Doh!

FedEx attempted delivery this morning, but I was out. I was surprised, because it was in Winnipeg yesterday, and I had standard shipping. So anyone who had their iMac in Winnipeg today will probably get it tomorrow if they are in a major center.

Anyway, I phoned FedEx, and since I won't be at the delivery address tomorrow morning, either, they'll let me pick it up at their depot tomorrow. :D

Hey MacinDoc, I live in Toronto and my iMac is in Winnepeg right now. Here's what I have so far:

Sep 28, 2004 1:33 pm
1:33 pm Package status WINNIPEG CA Released for Delivery
1:26 pm Package status WINNIPEG CA Package available for clearance

What does yours look like? How long did it take to ship yours (in total days)? I would be pretty pissed off if I paid $45 extra for expedited shipping for nothing.

Think it depends where in the country you lice as to where they fly into - they all go through TNT's hub in Liege - and then onto a UK airport.

My iBook came into cardiff airport and then by road to exeter when I got it - and my iMac flew straight into exeter airport!

Would imagine that they try to ship it to the closest airport to you!

Well I live 2 minutes from Gatwick airport but my previous Apple orders all flew into Stanstead - not sure why.

Memphis, Baby, Home of Elvis

Departed, that is, at 3:45 p.m. Central Time (Tues. 9-28) I assume, or 4:45 EST, I think.

Anyway, power and phone service restored to the cabin in rural North Florida, so it's fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches in celebration!

You're alive! Glad to see everything is ok and that you have an iMac on the way!

Dude, It's NOT a Dell

And you, you're still kicking! Apologies for off thread folks, but I need to ask Finrock: still got your roof?

The Computer Moves Closer...any suggestions on how to trash this PC?

Maybe, strip everything off, and load CPM, tell it to run my lights? heh

Nah, burn it with the other hurricane debris.

Welcome back Gatorron!

Glad to see you have once again weathered the storm.

And man you are making me hungry.

Yours will be in JAX in no time. Mine still has one big leg left to Indy form Anchorage.

Yeah, my apartment did just fine. I was one of the 250k without power here in Pinellas county for about 28 hours. Lots of trees uprooted, lots of debris and lots and lots of flooding.

Back to the topic at hand: we're both getting new iMacs tomorrow!!

Power woes

KJ: still no power at work. No one was acting, so I jerked a 250 kW generator from the landfill today, transported it 30 miles. Tomorrow, I'll install it at the Public Works compound...where, believe it or not, the've had no backup power since the utility crapped out Sunday. Major damange to transmission line. Fell of 26 concrete poles and crushed a pickup truck.

I do not want to sound callous, but it is kinda fun, in a technical sense.

If I'm successful, myself (and about 100 others) will have power tomorrow, beating the utility by at least two days.

First post

from my new iMac G5. Been on for about 20 minutes now and no fans have kicked in. Had it running in my office. just a screen saver to show off my new toy and never heard them turn on. Apple may have a few sales there. Skipped the full set up just to make sure it worked. Upon start up, paired with mouse and then keyboard.

Too damn tired to take pics or install RAM or transfer stuff over from old Mac. Sat in traffic for 2 hours for my 19 mile commute; thank you remnants of Hurrican Jean.

Screen is just awesome, maybe a bit too bright but it is too close to me as I haven't moved other computers off desk. It is also huge. Booted up and it recognized my Airport network instantly.

System feels super fast and its on Automatic. Just switched it to Highest. Will listen for fans to start. Just ran Exorcist trailer full screen and not a peep from this puppy.

So far my only complaint is that Internet access seems slower on my .b Airport network than my previous Mac which was wired. Probably because nothing is cached yet. iTunes launched in an instant but the iTMS was slow. I'll blame that on Apple and not my new iMac.

That's all for now.

1st Delay email?

So it happened, I got bumped

Ordered a IMG5 20/1.8/512MB/160GB/SD/BT/AP/B within the first hour of the things appearing on the Apple Store on the 31st. My shipping date was on or before 28/09/2004. I got the 'sorry' email below, which is confusing since they appended two emails together!

Who knows when it's going to get sent now

Apple are pretty crap in my book now, as a side note the PowerMac G5 2.5ghz/6800/30" that I ordered end of July still hasn't turned up and is now estimated to be 15th October.

No problem at all, I have plenty of time for that project.

And speaking of projects, you have a nice one going on. Should be fun hooking that thing up. And you could be waiting on a truck from Texas or further to come fix your power.

Sounds like a bunch more of us will be getting iMacs tomorrow, hope I am one of them. :D

Anyone else on this plane?

Sep 28, 2004 3:10 pm Left FedEx Sort Facility ANCHORAGE AK

It looks like the iMac is only a couple days away from Pennsylvania, and I am biting my nails with anticipation.

I hope I am, but my tracking still says it's in AK. But I trust the FedEx tracking as far as I, uh, well, as much as I trust the Cheat! ;)

I'm hoping (and almost expecting at this point) to get a blast of updates late tonight or first thing tomorrow saying it's been through Indy or Memphis to Houston and it's now on the truck.

I'm not showing any movement either, but who knows with this tracking software they have. I too think there will be updates tonight and the next one could very well say 'Arrived at sort facility. Indianapolis'

Now I think I may miss the delivery unless it gets there real early, I now have meeting at 9:30 :(

Hey Saminator - I'm in Toronto as well. My mac is stuck in Memphis right now - did yours go through memphis?

What did you get? I have a 20" BT 512MB otherwise stock. But I picked up a second 512MB stick from crucial. Can't wait :)

Some Pics ... finally

Here are some Pics. It took me some time to size them.

I added the 2x1GB Crucial RAM, it was very easy to do.

Good luck to everyone on your much anticipated deliveries.

Expedited shipping

Macro_girl: Did you order expedited shipping?

Since you ordered first day -- same configuration as mine -- you deserve to get it sooner than 10/8.

I, too would be p.o.d, especially if you ordered expedited.

How many have done so? I did.

Thank you so much for sharing! Say, what do you do with your Mac? I see a mixer and monitors, what kind of music stuff do you do?

I expect to document my out-of-box experience tomorrow afternoon and post them here for everyone to see. Thanks again!

Hey MacG, my mac arrived at Memphis at 1am today, then arrived at Winnepeg at 7am, then cleared customs at 2pm. I am not really sure if it's actually in Winnepeg or still at Memphis. With my iPod order, the same thing happened, then the tracking said back to NY, then to Mississauga, then to me (a 4 day trip). Based on my experience, the ETA is next monday (shipped last friday), which is exactly 6 business days. I see no reason why FedEx or Apple would ship it any earlier than the expected date.

I ordered a 17" with BT Keyboard/Mouse and that's it. I got a 1GB stick from OWC for $220 US, and $20 for FedEx next day 10am shipping.

Mac for Music

I am primarily a singer (classical to pop) and use my Mac for audio sequencing and recording. Softwares include Logic Audio and Digidesign ProTools. It's mostly a hobby for fun and diversion, but I do sing for a small chamber chorus which performs throughout the region. Otherwise, I simply organize my iPod playlists for my mobile activities like biking and traveling.

Additionally, my 15 yr.old son is a very accomplished french horn player (hence my name) and I usually produce his audition CDs (ProTools/Mbox and Toast) for Interlochen Arts Camp in northern Michigan.
