iMac G5 Now Shipping

I have 2GB of crucial memory ready to install, plus a Maxtor Onetouch 250 GB hard drive for backup.

No fair! Only difference for me was my hard drive is only 160GB and my RAM is 1GB. I ordered mine at 08/31/2004 at 12:06PM and I haven't received any notification and the Order Status page still says 09/29/04.

Maybe because I am in Canada????? :confused:

One more weekend of waiting....

You might get an e-mail later in the day as they are being sent later than my previous ones.

The issue is not Canada (there have been shipments to the UK and EU) but one of running a batch of the same configuration. Look for one very soon now.

My IMG5 20/1.8/512MB/250GB/SD/APX/FCE/BT/WL just shipped to Canada! :D Shipping is via FedEx (chose standard shipping), but they have not received it yet, according to their site. I can hardly wait!

I wish you the best. Apple's pledge to ship in the order received hasn't always matched reality. I originally placed an order for a 2.5 Dual G5 PowerMac on June 9th and after multiple delays decided to cancel the order when the iMac G5 was announced. For anyone who followed the painful saga on the 2.5 thread/spreadsheets, etc. it became obvious that there were multiple constaints and priorities in the system.

So far, the iMac rollout appears to be much smoother. Unfortunately, it doesn't always appear to be fair. Good luck!

Read through this thread since the iMacs started shipping and you'll see that there have been shipments for stock models - one guy had his shipped the day after he ordered his stock (no BTO) iMac. That's pretty aggressive and I think most stock iMacs orders have been taken care of.


BTO 17" with BT has also gone out over the past few days and the last to be put through the line looks like the 20" BT 250GB. There have also been a lot of reports of people seeing & buying in stores around the world - just taking one home.

So, in less than two weeks after the announced ship date the distribution channels are filling up very well, stores are getting their orders and are selling the iMacs like mad AND custom BTO orders are being shipped BEFORE the projected date.

When you consider that this is a totally new computer starting production and the supply chains were empty for 3 months I believe that Apple is doing a hell of a job.

i can't believe it happened either...i walked into work this morning...checked my email...and there it was...my shipping notifications. says estimated delivery of oct. 11 10:30am but since i paid for expedited shipping, i am expecting it monday or tuesday of next week. time to get ready for a long weekend...
 
On the way

I got my notification yesterday. So far, it has left Shanghai, arrived in Subic Bay and then left Subic Bay. No further info for the last 19 hours now.

This is the last Status at Fedex which I recieved about 2:10 PM EST yesterday.

i ordered on aug. 31st and have had a shipping date of on or before oct. 30th. i am in virginia and my order was 20"/1.8/512MB/250GB/BT/AX.
 
I just got my shipping notice, ordered it on 9/1. 1:52pm on 24 pick up at SHANGHAI. My estimated delivery is Oct 13. That seems real slow to me.

Congrats to all those for whom today is the lucky day!

Alas, as of now I am not in that group. I'm wondering how I (apparently) got stuck being in the last shipping group for the 8/31 orders.
Oh well. I'll save most of my whining for if/when Apple misses my 9/29 ship date, otherwise I can't really fault them.

I hope all of you lucky ones enjoy the FedEx tracking page! It has to be a nice change from the Apple one.

i ordered a 17"/1 GIG/80GIG HD/Wireless KB & mouse on 9/15. Ship date says OOB 10/14. Anyone in a similar situation here?
 
Attn: People who have iMacs

Could someone post details on how long it took their iMacs to get to the US from China? Did the iMacs actually move over the weekend? Perhaps someone could post the FedEx logs from their shipment so we can get an estimate on how long the next phase of our waiting will take.

A word about transit times

I'll be waiting a little bit yet. I placed an order for a 17" 1.8 on 9/13, but then decided to switch to the 20" on 9/20. They have me posted for a 10/20 ship date.

As far as the in-transits from China, I ordered a BTO iBook earlier this year. I got a shipping notification e-mail from Apple late on Wednesday (probably sometime between 7pm and 10pm EST) and it arrived Friday morning. It seems as if it never leaves China, and when it finally did it made a bee-line to Georgia overnight.

Hopefully these speculations about "batch order shipping" are true. I dunno if I can wait until late October. I love my iBook, but this 12" display is starting to wear my eyes out. :)
