Well, I guess it makes sense, since NOLA and Houston are 'close' to each other, eh? ;)

I noticed that the tracking for my waybill# seems to have stopped in Subic Bay as well, while the individual iMac seems to have moved on. From what I've seen, it looks as though those that got their notices on Thursday got their iMacs today, so hopefully those who got their notices on Friday (is that when you got yours?) will get theirs tomorrow.

Just a little longer until FDX18 leaves Osaka for Memphis; hopefully our tracking will say ours are on the plane. (Though it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see that stage until the iMacs are "on truck for delivery.")

I did receive mine on Friday as well. Here is the first day for my iMac:

Future delivery requested*
10:16 PM

The big difference I see on mine compared to many others is the "Future Delivery Requested" and wonder if this is the space available others have talked about I can only imagine this is what is holding ours up. Either that or we keep just missing the next flight out. Maybe tomorrow, I read a FedEx press release that says they have next day delivery from Osaka to the US so hopefully we will be on today's flight out.*

flight tracking

And that flight tracking page says FedEx has a 3:47 am flight from Indy to Orlando, I guess it didn't make it. It sure would be nice to see it today, but if I have to wait, well, I'm getting pretty good at that.

how did you access the "flight tracking" page to determine various flight schedules from indy???

SWEET

10:08 AM, Rich, the shipping guy in my office is carrying my new Imac into my office. I knew it was here as I saw it on the Fed Ex guys cart in the lobby. Been very busy but I can confirm that the BT KB and mouse are in the box and you do NOT also receive the wired versions.

While waiting for my iMac...

Well, I sold my PC - just built over 5 months ago and we're using our daughter's PC (a 5 year old machine) as our main Internet-connected system now. There's no true video card and it's slow even on our cable connection. I tried putting XP Pro on it but it dragged it to its knees (worse than dial-up). I could put 98 on it but then we loose the ability to lock the PC so our kids won't get on the Net without us knowing about it. So last night, I installed SUSE Linux on it. It's a little snappier on the Internet now, e-mail is up and chat is working - if I could just get our printer to work...

All this while we patiently (used simply for effect in this sentence) wait for any hint that our iMac (ordered on 9/20) is shipping. It's been a few days now since my credit account has received a reservation for the purchase amount but still no actual deduction... sigh.

I bought from a reseller here in the UK. My ETA is 7 business days from now...we'll see...

Would you mind telling me the reseller's name, as I really want one of these iMac's and it would be amazing if I can get one in 7 working days :D

Thanks,

Jeff, have heart. Buying the new iMac is one of the best decisions you've ever made. Did you do a BTO or stock configuration? If stock, maybe you could consider going to a local brick and mortar reseller and get more instant gratification.

Mine was here when I got to the office. Unfortunately I have some work to get out so it will be later tonight before I can take it home. I did take it out of the box and set it next to the aluminum 23" I use at work - a nice pair - but then put it back in the box without turning it on. That was the only way to try to work!

My delivery schedule was:

*9:35 AM Delivered *TULSA, OK*
*8:53 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery *TULSA, OK*
*6:32 AM At dest sort facility *TULSA, OK*
*4:01 AM In transit * INDIANAPOLIS, IN*Departed location*
*1:22 AM Int'l shipment release *INDIANAPOLIS, IN*
Sep 27, 2004*
*5:41 PM In transit *ANCHORAGE, AK*Departed location*
*12:35 PM In transit *ANCHORAGE, AK*
4:57 AM In transit *SUBIC BAY FREEPORT PH*Departed location*
*1:43 AM In transit *SUBIC BAY FREEPORT PH*Departed location*
*1:20 AM In transit *SUBIC BAY FREEPORT PH*
Sep 25, 2004*
*9:31 PM At local FedEx facility *SHANGHAI CN*
Sep 24, 2004*
*11:30 PM At local FedEx facility *SHANGHAI CN*
*2:10 PM Picked up *SHANGHAI CN*Future delivery requested*
*2:09 PM Left origin *SHANGHAI CN*
*12:49 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx; package not in FedEx possession *

Left Origin only means it has been picked up at the factory. :(

I have to admit that after it arrives Anchorage FedEx moved pretty fast as it was delivered 12-13 hours after its arrival there.

No doubt that FedEx is feeling a lot of pressure to get truckloads of iMacs into the hands of happy customers and resellers. The problem seems how to fit more freight onto planes than there is space. I have feeling that things are being shifted from one airport to another when there is space.

Good luck to those still waiting. Your iMac will show up soon.

I didn't. Somewhere earlier in this thread there were some links to some flight tracking web pages. I plugged in FedEx, Indy and Orlando to see what I could come up with.

There you have it. Enjoy!

I think if you go through this thread, no one got shipping notices last week until the later part of the week. ... no one has been able to find a common cause.
possibly the fan control issue?

over the weekend i read a few things on the fedex website about the freight service apple's using:

BANGKOK, September 2, 1997 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) today announced the first cargo flight to span the globe. The new "Around-the-World" flight will significantly reduce transit times to the Middle and Far Eastern regions and signals the introduction of the first regular express transportation service to Mumbai, India.

The new flight will originate in Indianapolis, Indiana, and continues to Paris, France and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to service Middle Eastern customers. The flight then continues to Mumbai, India; Bangkok, Thailand; Subic Bay, the Philippines to serve Asia Pacific customers before returning to the U.S. through Anchorage, Alaska.
our big airbase in subic bay was closed down in 1992, following local opposition and a volcanic eruption. it took a fairly short time to convert the site to an air freight facility - partly because of the demand - the location is "on the way" from nearly every manufacturing center on the pacific rim of asia, from indonesia to taiwan, and the size of the facility (it was the largest US airbase in the pacific) allows very effective packing of the planes.

the subic bay "freeport" made this direction distribution service possible - put the stuff on a pallet, stick it in a container and put it on the next around-the-world plane. it's an airborne conveyer belt.

anyway this is why the expedited shipping here is a little strange. there are no service tiers for "international priority direct distribution" - it's 2-4 business days door-to-door, by 10:30am, depending on pickup and delivery locations. maybe apple didn't plan to use this method of shipping everything. or (more likely), the online store has presets for shipping. anyway either the people who paid more ought to get the difference refunded or the rest of us got a really good deal. :D

Yes, here's hoping that we both get on what I believe is FedEx 18 from Osaka to Memphis today, even if the tracking doesn't reflect that for a while!

Where are the pics?

Alright kids... where are the pics and stories about your new iMac? Its been four hours since most of you received your iMacs this morning and those of us who are still iMac-less need something to keep us going!!

:)

New set up is easy and smooth

The whole set-up process took about 45 minutes. If you have BT with wireless KB and mouse, start with those instructions first. Install the batteries but leave them turned off until you are ready to turn on the iMac.

The iMac will then recognize them and you are off and running.

The Mac to Mac transfer said 6 hours when I started, but it actually only took about 30 minutes (26 GB from a G4 450 PowerMac). Very smooth transition. I checked a couple common applications and they all worked well and started up quickly.

I didn't have time to post the photos before needing to return to work. It'll have to wait until tonight.

The 20" screen is wonderful - no dead pixels that I can see.

Thanks for the report! I seriously believe that mine will arrive tomorrow. Instead of refreshing the FedEx page I'm refreshing my district's web site to see if they are going to cancel school again tomorrow.

I also do not have any dead pixels on my 20" and the fan does run constantly but it is not loud at all. :)

Pics will be up later this evening!

My only complaint is that my box was seriously damaged when it got here. The whole bottom is almost totally ripped out.

I remember when Apple used to put their boxes in a box so the real box would be damage-free when it arrived. My PowerBook G4/500 came like that.

Come to think of it, I had to wait an extremely long time for my PowerBook to get here too!

Thanks for the report, Andie!

Congratualtions on receiving your new iMac!

And good news on no dead pixels. My PB had 3 when I got it so I hope that was my bad luck with Apple products for the year.

I was also worried about the condition of the box, with all the handling these guys are getting I figured they would be in pretty bad shape.

Don't have a digital camera here, I still use film and chemicals in my darkroom!
I've got to say the set up process was flawless. I took the back off the machine and added more ram in about 30 seconds! And it was so easy to use the bluetooth accessories right out of the box. I was smart enough to have all my IP/DNS, smtp etc.. numbers handy and in very few minutes I was online and getting new email.
Apple really have figured out how to create a winning user experience with what used to be such a cold, intimidating technology.
The case is like a jewel box, so well made it looks and feels beautifully elegant, not necessarily in a feminine sense but like a finely crafted machine.
I'm glad I held my AAPL through all those dark days 'cause I really think the computer world is in for a big surprise.

I ordered a BTO (160 HD and 1Gig RAM). I know I can always get a local store to add the RAM but they couldn't swap out the hard drive.

Question for those in the US who already received their iMacs and were also chronic trackers:

Right now, the scan for my iMac shows that it Left FedEx Ramp at 21:08 Shanghai time.

A Federal Express flight 90 for Anchorage departed at Sept. 29 02:14 and is destined for arrival at Sept. 28 14:10 (Alaska time).

is it possible my iMac is on this flight and the tracking page just hasn't been updated to show it being in transit? Have others of you experienced a situation when it left the ramp, but you didn't get any updates on its whereabouts until it had already transited to North America?

Thanks for your help.

Well I'm in the UK, ordered on the 03.09.04 est ship date on or before 01.10.04 - only 3 days left to go before it's late now! I really was hoping it would be much sooner.
