Just got off the phone to Apple, my IMG5 20/1.8/512MB/160GB/SD/BT/AP/B ordered on the 31st August which should have shipped by 28/09/2004 is now delayed until 8th October. Has anyone in the UK got a similar/same configuration yet? My shipping method is FAST SHIP EMEA, which I think is normal for UK orders.

IMAC20/1.8G5/1GB/160G/SD/APX/BTWLKB ordered on 03.09.04 est 01.10.04 - I'm expecting a delay email now after reading your post :( - shipping is Fast Ship EMEA which as you say is normal for UK

Shipping to Canada

Has anyone from Canada received their 20 yet? I ordered 31-Aug and harass my local Mac store daily, but to no avail :( . Don't know if BTO's are being filled faster directly from Apple or not. Any update from any fellow canucks would be appreciated!

Hi, I also ordered Aug 31st via the Apple Education store for a 20". Order still hasn't shipped though it says "on or before the 30th" of this month, so I hope its soon.

I told off Apple support about their silly shipping policy of not allowing pickup from the Fedex depot. (See here for the gory details.) So I'm sure they scheduled delivery for roughly December to put me in my place.

Even when it does ship, I'm having it sent to my semi-retired father in-law in Red Deer, Alberta as he's the only one I know who is mostly home during the day. I'm in Calgary which is 150kms from Red Deer, so Apple's stupid policy isn't very convenient for me.

I'm patient though. I know I'll get it eventually.
:)

Dammit. Why not "Wow, can I come over and check it out while your wife is at work? We can look at internet porn and get all worked up and I'll be so hot I'll forget how ugly you are!"

I'm hoping either a) you're female or b) the driver was? :D

not true. seen responses where people have done this, including stopping a driver after the fact further down the road

Don't blame Fedex. Blame Apple. See my previous post above and blog entry. You only get two tries to have Fedex deliver it to you and then its "return to sender". Fedex is just enforcing the rules that Apple sets.

Believe me, I tried to have Apple explain the reasoning behind this policy, but I was told to essentially get lost and live with it. So my computer isn't even being delivered to the same city as the one I live in. Great customer service Apple!

It has arrived :)

Finally my iMac has arrived. The FedEx guy shows up at 2:00pm PST.

FedEx Man "You probably thought I wasn't gonna show"
Me "I was hoping" (big smile)
FedEx Man "well here's your screen"
Me "No that's my computer" (bigger smile as officemates look to see what's going on)
FedEx Man "cool, I bet you'll be playing alot of games on that" (jealousy flows across his face)
Me "Naw I'll be doing mostly video"
FedEx Man "really cool. enjoy"

Setting up the iMac right now. Love the wireless keyboard and mouse, and no dead pixels.

Two people in the office are ording their iMacs right now at the apple store online.

Now I gotta go install that 2 gigs of memory.

For those who haven't received theirs yet. It's well worth the wait hold in there, and good luck.

Hello there! I'm in Vancouver too ... order mine from Simply Computing - a 20" one and the only BTO option was extra ram - but I believe they were going to put in some less expensive aftermarket RAM - not from Apple - so basically the iMac was to be a stock 20". So far no word on it's arrival - and I do bug them regularly :) ... they have 17" ones that have come in but not the 20"s. Will keep you posted and if you could do the same.

Mine was delivered today...I'm currently at school so I'll be seeing it in around an hour's time, when I get home after doing some other stuff.

Thanks to everyone in here for keeping me entertained during my wait...10 days from ordering to delivery, not too bad Apple :)

Another question

Hey, hope everyone is doing well. Can anyone tell me what fast ship EMEA means as reagards a time frame from getting from the Netherlands to the UK, and does it mean that the iMac will come by plane to the UK? Anyone who can answer this will be helping me loads, thanks! :)

Mine's coming from Mac Station. They've apparently got 31 orders for the 20's but have seen none as yet. It seems the 17's are everywhere - the 20's must have been at the back of the truck!

Will update when I receive mine.

I think that means that it is flying into East Midlands Airport - alot of courier companies use East Midlands airport as it is in the middle of no where (at least half hour from major built up area's) and because of that doesnt have any night time flying restrictions so planes can land all through the night (is one of the few in the UK that has this ability!)

Did all this occur without you getting an email, or status change on Apples website??

I checked FEDEX last night before bed and it said it was in Alaska, but the estimated delivery said Oct 13, so I figured it would take that long. Then this morning I checked and it said it was in NJ, and then literally moments later my doorbell rang. It was really strange but you won't hear me complaining! :D

I picture is of a 20" next to my powerbook G3 14" (i think?).

I must say I am loving every bit of this new iMac. It is so much better than I expected. I've been running it all afternoon and haven't heard much noise from the fan, and it screams. Much faster than my G3 and G4. I even forgot to set the processer speed to highest till just a few minutes ago, because I didn't notice any slowdown or spinning beach balls.

One thing to note: I had the machine on about 15min before shutting down and taking off the back. This machine gets really hot inside. When I went to install my ram, I was surprised at how hot the whole machine was. Also be sure to place the back on properly, it was a litlle difficult trying to place the back on again. The back is heavy with the stand attached.

How is everyone liking their new iMacs? I'll get pics up as soon as I figure out more of iPhoto. It's taking me a bit to get everything situated. :)

I think I have to call Apple about my fan. My BF is telling me that it makes too much noise. I'm coming from a really bad noisy craptop so I don't really notice the fan noise the iMac makes. However he is convinced it is too loud. I'll call Apple and see what they say about it.

Unbelievable

1st post, 1st time w/OS X.

Zero dead pixels. 20" screen looks like an acre of prime real estate. Brightness perfect.

Wire KB awesome. But I'm addicted to roller wheel mice w/2 buttons, so will get one.

Dock is cool. Can't figure out how to get rid of things once they're on the dock, though.

Lot's to learn. Does anyone remember Finrock's method of changing the G5 speed?

Thanks

Found it

Finrock told us this, way back:

Check the setting on your processor speed, in the energy saver frame. Default is automatic, change to highest.

I though Safari was slower than Mozilla on my P3. Switching the speed makes a noticeable difference.

I've had 2 evenings with the new iMac and am now both happy and relaxed - no more worries about FedEx!

General impressions are pretty good. It's faster than the PB I use at work and the screen is just as good as the 23" aluminum display that is attached to the PB.

Because I work all day on a PB and because I transferred everything from the PB when I set the iMac up it is basically the same experience - just faster. I have another 512 of memory coming and will see how things go when the memory is at 1 gig, but I'm a happy little camper.

It's jsut nice not to worry about FedEx!

Hmm, maybe I'll see mine this week afterall. After Fedex said it spent 2+ days in Shanghai, it just showed up in AK.

yep, i have it!

i can confirm...went to local fed ex, showed them id & my tracking#, and they gave it to me...i'm using it rat now...so i don't know anything about fed ex not giving them to you. all i know is i got mine now...will start playing real soon.

only thing i noticed so far is the fans, when running, give off a rather high pitch "lite buzz"...kinda distracting, but we'll see how it goes. screen is perfectr, and the BT kb & mouse was a piece of cake. AE found my network (after i reconfigured the router for the macx id) rat away.

damn thing is beautiful!!!! :p
