I can't believe I'm thinking about this level of detail...oh well, 3-day weekend, so I've got lots of time.

You know, I don't recall ever seeing a thread with 900+ posts on it about any of Dell's new models shipping... weird.

Just remember, you're talking about logic, and we all know that Apple doesn't do things logically all the time ;)

If an iMac G5 rolled off the line, tested and ready for shipping...wouldn't the logical order of events be:

1. Scan in a completed product.

Actually 1. should be.

1. Random check computer as it comes off the line. If defective send it to the back room where one 85 year old lady will test it out as soon as she can find her glasses.

1.a. Put customer on the "Poor SOB" list.

You don't say?

That's awesome! I bet that if I don't get a shipping notice tomorrow I may end up down at the Apple Store in Tampa this weekend to pick up a stock 20". I need to be patient... I need to be patient...

Congrats!

No! Hold out for no wires (well, one wire)!!

Then, you'll be living Ives dream.

I'm holding out. I won't give in to temptation! I'm resolute. I'm strong.

(Uh, Finrock, do you have the address for the Tampa store? It's only a 2 1/2 hour drive one way for me....I've got tomorrow off...I could be back before the wife found out...)

Stay away, you devil! Do not cross my doorway!!

Its in International Plaza, the big upscale mall right next to Raymond James Stadium and TPA. Your best bet tomorrow would be to head down 75 south to 275 south, then follow the signs to TPA. Its really easy to get to.

Would Orlando be closer?

Unfortunately, ship happens

Recently I ordered 20 3/4" water meters, 20 1-25 psi gauges, 20 2" galvanized 1/4" nipples (hah), and 40 1" PVC unions for....20 water injection lines at a landfill fill where we're trying stimulate production of landfill gas that is used by electric generators to make "green" energy.

Well, the supplier had only 16 meters, 18 gauges, 20 nipples, and 30 unions.

As a result, we installed 15 new injections lines...the other five await fulfillment of the order.

That's what I'm worried about.

Maybe they only have, well, X amount of BT modules, X-1 amount of 160 HDs, X-4 amount of 250 HDs, and so on.

As I indicated, five injection lines didn't get built, due to shortages of critical parts.

Please if there is a God, whoever she might be, may she grant us an abundance of all parts needed to build all permutations ordered by the loyal customers on 8/31.

I fear reality...the factory will be 1 short of, say, an AX card, and the order will sit there, day after day....And it will be MINE!!!!!!

And 9/1.

I think we could all use some sleep. Let us all awaken to our inboxes stuffed with shipping notices from Santa Jobs!

Oy vey!

1.a. Put customer on the "Poor SOB" list.

Could that be me? Or you?

LOL :D

What have you done to get ready for the delivery???

I imagine this is what expectant parents go through!

But in anticipation of my new Mac, I have done the following:

1) Got more RAM from Crucial - another 512MB stick for a matched gig in total

2) Ditched my crapola audiovox cell phone and switched mobile providers so I could get a Sony Ericsson bluetooth cell phone (T637 - sweet!) - Can't wait to fire up iSync and watch my Mac and phone talk to each other.

3) Planned a new office and desk layout

4) I even bought a new power bar!

I'm still trying to find a nice white ethernet cable - but those are hard to come by.

What have you done to get ready???

ps I think I need help!

My preparations include the following.

1. Bought a Belkin UPS to keep the new toy running.

2. Ordered 2 gigs of ram from OWC.

3. Got a 7 port USB2 hub to reduce cable clutter.

4. Got an Airport Express to stream music to my Surround system.

5. Playing lots of Burning Monkey Solitaire to make the waiting easier. :)

Here is what seems to be holding up shipments so far:
20" iMacs w/Bluetooth/KB+Mouse, 250 GB HD, extra memory, FCE pre-installed

I've seen word of similar shipments, I have a feeling that we'll all be surprised pretty soon.

(Note: there is no direct scientific evidence to support my claims)
That does describe the config I'm still waiting for...

This thread is getting more desperate by the minute.

Everyone.... Deep breath, hold it...hold it....hold it....exhale. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Now go check that order status, damn it!!!

:)

Well, I haven't ordered the memory yet, but I have.

1) Reorganised 3 rooms of the house, buying new furniture for the lounge so it will look nice for the iMac. Got rid of the big computer desk in the office (as the iMac won't be there any more) and converted it into a library (small room with lots of book cases)

2) Got broadband

3) Exchanged wired network hub for wireless

It turns out that the extras that you need to do when buying an iMac is more work than it would appear at first

Worse than not shipped yet

My original Shipping date was 29th, so I was quite happy waiting until then for it to ship, but GREAT, it said it shipped on the 21st.

NOW however the status is

"on hold; aircraft/truck failure"

and it is still in Shanghai.

It's even worse than waiting for it to be shipped, knowing that it has been shipped, and is just sitting there. :(

I think I'll just go off into the corner and cry for a few minutes.

It sure looks like it: CNSHA = ChiNa, SHAnghai

Congrats on that iMac!

shipping ?

sorry to be so overanxious, but what is happening when the fedex tracking page says the imac has left the sorting facility in the philipines, but that was almost a day ago? Does that mean it's on route?

Yes, then it's on it's way to the next stop :)

Does it take that long to get from the PH to AK? It left the PH yesterday in the early afternoon and it still hasn't arrived. I really hope the projected delivery date of 10/11 is wrong.

Status now "Shipped"

No info yet on Fedex site.

It would appear our identical twins shipped about the same time.

I'll pass on Fedex info as it changes ... so far it just says:
Sep 24, 2004 1:52 pm
Left FedEx Origin Location
SHANGHAI CN 1:52 pm
Pickup status SHANGHAI CN
Future pickup/delivery requested

20" 250GB BT ready for FedEx.

Still at the factory waiting for a truck to pick it up 6 hours after FedEx is advised it's ready. Look like sometime between Monday and Wednesday if things go normally.

At least it came off the line before this thread hit 1,000 - the people waiting for a rig with the 30" display are over 5,000 posts!

I have got to give Apple credit for handling this rollout in a great manner. They beat their projected roll out date by 5 days on the "least available" version, have already shipped a huge percentage of the initial early orders and have done a great job of filling the supply channels for stores and distributors.

I ordered 6 AM on 31 Aug. If you didn't get an e-mail this morning keep looking as my e-mail was sent about 6AM (CDT) - 6 hours after the computer was ready for FedEx.

Now I had better figure out how to tell my wife I bought it . . .
