Bye bye, Shanghai

My iMac has just left Shanghai, after sitting in the airport for 5 days. Admittedly this is not quite as bad as British Airways, but it's still pretty hopeless for what Apple and TNT term "Express delivery". I hope the 'puter's in good nick. Still, it could be worse... the thing could be delayed there for the duration of the Chinese holiday. Now, does anyone know anything about forthcoming public holidays in the Grand Duchy...?

Not sure how many of you are having this problem, but I had to stop using the waybill tracking number. It seems to have stopped updating in Indianapolis when the international shipping release occured. Strangely enough, the time stamp on that shows that the shipping release on the waybill happened when my package was two hops away from Indy, and one hop away from my local hub.

Speaking of my Mac, the last scan was two hours ago as it was heading for my local hub. Based on previous FedEx experience, I should see this darn thing today. I can't wait, but at the same time I wish it would hurry, since I have things I need to do and don't want to miss the delivery attempt. Ugh.

This would be completely normal as the waybill number, from what we have surmised, is the tracking number for the pallet. So once the pallet is broken down, then it would stop. Its destination probably showed Indy as well.

Several of us had their pallet broken down in the Philippines so the number stopped there.

Good luck on getting it today.

Hey, does anyone know how long it takes from being told that the iMac is on the flight bound to the Netherlands from Shanghai, to it actually delivered in the UK?? Anyone who can answer this question would be a great help! Hope everyone who has their new iMacs is really enjoying them!

I am hoping mine simply missed a scan, man. I just spoke with IPD, I'm still in Indianapolis as far as their system is concerned. But he told me that if there were others in my area, like yours, that came in on the same Anchorage flight then we probably got tossed into the same container and it is possible that mine will just show up this morning.

Fingers are crossed.

That is too bad, at least you have a good sense of humor about the situation. Your wait is almost over.

UK Delay

Unfortunately this is probly a sign of things to come :( If you get a chance, give em a call and see which new date they meant to send. Though it's probly irelevant since they can just keep amending it as they miss.

I can't believe they're missing outside ship dates for those of us who ordered 8/31 & 9/01. Especially since we know for a fact they've been shipping all kinds of orders that came in as much as 15 days later (orders in both sizes & with all varieties of configurations including BT). I didn't mind so much waiting till the 30th if need be. But to miss that date is a joke. If I get a delay email that says I'm waitin maybe another 10 days or so I'll be very tempted to end my Apple experience right here

Just got off the phone to Apple, my IMG5 20/1.8/512MB/160GB/SD/BT/AP/B ordered on the 31st August which should have shipped by 28/09/2004 is now delayed until 8th October. Has anyone in the UK got a similar/same configuration yet? My shipping method is FAST SHIP EMEA, which I think is normal for UK orders.

Posting from the new iMac. It's almost too big... ;)
So happy and sad all at the same time!

We'll need to keep this group together after we're all viewing the forums on our sexy little iMac G5s. We'll create a graduating class of the iMac G5 release, our own little club. I'll miss overloading the FedEx tracking system with everyone...if the darn thing would just get here already!

I was thinking the same thing! Only 1.5 hours until I dismiss my students and rush home to my new iMac!!

BTO Ordered 9/20 - Shipped today!!!

Finally - although I know a few of you have ordered your BTOs earlier than I did. I'm happily tracking my order now - it's in (you guessed it) Shanghai for who knows how long. But that won't stop me from refreshing the FedEx page!

Odd thing though, my credit account has not seen the deduction yet - still shows the expected amount on reserve though.

on the move again

My iMac has just departed Shanghai, after being there for 2.5 days (since Fedex started logging its progress).

Hopefully I don't have the same delays others have been reporteing at the other East Asia ports or on its way to New England.

It would also be nice to know that it's on an MD-11 cargoliner or something similar, and not the Wright Brothers' plane or it may take a very long time to get here! :D, but hey, if it were on a Boeing 314 I'd be jealous.

Mine flew Monday from Shanghai and arrived on the Thursday at my house!

OK, so my beautiful iMac has arrived as well! Way ahead of schedule! Fedex website had told me it would not arrive until Oct. 13, so I almost had a heart attack when my doorbell rang this morning! To those that are waiting, have faith! It'll be worth the wait! Oh, and the feature where you can connect the new iMac to your old computer via firewire to transfer files, etc.... easy and so amazing! :D

Did all this occur without you getting an email, or status change on Apples website??

Why me? What does this mean?

Happened to me too. It just means it didn't make it to the next flight on time, perhaps because it was held up in customs. In any case, it will be delivered tomorrow. Mine was.

MINE IS HERE!

had it shipped to work so really all i had time to do was...

1. take it out of the box
2. unwrap it
3. plug it in
4. start it up
5. wipe drool from mouth
6. smile because no dead pixels
7. again, wipe drool from mouth

i will play with it more tomorrow...because it's back to work for now...and off to the morrissey concert in d.c. tonight.

hope everyone gets theirs soon...if not already :)

Hmm. I'm off to Hungary in the morning so I'm rather hoping that mine will be delayed for a few days until my return. The next public holiday in Luxembourg is All Saints' day. Unfortunately, it's not the time of year for the French air traffic controllers... what are the chances of a baggage handlers' strike at Stansted?

Static Delivery

Mine was picked up by Kuene + Nagel at 8pm last Friday and seemingly has not moved since.

How long does it take to get from Shanghai to Holland and then onto the UK?

Have been waiting 3 months now for a Dual 2.5Ghz, so more waiting is not what I need.

Also tried to track with Kuene + Nagel today and they could not find the reference number Given by apple.

Going slowly crazy

Finally Moving from Shanghai

Well, my BTO 20" iMac finally shows "Left Fedex ramp." I ordered 9/16 and it first showed up on FEDEX on 9/25. Not exactly sure what "Left Fedex ramp" means, but at least the shipping process has really started. If I read the posts correctly, it should only be about 5 days before it hits my hands.

I ordered 20"/SD/250GB/AE/1GB(2x512MB)/WKB/WMS via Educational/Apple Store. Original promise date was 10/14, so it appears I might have 1 Oct if I'm really lucky. :)

As expected, I woke up and found a note from FedEx telling me that they had attempted to make a delivery. :( Oh, well, I'll get it tomorrow if I'm lucky. The wifey calls and wants me to take her to lunch, so I get ready and leave. As I am passing the shopping center at the beggining of my neighborhood, I see a FedEx truck unloading at Radio Shack. There are several trucks for this town, but I figured I'd take a stab at it. "Excuse me, did you leave this on my door? Or was it another driver?"

"That looks like my handwriting. Let me see it. Oh yea, I remember you. You had that great big monitor."

"Actually it was an entire computer."

"Cool. All in that little box?."

"Yep. iMac G5. Just came out."

"Thanks, you saved me trip back over tomorrow."

Dammit. Why not "Wow, can I come over and check it out while your wife is at work? We can look at internet porn and get all worked up and I'll be so hot I'll forget how ugly you are!"

I'm diggin' this. Too bad I have to leave for work in 30 minutes.

I'm not sure if the questions regarding the wireless mouse and keyboards were ever answered. I turned on the computer before I even got the mouse and keyboard out of the box. A window opened with little pictures telling me how to put the batteries in my mouse and turn it on. I did so, and after what seemed like an eternity, it recognized my mouse and allowed me to proceed. Somewhere else along the way it did the same for the keyboard.

I was in Cincinnati over the weekend and stopped at the Apple Store to see an iMac in person. I was not very impressed. It was ok, just not the work of art I had expected. I must say, it looks much better outside the Apple Store environment. I love it! Happy waiting to those still waiting! It's worth it!

Canadian Orders filled?

Has anyone from Canada received their 20 yet? I ordered 31-Aug and harass my local Mac store daily, but to no avail :( . Don't know if BTO's are being filled faster directly from Apple or not. Any update from any fellow canucks would be appreciated!

iMac and Logic Express 7

Finrock said:
What great timing, Apple introduced new versions of Logic today! How is this on topic? Because either of them will run just dandy on my newly-delivered iMac G5 :)

Finrock, this is far out, I mean, the delay of my iMac caused me not to buy the version 6. This must be a sign...

The new version has some advantages... eg. new revisited exs sampler, platinum verb, integration of Apple Loops and Garageband plugins. And now Emagic is out of the picture and Apple runs the show. I'm pretty mellowed now.

By the way: "Available beginning October 22 in the US and Canada". And since I live in Denmark - yet another delay may cause something good or...

Congrats on your new iMac...
