is it possible my iMac is on this flight and the tracking page just hasn't been updated to show it being in transit? Have others of you experienced a situation when it left the ramp, but you didn't get any updates on its whereabouts until it had already transited to North America?

It's possible and maybe even probable that your iMac is on the way. The only question is which plane it is on? Could go through Subic, Japan or head straight to Alaska. There are more iMacs coming out of the factory than FedEx can handle right now so there is a lot of shifting between places, looking for a spot that will be open across the Pacific.

At least it is getting out of China, which is the first major step!

Scot,

I haven't been following closely enough to know: are orders destined for the UK also taking off from Shanghai? This being taken care of by TNT?

I hope yours gets lift off soon!

Yep, they come from shanghai - keune & nagel (i think that is what they were called!) ship it from china to luxembourg, and TNT bring it onto the UK from there.

My schedule seemed right behind yours coming to Oklahoma City but when yours left Customs mine got held.........Killin me!

12:50 am Arrived at Sort Facility INDIANAPOLIS IN

12:35 pm Arrived at Sort Facility ANCHORAGE AK

Mine is also stuck in INDIANAPOLIS IN. If you are in California, there is a FedEx flight to Oakland at 3:30 pm INDY Time. Hopefully mine and yours will make it on that flight. Fingers are crossed.

one flight out of tokyo to anchorage just landed (flight 80 arrived at 12:02 AM alaska time) and the other is about to land (flight 24 due in at 12:10 AM alaska time)...

...i keep hoping that those two are carrying our imacs!

Mine is stuck there as well. Any idea when a flight out to NY is gonna happen? The anticipation may kill me before tomorrow comes with my imac.

'Shipping' to UK

That's right. They come in to Stanstead from Luxembourg and, in my experience, take about 2 days to make it from there to their desination. Except that mine has now been stalled in Shanghai for four days. This is obviously some strange usage of the word 'shipping' that I wasn't previously aware of.

Below are the flights to the Newark FedEx Hub:

Indianapolis, IN Federal Express 3709 09:17 PM Planned

Indianapolis, IN Federal Express 3787 10:02 PM Planned

Good Luck:)

I missed the delivery guy by 7 minutes. No, I'm not mad. What are the chances of it being redelivered today?

Not sure about Canada, but down south it is not very likely that they try twice in one day. If you miss the delivery you can go pick it up at the FedEx office after around 5 or 6 o'clock. Just bring the slip the driver left on your door and ID with you.

TO ALL PEOPLE STUCK IN NARITA-SHI JP

has anybody had any updates on the fedex tracking page or by contacting fedex international or ipd division? i called once this morning and was told that it should see some movement on it today so i have been waiting...here it is about 8 hours later and no updates so i call back...i speak to another lady who tells me she has no new updates and that the last entry she has was that it was put into a container and should ship soon. she said there is a chance that it has already left (one of the two flights out of tokyo to anchorage) but just hasn't been scanned...

i wonder what the chances of this actually are? i thought that they were scanned going on and coming off? i had hopes of it getting somewhere with possible delivery tomorrow but i am really starting to doubt that possibility... :(

That and there should be a phone number on the slip too, they'll tell you when he's due back etc and you go down and grab it.

Think it depends where in the country you lice as to where they fly into - they all go through TNT's hub in Liege - and then onto a UK airport.

My iBook came into cardiff airport and then by road to exeter when I got it - and my iMac flew straight into exeter airport!

Would imagine that they try to ship it to the closest airport to you!

I ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION...

Ah yeah, you're right about that. Actually, thinking back, my current iMac came via the Hague or somewhere in the Netherlands to Stansted. The delays during shipping then were nothing like as bad as the current ones, however.

Is there anyone here who has got the information that their computer was booked on to a flight on the 28th Chinese time?

Yep, but I also haven't got a clue what's happened since. As I'm off to Florida tomorrow, for two weeks, I won't be seeing it anytime soon :(

I hope TNT keep it at the local depot until I get back!

Indy or Memphis?

USA!! :) it's hit the states finally, now in AK. After anchorage, does anyone know where it will go if it's headed to NH in the end?

Thanks for your help.

could very well be...mine is coming thru sacramento too, shows it in indy since 03:01 thias morning, yet 2 planes have left indy to oakland 2day...one is still in the air. my bet is the fedex tracking is slower than windowz security patches
:)

back to Michelle Shocked

My iMac is in the US!! I can't wait for it to be in the *continental* US, but being on this side of the date line and in the US is a big hurdle.

For those of you keeping track, mine was in Osaka. Tracking never said what it was doing there except "in transit." I had no idea what was going on between Subic Bay, Osaka and what turned out to be AK. It just appeared at the next point majikally. kjgnola is yours still with mine?

Hopefully it'll make the rest of the trip as fast as it did for most of you and I'll be setting it up tomorrow. [and I'm still hoping that all of those who still haven't gotten their shipping notices get them ASAP :D]

The Dateline

Got to love the dateline and how FedEx tries to deal with it.

These are the last two entries on my shipping status.

I guess the bright side is it is in the US, so it should be here tomorrow.

Now I really don't want to go to NYC for the rest of the week.

Looks like it Joe Mac, I thought for sure they would be on that plane headed for Memphis right now as I didn't see any planes going from Osaka to Anchorage, and since Blue's was in Narita and now in Anchorage maybe they all went together???

Like you, I am just happy they are on US soil. :D

Got my 17" SuperDrive/BT/250gb today, added my own RAM to make it a gigabyte.

The screen is gorgeous - at full brightness it's a bit too much for me, and not a single dead pixel. Performance is amazing even on Automatic, I did some little bits of work in iMovie and it just hauls right along.

But there is a problem. It's loud. The fans run pretty much all the time and seem to never shut off again, even if the system is left idle for an hour. Putting it to sleep doesn't make a dent in it either, they start up right away when it wakes up again (even 30mins later). I called Apple about it and they had a "spiel" ready to read to users complaining about fan noise, essentially to the effect that yes, it's a quiet computer, but use makes it hot, there's not much space in there for airflow, and it will turn on the fans to keep from overheating, etc. AppleCare was sort of helpful about it, listened through the phone to the sound and said to keep note of how long it takes for the fans to shut off over the next few days and to call back if they still just keep running. I have an old Beige G3 laying around here that has quieter fans, frankly.

But to be honest, I wish I could hear even the *fans* right now instead of this percussive giant-rain-droplet crap from what's left of the hurricane. Folks in Florida have all my sympathy, I can't even stand the feeble aftermath of these storms let alone imagine what the full fury must be like.

WHOA, the fans just shut off, finally, on their own. That's a good sign.

I've had FedEx shipments do that, too. This time, I got lucky and had no "PM" shipments on the other side of the line [Note to FedEx: Can't you just use GMT internally and convert to local time per line? Ah well.]

When I ordered the iPod from Apple a while ago, going into Canada, I wasn't allowed to pick it up from FedEx office because Apple forced them to not allow pickups and that it be delivered to the final destination with a signature.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen with the iMac. But chances are the same thing will happen again.

My iMac just cleared customs at Winnepeg, so hopefully it will arrive in 3-4 days from now (and this is expedited shipping).

Me too. Goes to show you. Yesterday I focused on all these different websites to try to figure out if it was going to make it to my house today (so I could rearrange some things to be able to focus on the new iMac), and for all that checking and refreshing every 5 minutes, it just sat in Japan.

Today I don't check, and there it arrives in Anchorage.

Don't you love how FedEx keeps you on your toes? "Package in FedEx location" could mean that it's sitting in the location (this was true yesterday). It can also mean "been on a plane for 6 hours on the way to the US", as was the case today (no update to status between "Package in FedEx location"-Japan and "Arrived at sort facility"-Anchorage.

Bluelemons, I'm going to do us both a favor and refrain from refreshing and trying to figure out which planes it needs to get on today to make it to my house tomorrow. That way, maybe if I just hang out in my bathrobe tomorrow morning with a cup of coffee in my hands that it will have a better chance of arriving on my doorstep before 10:30am.
