Package data transmitted to FedEx; package not in FedEx possession

Jedi Matthew - Did you know Classic is not installed on these new iMacs? Maybe the first for Apple. They do include it on the 'extras' CD in case you need it, but I hope not to. I have several Macs that had pre-X as their default OS anyway, so I can always use one of those.
Oh, I did not know that! I didn't even bother checking! Oh well, I needed to repartition anyway. But it is good to see that Apple is letting up on Classic more.

Okay, everyone, I'm leaving for Las Vegas now! Obligatory pictures of my iMac will be put up on Monday. Thanks for the wonderful support group y'all have been.

Ciao!

What did you think that hole in the back of the unit was for? (is this post too over the top?)

:D i have it, first post from my iMac, slightly disapointed that target disk mode doesn't work with other drives in my powermac  is there some sort of problem? The iMac is so great, well worth the wait...its much bigger than i expected.

Apple has notified FedEx that the unit is ready to ship. FedEx will likely pick it up with all the others at the close of business.

I have 2 day shipping but I appear to have been Shanghai-ed. Received an e-mail on the 9/28 that it had shipped so 9/30 I am looking for a package from the FED X guy. Check tracking it's still in Shanghai. So I call an apple rep and get them to check since I have "2 day Shipping". She says very non-confidently that I should get it tomorrow. If I do not then I can ask for a refund of my 2 day shipping. By the way I ordered on 8/31/04 6am CDT a 20" 250 with 1G BT KB & M

1. the apple rep is wrong, you'll get it probably monday/4 or tuesday/5 (no saturday delivery).

2. "2-day shipping" refers to inside the region, i.e., from one of apple's local warehouses. you will very likely get your new machine within 2 days of its clearing customs in your country. you shouldn't ask for a discount because of this - instead you should ask for a discount because right now everybody is getting the same delivery service and you paid extra for something they're giving away free. (ask for your money back after you get the computer, though.)

3. i wish i'd got the bluetooth. well, actually, i wish everybody would give up on bluetooth and use wi-fi instead.

now using new new Mac...

got it yesterday. i am still fumbling with OS X... it's so new to me that even the most basic things are taking me a while to get down...

interesting to note... my estimated date of arrival was 10/13/04. this was quite early, eh?

i'm having problems with connecting my new iMac to my wifes old iMac via Airport. if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions i'd love to hear them.

NOW using:Emma Frost (G5 1.8ghz iMac. 256ram 250gig hard drive)

FYI, I've had the crap surprised out of me 4 times now where FedEx has shown up on Saturday with a regularly shipped package

iMac arrived, and it's amazing!

Well, mine arrived yesterday, and I'm absolutely thrilled. I won't go into detail, as there are already many, many reviews out there. I'll just say that this switcher is really happy to finally own an Apple.
Also, the 20" screen is flippin' huge compared to my old 17" CRT. I love it!

Just a quick note, remembering that there is store in NYC, Soho that is. I ran down to the store to check it out, since mine is waiting back in NewOrleans for me.

WOW!! That thing is big and beautiful, fast and nice to use.

Now I really can't wait to get home.

unless things go wrong this service is 5 biz-days from the shipping notice to delivery.

maybe you're in a spot where a lot of saturday deliveries are made, so they just throw your stuff in the same truck? that's easier for them.

Don't know, but there's been a few times now where I'm in my 'I don't want to be seen in public' outfit and haven't taken a shower at 2 in the afternoon when someone beats on the door and hands me something from Apple so I'm not going to ever go 'what the hell are you doing here' and ask :D

Looks like a stock unit. You definately have other alternatives.

Yes, target disk mode doesn't work with Macs that didn't originally come with built-in FireWire. I also heard it doesn't work with Blue and White Power Mac G3s. I suspect the problem is that the ROM of these Macs doesn't support FireWire, and you have to set up target disk mode on startup, before any software support can be loaded.

One other user made a connection via the Ethernet ports. Would that work for you? It's apparently much faster, too.

Given an order date of 8/31, and given what we know about the variety of configured orders that have gone out (particularly those placed at a later date) can anybody give ryme or reason for this??? Customer servicewise, this is pretty bad show

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that given that this a European shipment, there might be a problem with the higher voltage power supply units that we've been reading about (ie fan clicking/whining problem) which are shipping in the intn'l units and Apple may have had to go back to the supplier. The supplier may need a good amount of time to correct the problem. I could be totally off base...just my 2 cents. :)

BTW: this is my first post...awaiting delivery of a IMAC20/1.8G5/512/250G/SD/BT/APX/LL ordered on Sept 7 and shipping OOB Oct 6

(fingers crossed on no delays) :(

Oh jeeze I'm so sorry. That really stinks, I would be flaming mad. Have you called Apple to see what is going on?

A good many people are having some fan issues making a whining sound so maybe they are trying to rectify that before they send more out.

I got back from WestWorld, and they said that it may be a week before it ships. They're calling me AFTER it ships out of China when it reaches... Texas?!?!? I live in Victoria BC, so it'll go right over my head if it passes through Anchorage!!

Here's the kicker though: They got my hopes up, saying that someone with my exact config + bluetooth had cancelled an order that had already shipped. I was all for paying the extra 70 for bt but then I realized that it was only 1DIMM of ram; bumping the price up by $500. :( That sucked.

I picked up UT2004, but they had Knights of the Old Republic there (still in the shipping box). I went for UT, but i'll get KoToR later, because I can sneak UT on to my sisters computer and play it there until mine arrives.

I also picked up Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and London Calling at A&B Sound. Crazy.

Why can't my iMac ship now :(.

nope it is a Canadian order so it is the same as a US plug, it's a standard 20"imac, and yes i called apple a couple of times they say the samething thier is delayes and that is it.

Wow! This is insane. I hope this is just an issolated delay. :(

Can you post your exact configuration.

Home at last!

Well got the new toy home and it's awesome. 20" screen is HUGE so nice to work with. Very much worth the wait.

I know people are very keen on memory specs for the iMac, so I thought I would share my experiences.

As you may know, if you have two matched sticks of RAM, the mac will operate with 128 bit addressing of the memory. I'm pleased to report that the 512MB stick I got from Crucial matches the 512MB memory that came with the iMac.

Here are the detailed specs of the OEM ram if you want (this is for the 512MB stick - other sizes may be different):

Hynix
PC3200V-30330
512MB DDR 400MHz CL3
HYMD264646B8J-D43 AA

Key thing to note is that the stock RAM is CL3 which is what the Crucial memory is also. I ran the memory test and it came back reporting 128-bit access.

Woohoo!! Now I have the fun of moving everything over from my (gulp)XP box and ditch the windows world!

Hope all of you waiting get yours soon. :)
