iMac G5 Now Shipping

Got my notice this morning that it shipped today. The 'estimated delivery date' from Fedex is October 11th. Hope that's not true!

Darn, you ordered about 2 hours before me. I guess that means my 20" w/BT got pushed back until the next batch.

Bluetooth user fit?

I'd like a G5 when they arrive in the UK, but I'd like to walk out of a store with one under my arm rather than order a BTO from Apple. How does the Bluetooth work out in this case? It's not clear whether I can fit it myself or whether I need to do a BTO to get the built-in module.
Any advice?
 
it's b-e-a-utiful!

ok I had my first sight to a 17" 1.8GHz iMac today. I guess it was pretty much the first unit in Finland because they had a demonstration for it and if I read correctly, it was there only between 12am-6pm.

so there I went and spent something like half an hour watching at that thing. the Apple presentative who was there at the moment had been demoing the iMac in the Paris Expo. I asked him if he could tell me when he got to know anything about the computer, and he told me he didn't know anything before monday evening when he got a briefing of the product. And that was it.. on tuesday he was demoing the machine.

In contrast he told me that with PC products he had about three weeks to get to know the to-be-demoed product.

Anyway the iMac was so sweet! it really does look more like a display than a computer :)

OK, I ordered an imac config that I have not seen posted yet --

17"/1.8/BTKBM/512MB/250GB

Ordered on 8/31, but still not shipped.

It is scheduled to ship on 9/30. Anyone else in a similar situation?

You cannot fit it yourself. But you can do what I'll probably end up doing an just get a little USB dongle and pop it in the USB port on the back of the screen, or on the keyboard, either way you'll hardly see it.

Yep, thought so. Either a dongle or a 4 week wait for Apple. Anyway I'll probably wait for Tiger before buying..... if I can stand to wait that long!

The Horror!

BT Configs are shipping for sure.

My 20" shipped today out of ShangHi but to my dismay...

The estimated delivery date was October 11th (Aaaarrrrggggghhhhh!)

Has anyone else seen anything like this and then been surprised by a quick shipment.

This is so cruel.
 
Shipping

No not mine yet, but the good news is I have been restrained enough today to have not even gone to the Apple website. :D Have checked email only because of other needs, wow there were others things going on in my life. ;)

I have seen several posts regarding shipping and thought I'd share some info.

First, in regards to Apple shipping stuff from Asia. When I ordered my PB back in April (the beginning of the full switch) it was on a 2 -4 week backlog so I up'ed it to 2 day shipping. In my need for instant gratification I called Apple to find out more info on when it would ship. During that conversation I was informed that Standard Shipping would take the same amount of time as 2 day, so I reduced shipping to standard and it did in fact arrive within 2 shipping days of leaving Taiwan. It also travelled a very similar route that the iMacs are traveling. Taiwan - Alaska - Memphis (as this is the nearest hub to me, and all these legs were flown) - driven to New Orleans - delivered the next day. It was shipped on a Friday and delivered on a Tuesday.

And on the held at facility question, if Fedex operates similar to UPS where I used to work, the package was most likely sorted after the truck had already left for Iowa, so it will either be on a later truck tonight or first thing in the morning. My guess is that it will be leaving later today.

Mine shipped!!

My memory, that is. I got a few rebate checks back and realized I had enough cash to buy 2x1GB sticks. FedEx delivered them to somebody this morning, I have no idea if it is a neighbor or my apartment complex office. Guess I'll find out tonight. Still no word on the iMac though.

I love that map of florida (hurricanes vs. Bush) on the website in your sig.

Interesting to note that Ivan has reformed as a TS and is hitting LA today and Texas this weekend, both Bush states as well.

Sounds like more of the BT orders are starting to creep out, maybe there is still some luck for the rest of us yet that they will ship this week.

I have the same exept 1gb ram and I ordered on the 1st too. Hope it ships today!
 
Here's a Fed Ex update for those of you who got shipping notices today (23rd) that list an Oct. 11th delivery date (ouch).

The Fed Ex rep I spoke with confirmed that these units are still going out via air (not boat, as someone had suggested) and that the shipment should only take 2-3 days once the product is "up-lifted" from Shanghi. As of 9:00am pst the units had not been picked up by Fed Ex. He suggested checking back tomorrow for an updated delivery estimate.

Now my obsessing routine is all screwed up and I will have to re-train myself to check the Fed Ex website instead of my email !!!
 
iMacs Shipped

I ordered (3) IMG5 17/1.8/512MB/80GB/SD/BT/WL KBD/MSEL around 9:30AM PST on 8/31, they shipped today. Paid for 2-day on each, estimated shipping says 10/11 on all, so I'm glad to see the post that someone called FedEx. Any chance they might deliver on Saturday? If so, my cup runneth over...

I ordered the same config, at the same time as you, and have the same estimated ship date. The order status is still "Open". :(
 
i showed my mother the new imac last month (august) and she about crapped her pants in excitement. and i thought i was excited :) but she just got an e-mail today that it "shipped" on 9/23 but won't be delivered until 10/11. so i think apple is using some trickery to make it look like the thing is shipping, things are happening, etc, but 2 weeks to ship from china? when i bought my lovely pb 12 it took 2 days to get from taiwan to utah so....i think it hasn't really "shipped" yet, but when it does it will be nice. very excited to play with the old boy.

and on a completely unrelated topic, i bought an old school imac off ebay. a 400mhz g3 for 200 bucks. i loaded os x on the old schooler and i must say i am very impressed with the speed. i figured it would be much slower but for daily tasks like e-mail, web, word processing, etc, that machine does pretty well for its age!

very cool, i don't think i could buy a 5-6 year old pc and have the same experience i did with osx/imac g3. very impressive.

Same deal with me but i kept the hard drive at 80GB and got Airport built in too. Order and ship date's the same too. Haven't heard much about the 17"s w/BTKBM shipping.

Still waiting...

one other thing about shipping

For those of you who have received emails but have the Oct 11 est. delivery date.

A large shipper like Apple actually has a computer onsite that is on FedEx's network or at least communicating through the interent. Once a product rolls off the line or out of inventory and they slap a label on it, it is in FedEx's system. And that is where on your tracking it will say, Shipper's info received, or something like that. When the FedEx driver actually shows up that is when you will see a picked up status or left destination or somethign like that. Then it is actually on its way and a reschedule est delivery date will be posted.

Oh man I must use restraint, I can't believe I haven't checked the status today. Still no emails though. Congrats to those who have them on the way.
