I received email from apple my 20" BTO had shipped 9/25. I ordered via Apple Store Educational discount. I called Apple and they said average time 5-7 days.

Well, on the FEDEX tracking page, it indicated 10/13 estimated delivery date. I called FEDEX and they explained that China has a 5-day holiday through this Friday, 1 Oct. Any packages there will not be shipped until Friday night, 1 Oct.

So, bottom line, if your package/iMac is in China as of this weekend, it will not ship until 1 Oct. From there, it could take another 4-7 days.

Sorry for the bad news, but that appears to be the latest shipping news from China. :(

I by no means am saying that this is wrong but seems pretty far out that FedEx would have a 5-7 day delay on shipping because of a holiday. National holidays don't prevent shipping here. When I worked at UPS I could draw triple time by working on the actual holiday ( ie Thanksgiving).

I guess really only time will tell.

I don't know about this National Day holiday or whatever, but my iMac was in Shanghai all weekend. I checked the FedEx page a few minutes ago, and it said that 45 minutes ago (9:40PM 9/27 Shanghai time) it left the FedEx ramp. So if this holiday is happening, I guess the FedEx drivers don't get it.
Or, alternatively, FedEx is just screwing with me, take your pick.

Reserve on Credit Card

Finally, looks like there is a reserve on Credit card, for the amount of purchase.

However, no change in status on ship and no email. Anyone, no how long it takes for things to change once this occurrs? Waiting anxiously.

Mine took about four days from the time I noticed the charge authorization. I don't know how promptly I noticed it though.

Before you got an email or apple web site status change, do you remember which occurred first? do you have your imac now?

In my case, the Apple status page kept changing back and forth from shipped to open, which was maddening, but the email saying shipped arrived about the same time. I just got the magic email last friday though, so I don't have my iMac yet.

I'm checking the apple web site now, more often than I did last week. This is driving me insane. thanks for your replies.

I ordered my BTO 20" with BT, xtra RAM, and AX exactly 7 days ago (9/20). They put the hold on my card on Thursday afternoon (9/23). They emailed me this morning (9/27) telling me that it has shipped.

Now I realize I am quite lucky that this all happened so fast. But I did order from the Educational Store, through my University, and I have heard that they are taking care of those orders faster than others.

It also depends on how your bank works. Some show temp. charges immediately, others don't. This whole process w/ Apple may have been faster since I ordered w/ the Educ. discount. I really don't know the rhyme or reason to this process.

Hang in there guys.

"august moon festival" is going on...august in the lunar calendar...its a pretty big deal in korea where it is called chu-sok...its alot like thanksgiving with mooncakes ;)

Email last Friday and it appears that mine left Subic Bay at 4:57 AM and is "in transit". No update for 18 hours on FedEx so there is no telling where it is. If the plane arrived in Alaska this morning there is a chance I will have it sometime tomorrow.

Things to do while waiting

Waiting can really be difficult. For those switching there should be something "Mac based" to do while they are going nuts. Everyone who is an old Mac user should list one site & product for their favorite Mac accessory and one interesting site for software or other stuff.

My favorite site & product is griffintechnology.com and the PowerMate is my favorite product there. A knob that is a volume control when in iTunes and scrolls up and down in selected apps. (Actually, for my PB the iCurve is also a favorite.)

My number one site for neat little freeware or shareware apps is http://osx.hyperjeff.net/Apps/cats.php and I have spent hours looking at what is available. (Includes commercial apps as well - including Apple's).

That's my contributions for the newbies. Enjoy! Hopefully others will add to the list. It can only help pass the time.

Did a quick google search for "Chinese Holidays" and found this:

National Day (October 1)
It is the anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 in the wake of routing the Nationalists who have since taken refuge in Taiwan. There used to be grand parades squares of major cities of the country. Now celebrations usually take the form of parties in amusement parks by day and fire-works and grand TV ensembles during the evening. Employees enjoy two paid days-off. It is also a good occasion for many people to take a short excursion to enjoy the beauty of the golden Fall.

Well, I made another call to FEDEX based on the responses of my fellow forum members. The Chinese holiday is 1 Oct as many have stated. FEDEX stated that the REAL reason for the delayed shipping is Apple requested FEDEX to move iMacs out of their warehouse and ship on "space available." So, according to FEDEX, it could be up to 11 days before it's put on a plane. FEDEX also said it might only be a few days. Also worth noting, I did not select Express shipping so that may be a factor. Those that selected express may not fall under the category I'm in.

Anyway, that's the latest from FEDEX, hope that helps some....

Now that makes a lot of sense. I could definately see Apple trying to save some money by doing space availabe.

I also found some information that the cut off for shipping trans-pacific from Shanghai is 4:00 PM Local (Shanghai time).

i did pay for 2 day expedited shipping so i am hoping i see it in alaska this evening and then out for delivery tomorrow.

anybody else pay the upgrade for shipping? what is your status?

Your iMac's passport is going to have all kinds of stamps. :D

This would make sense for my package at least, Mine was shipped out at 9 PM local time where yours went out at 2 something PM. Yours made the cut off for Friday and mine did not.

FedEx did not add "clear out our warehouse by September 24th, so we can count all those as shipped and invoiced in the fiscal quarter ending September 24th."

I don't blame Apple at all for doing this; it's actually makes sound business sense. It just means that FedEx delivery times for these machines is going to be longer than normal, because FedEx picked them up earlier than they would have on a normal schedule.

Mine is on the exact same itinerary as yours. I did pay for expedited shipping. It does seem a roundabout way to get it to the US. Indeed, my iMac is going to have lots of passport stamps.

It's after midnight in Japan. I have no idea where the Japan flight would land in the US. The container seems to say Indianapolis, IN. Given that I live in Los Angeles, that would be an unfortunately long and timely route.

It will be interesting to see how many hops our iMacs make before getting here.

Mine shipped on Friday (9/24) and made it out of China and is in Subic Bay. FedEx pages says "Held at Sort Facility" at 7:03 am today Phillippines time. Hopefully it will make it's way to the US soon! :D
