My status was 'flight booked' on 27th and has just changed to 'departed direct' (perhaps my complaints to Apple UK haven't gone unheard!).

Hopefully both our imacs are finally on their way in the same aircraft (after sitting for 5 days at Shanghai). I think 'departed direct' just means that its on the plane and that the flight is going direct to TNT in the Netherlands, not via any intermediate stage.

Many thanks to the earlier poster who provided the link to the Kuehne & Nagel tracking page - without it UK customers would still be in the dark about the status of their shipments.

"On FedEx vehicle for delivery"
At least a few of us are having a personal holiday today :D
orders 9/14, shipped 9/27(free shipping), arriving 9/30

Technically about 75 - 100 people that ordered BTOs AFTER I did already got their machines so Apple can take their technicallity and kiss my butt! :)

And that would include me! I assume you're only counting those who said they received their BTOs on a forum or such.

Hasn't moved from fedex yet, i think their system sucks as far as updating real time. Other things I've tracked look dead for a day or so then next day they've hopped halfway around the world with dates from the day before.

Yep, their system is strange, esp. before it gets to the states. But unless there's some hangup like customs, it seems they move them pretty consistently from Shanghai to destination. Hopefully you'll see yours on Tuesday, unless there's a delay because of that holiday.

And now, what you've all been waiting for, Pictures.
Even the FedEx guy had trouble carrying it. I call the second picture "Old Pet, New Pet (get rid of the old!)" And you can see these forums in the first pic of the iMac with the iBook.

Ordered 9/20 - slight movement in Shanghai

Does anyone know what it means when the package status changes from "Left FedEx Origin Location" to "Package Status: Package in FedEx location?" I ordered on 9/20 and received my shipping e-mail yesterday. From what I gather from the posts here, should I expect to receive delivery of my very first Mac around the middle of next week? Does FedEx work on Saturdays?

Okay... I need to slow down a bit... slow, easy breaths... it'll come - it'll come. Strange thing though, even though it's in shipping status, my credit account doesn't see the deduction yet. In fact, the reserve that Apple once had on it is now gone! Am I going to get my first Mac free??? :p I *did* e-mail Apple once about them sending me a free iMac so I could make switchers out of all my PC friends and family... NAHH! That couldn't happen.

ordered: 6 september
"shipped": 23 september

received: 29 september

20" BTO - 256MB RAM, 250GB HD, SuperDrive, Airport, no BT.

it looks great, runs great, goes fast. it passed all software and hardware tests and is smooth as silk with 2GB memory. (xbench says 155+.)

my official complaint is that the setup migration software says it works with any firewire-capable mac, but of course that would exclude just one kind of mac, B&W G3s, which is what we had. so after i made that complaint, i found out that 100baseT goes about 4x faster than firewire target disk mode... at least with this old mac on one end of the wire... so being forced to move 120GB over ethernet was a good thing.

(i can't believe this is the whole computer. goodbye wires!)
I wish I'd thought of that - I transferred my files via iPod. Similar config to yours, except BT keyboard and mouse, and similar Xbench scores.

Only problem I have is that iTunes on the iMac isn't recognizing some of the CDs I've ripped.

Still hard to get used to that massive screen!

Hang in there, Trekkie, it shouldn't be long now, and well worth the wait!

Well, the journey is almost over.

Order placed 9/16. Original promise date OOB 10/14. First sign of delivery was 9/25 pickup at Shanghai, CN. Even then, the expected delivery was 10/13.

As of 9/30, the iMac is within a few hours of my home. I may see iMac today, 9/30 or 10/1 latest. By the way, I guess I complained a lot with Apple and they ended up giving me a $100 break on an iPod--nice gesture.

Below is the track:

My order: 20"/AE/1GB(2x512MB)/250GB/BT/Wireless KBD/Mouse via Apple Store Edu.

Well, as of 1000 this morning (9/30), my 20" iMac has arrived. I forgot to mention I did not pay for expeditated shipping. In summary:

1. Ordered BTO iMac/20"/SD/AE/1GB/250GB/BT on 9/16
2. Original estimated delivery 10/14
3. In FEDEX facility in Shanghai for shipping on 9/25 (last Saturday)
4. Next entry in FEDEX, 9/29 Left Fedex Ramp in Shanghai
5. Delivery to my home 9/30!!!

Once the iMac left Shanghai, it took a little over 24 hours to make it to my doorstep. Now, I can't wait to get home and load it up.

Interesting!!!

Fedex says shipped from shang Hai.

Invoice in my emails says:

Well, I have this thing back at my house now. One dead pixel, but otherwise it's looking great. I'm reinstalling the OS right now.

I'm new to the whole Mac experience (a long-time Windows power user). Why are you reinstalling OS X on a new iMac? Also, I've read that you can "massage" a dead pixel back to life again.

Well, crud. I have to leave for Las Vegas tomorrow at 1400, so I guess I'll just swoop by work, take it back home, look at it for a few minutes and then leave for the next 4 days! :(

LOL Matthew, we are in just abou the exact same boat. Mine was also held up in Indy, and now this morning it was on the truck for delivery, me excited? Well sort of. Yes, my brand new beautiful iMac is in New Orleans, but I am in New York :( I don't get home until saturday afternoon! Oh the luck.

Can't tell you how close I was to cancelling this trip.

oh ouch! yeah since i wanted to dig through all the OSX library and system folders, comparing old and new folders side by side, i needed a direct connection.

Only problem I have is that iTunes on the iMac isn't recognizing some of the CDs I've ripped.
if it can't find them because they were in a different folder, you may need to add them to the library again.

Still hard to get used to that massive screen!
ah room, so much room ahhhhhhh

I always do a fresh install whenever I get a new Mac. I just don't like having all the pre-installed Classic compatibility and such on there. I'm a real neat freak. Also, I partitioned it so that instead of one massive partition, I have a root partition for Applications and Home and then a big old 100GB + storage partition.

For most people the pre-install stuff will suit their purposes.

I'll try to see if I can't bring it back to life. It sure is lovely though, all the same.

HAHA! Me too. I was calling America West airlines yesterday asking how much it would cost to change my itinerary. About halfway through I realized "Oh man, I'm changing my plans for a computer!"

Absence makes the heart grow fonder! :p

It's arrived! Fedex just dropped it off at my office. And it's a beaut. Now I gotta plow through a full work day before I get home to play. Will the waiting ever end!!!

Ordered on 8/31, Shipped 9/25, Delivered 9/30
20" BT 512MB 160GB

For those of you still waiting - have patience, it will come and it's so worth the wait. Everyone at the office was blown away by it!

I said the same thing when it was brought into my office. After the 10th person said to hook it up, I DID! My assistant ordered a 20" today. Ordered it with one 512MB stick. Will order a Crucial 512 stick like mine. We will then trade to get like DIMMS and a 128 bit RAM bus.

They have a dude who watched people who refresh their delivery status page too often. He then inserts these annoying messages to play mind games with you. HTH.

Yeah, if I hadn't had to pre-pay for this hotel, I would be at home playing with mine right now.

The good news is I just spoke with FedEx and requested that it be held at the center for pickup on Saturday, so I know what my first stop will be once I get back to town!

Trekkie, real glad, but probably not as much as you are, that yours finally shipped. Now hopefully it will get a a plane today and be there for you on Monday or Tuesday!

Jedi Matthew - Did you know Classic is not installed on these new iMacs? Maybe the first for Apple. They do include it on the 'extras' CD in case you need it, but I hope not to. I have several Macs that had pre-X as their default OS anyway, so I can always use one of those.

kjgnola - sorry to hear yours got held up. Kind of like when you go to the airport with a friend who is on a different flight and one of you gets delayed while the other takes off.

This machine gets better and better as you use it! I was doing some work this AM, I had Remote Desktop Connection to connect to the POS PC to view web pages in Windoze (and at 800x600, it barely took a quarter of the 20"!!), and several web browsers open as well as Freeway, MasterJuggler, and everything else. The iMac just breezed through it all without a pause, and I had the screen real estate to do it all and see most stuff at the same time. I even took a screen shot and sent it to my wife at work because it was so cool. :D

My est ship date was on or before 01.10.04 and I was really expecting a delay email after seeing a couple of UK people have had theirs delayed, but today I came home from work to find my shipment notification email!!!!! WHOOOT

Now for the tracking everyday!!!!!!!
