and the thing is, if the fedex plane did crash, tom hanks wouldn't find our computers washed up on his island; they're so heavy they would sink right to the bottom.

that would be unfortunate.

My iMac..

Like I mentioned earlier, my iMac is on its way to Japan from China. Fedex shows:
6:06 am Package status SENNAN-SHI JP*In transit
After a little searching I was able to determine that SENNAN-SHI is related to the airport Kensai (KIX) in Osaka Bay. Apparently the airport was build out in the bay. Pretty cool that my iMac gets to visit such a cool place. I'm just curious when it will get to Anchorage. I don't see any direct flights on that flight tracker from KIX, so I'm guessing it will have to make another stop somewhere in Japan before heading to the states..

Of course, I could be totally wrong and it could be at some other airport ;)

I didn't see anything from Osaka to Anchorage, but I did see a flight from Osaka to Memphis. My hope is that is going to go straight to Memphis, since I live in New Orleans, just skip away at that point. Looks like I missed the flight out today though, so hopefully tomorrow.

Edit: The flight is FedEx flight 18 Osaka to Memphis.

Okay this is getting ridiculous. I have to stop. Here is a press release from FedEx in 97:

I guess it wouldn't bother me so much that my stuff hadn't shipped yet had they not sent EVERY OTHER DANG THING ON THE ORDER AFTER I SPECIFICALLY SAID SHIP ALL AT ONCE!!

I mean I'm staring at an Applecare box, an iSight, an Airport Extreme, four boxes of DVD-R media, The Sims and UT2004. Instead of anything else I've got 'on or before Sep 29th 2004' on the system.

Heh. it won't let me do that many emoticons, comes back and tells me to delete some.

I mean it's not like my old iMac sucks or nothing, but come on.
Yes, Apple did that to my order, too, and several others, as well. I've had my AE and .MAC for a week, but my iMac seems to be stuck in Winnipeg...

Chinese holidays

Hi there,

I'm based in China and just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on the holiday situation here.

Today (28th) is Mid Autumn Festival. Everyone celebrates with a big dinner tonight and then has the day off tomorrow.

Friday 1st is National Day here. The whole country gets one whole week off in order to travel and shop (usually people have to work weekends before the holiday to make up for lost productivity during the holiday period.) Most offices and work units will therefore be closed from 1st - 7th October, reopening on the 8th.

Having said all this, I don't know if Apple has some arrangement whereby they are paying workers overtime to come in during this holiday period. I can't imagine them letting their plants sit idle for a whole week as they roll out this new product, and with so many people anxious to receive their iMacs.

Anyways, just for your information...

When is 'shipping' not 'shipping'?

Double drat. Just what I need. Mine 'shipped' on the 24th, only to sit around in Shanghai. It's there still. Hasn't budged for 4 days. Now along comes this holiday...

www.vfedex.com

This site has a section to view all of fedex's flights...Pretty cool!

I feel like I'm playing some type of treasure hunt game..

Heh, this is just an enthusiast website, bud. These are virtual flight simulation schedules and info. Pretty neat though all the same, I didn't know there was such a big hobbyist following for cargo operations.

I spoke with a classmate of mine and got the same story, with the caveot (sp) that service type workers continue to work during these time. Food and stuff like that. She said too that shipping would also continue. She is from Shanghai but has been living in Hong Kong for the last couple of years.

Go FedEx!

Seems FedEx was busy last night. My Mac is now in Indianapolis. With any luck, Rich, the shipping dude at work, will be knocking on my office door later this morning.

Long (but fast) Journey update

Looks like I might see my iMac today after the overnight trip from AK. I am only about 40 miles from Flint. Once it shows "on truck for delivery", I plan to call the local Fedex dispatch so they can call the driver and find out when he will be in my neighborhood. This has worked well on previous shipments (signature required).

Here is the whole trip:

Twins separated at Indy!

Oh man... so close, but I'm thinking it will be tomorrow:

Sep 28, 2004 4:10 am Held at Sort Facility*INDIANAPOLIS IN*

You are probably right, but there is a chance you could get it today. A flight to Florida would take a little longer than the flight to Flint.

As I recall, we had identical twin iMacs born on the same day. I wish you luck today. :)

Oh man, you're right! Now I'm going to be pacing around my house all day waiting for the FedEx man to deliver happiness to me. At least I have the day off from school!

Maybe mine is just not updating as well as yours has been.

Here's another flight tracker: http://www.airnavsystems.com/

Yes, virtual airlines are a pretty big thing in the simulation business. Three's even something called VATSIM where sim enthusiasts form their own air traffic control networks. I've never been into the commercial air transport side of simming, I'm more of a general aviation junkie- just get in my Cessna and buzz around the small airfields in scenic locations.

The waybill tracking says this:
Sep 28, 2004 2:13 AM Int'l shipment release INDIANAPOLIS, IN

And my individual tracking number says this:
Sep 28, 2004 4:10 am Held at Sort Facility INDIANAPOLIS IN

And that flight tracking page says FedEx has a 3:47 am flight from Indy to Orlando, I guess it didn't make it. It sure would be nice to see it today, but if I have to wait, well, I'm getting pretty good at that.

So.... who will be the first person to receive their iMac today?

I'm starting to lose patience - I ordered TWO 17" 1.6 160 HD 512 RAM BT G5 iMacs the MINUTE the store came back online at 6:30 am EST on 8/31....it's driving me crazy to hear about all these shipping units while I STILL have "on or before 9/29" as my ship date. arrrrgh.

All I have is an "International Shipment Released" at 1:22 AM - nothing after that. Now I'll have to start searching to see if there is any way it can make it to Tulsa.

My iMac followed the same path, only to leave Indy and head into Ohio after a stop in Romulus, Mich. I expect it to be delivered today.
