Mine's arrived

My 17" (1gb ram, Airport Express) arrived today, a day before FedEx said it would.

Here's a post I wrote about it, with some pictures as well. I hope everyone that's waiting for Shanghai to get straightened out gets theirs soon!

Crucial have sold out, anyone know best place for G5 iMac (20") RAM?

Thanks

Ramjet and Other World Computing have pretty good prices. I've ordered from OWC before and I've yet to run into any problems. A one gig stick goes for $219.95 there: 1 Gig

New story from FedEx is that those 430 are still at Apple. They have a record of a call from Apple at 9:22 PM Shanghai time on 9/15 ( a little over 36 hours or so ago), to hold pickup of them for 2 days. They also state they got the same call from other computer companies to do the same.

So perhaps in the next 12 hours we'll see movement, if this latest story holds water.
This is funny: I spoke to Apple and they said these machines were clearly just stuck in customs. He went on to explain that it takes a long time for them to ship from China. I could tell he was lying. As in, why would all the other ones have made it over here so quick?

I just noticed that in all of the pictures the wired keyboards no longer have 2 USB ports on the sides. Can anyone confirm this? Why would Apple take out this feature?

Yeah, that's crucial.

The ports are now located on the back of the keyboard where the plug runs from the unit to the computer. I liked the old configuration better as the cords could simply sit to the side, where as now they occasionally find their way onto the keyboard and mess up mayt tyaepng

Edit: darn it! I have been bested!

Received my 20"

Hey all, just thought I'd let you know that today I received my 20" today. I got the free shipping. I got my email telling me it shipped on tuesday, and now on thursday it's here. I'm glad I didn't pay extra for faster shipping.

Good luck to all those still waiting,

Bry

Just talked to the Apple Store to add a printer (remembered that you can add a $99 printer and get a $99 rebate - a printer for the sales tax).

He mentioned that the iMacs were going out the factory faster than they thought they would so people will normally be getting them faster than the order states.

Thinking about it, the information on how easy the iMac will be to access internally for the average user also probably means that they go together a lot faster on the assembly line. Makes the iMac less expensing and gets it to some lucky customers faster. Sadly I'm not one of them!

Did the very same thing from them yesterday :D

£330ish for these two dinky little chips!

My wife just returned from our local Chestnut Hill Mall Apple Store. They had a new 17" iMac on display. She thought it looks very nice. There was also another empty space for display of a second iMac, maybe the 20". She said that there was a college professor looking at the iMac. He was discussing with another person about using the iPod as a dictaphone.

Please let us know if there are any dead or stuck pixels. BigEvan23's report of dead/stuck pixels on every 20" iMac he inspected is a little disturbing.

Do you ordered a 20" BTO model?
I want mine NOW

BTO 20" and no dead pixel

The 20" that I received today was a BTO. I got it with Final Cut Express installed.

Also, I did not notice any dead pixels at all.

THE BIG BOYS

Hi BigEvan23, congrats on your iMac, sorry to hear you had 20" stuck pixels, but nice of the store to let you pick from their stock.

Apparently they have a lot more initial stock than with the G5 2.5, I remember the apple stores only getting a couple each week.

Do you have any issues or problems with your 23"? There are lots of stories around, but I bet there are a couple of bad batches of screens.

thx man

FYI, speaking as someone whose employer has a computer manufacturing plant that is outside of the US and ships things into the US, and it always seems when the importance of the shipment is very high it gets stuck in customs some how.

And it's always just one shipment that gets flagged, not the entire order. They'll randomly grab boxes out of a pallette and go over them, not the whole order, so then you got some stuff stuck while the rest of the order goes through. It's very frustrating.

they are now on the rear :)

Yeah and I hate that. I had to buy one after my wife dumped a cup of tea in the keyboard and with the mouse cord on my FP 800MHz kb that had them on the side, so now my mouse has to be 3" from the keyboard

Though one day, when my shiny new 1.8GHz 20" BTO iMac shows up I will have no more wires

I just picked mine up! I cancelled my online order and picked one up at the Barton Creek Apple store in Austin!!! I bought the 20". I cannot wait to get out of work. I would leave early, but I already took a three hour roady today. :D

Sorry to hear about the stuck pixels. None here on my 20".

It is good news that Apple appears to be ahead of the projected shipping dates. This iMac has got to be easier to manufacture than the last. Let's hope they can keep up the pace. :)

I am worried about hearing about all these dead pixels. My G4 FP had 2 of them. But the couple of post here say what 6-10 + What is Apples policy on dead pixels? I can't post a new thread on this board because I am too new. Can someone post a new thread about everyone to chime in how many dead pixels they are getting?
