them on 17. I have really good eye sight and these are not very well lit up pixels but are unmistakably of the red blue and green variety. The interesting this is that they are virtually invisible on all but a black background AND NO ITS NOT DUST! I was using a pixel checker and know what I saw. Anyways the machine I am using now has about 4 stuck pixels however they are so faint that I can even see them unless staring directly at it under the lowest light and on a black background. If I move inches away its not even visible. So theres my rant and here come my pics!

New story from FedEx is that those 430 are still at Apple. They have a record of a call from Apple at 9:22 PM Shanghai time on 9/15 ( a little over 36 hours or so ago), to hold pickup of them for 2 days. They also state they got the same call from other computer companies to do the same.

So perhaps in the next 12 hours we'll see movement, if this latest story holds water.

Has anybody in UK got delivery of imac yet? I am waiting for 20" to replace my Toshiba laptop. I am changing to Mac and hence apprehensive!

Sorry that yours is in limbo. If they are waiting for a full plane load, I sure hope that my 20in BTO w/bluetooth makes it off the line and onto that plane!!!

I checked some old e-mails from Apple and everything that was shipped from China had an e-mail sent in the wee hours of the morning. If there is no e-mail notification of shipment I don't think that there will be any use in tracking order status except once in the morning- especially since order status is VERY slow with everyone checking it.

The 2 day delay in FedEx picking up the computers might indicate that there was a component problem found when a random test was done and Apple is reassembling the computers. Puts your computer delivery off 2 days and my 20" assembly off 2 days - aggghhh!

The question is... how many? Maybe Apple really did stockpile a ton of them over the summer. But they've already said supplies will be tight.

Meanwhile Microsoft is dishing out Windows XP Media Center to boost Windows sales. Its being touted as a new OS. What rubish!

Not fair Mine is estimated for 1st Oct and it's still showing that! I will be checking everyday now - i've been good up until now

I'm also a bit worried about pixels now after reading through this thread - is this a common problem? I've only had CRT screens up until now.

Also does anyone know what Accessory Kit-B is listed on my order?

My first and only Mac didn't ship this way, and I will definitely be disappointed when my new iMac shows up in the state shown in those pictures.

I totally agree with you! I would want my box to be in nice condition too - so to speak!

I'm really anal about my boxes, I still have some for stereo gear I bought in 1999. I'll be rather upset if it is really trashed. Hopefully it'll be in nice condition. That's one bonus from buying locally is that the box is usually spotless since they are overpacked and shipped to the store instead of just slap a shipping sticker on and sent.

Did yours have any custom options chosen for it - mine was "just" the standard model!

is it me or does that 20" iMac inside cooling look diferent to the 17" the part on the G5 chip cooling, it goes straight to one of the fans, the 17" does not, so the 20" should run cooler (ie faster, i hope)
