I'm wondering, is this problem for international customers the fault of Apple for dropping the priority to ship to non-US customers or is it the fault of the logistical company responsible for getting these things on your doorstep?

I would guess that this is an Apple issue as my order (and others) havent even shipped yet but still show as 'open' status.

What I dont understand is the potential explanation for it.

They have the computers and are shipping them to others who ordered later.

So are we left waiting because we've been 'lost' by the order fullfilment software system or because of some more subtle reason that singles us out for special treatment ?

Something like the sum of all the letters in our second names (in upper case ASCI code) adding up to a prime number.

Horray, iMac is in Europe with TNT!

Just to let all you guys know that my iMac is now with TNT, hope everyone's orders are all moving forward nice and quickly. TNT have said that I will definitely have it on Tuesday!!

Somebody tell me this is an error. My orginal delivery date from apple was October 13....Now Fedex says this.

Ship date Sep 30, 2004
Estimated delivery date Oct 22, 2004 by 6:00 pm
Apple usually quotes estimated shipping dates, not estimated delivery dates. FedEx's delivery dates are notoriously inaccurate. Mine was estimated to be delivered (standard delivery) on October 14, but it was delivered on September 29 (would have been Sept 28, but I was not home).

The info Apple sent me with my order confirmation stated that standard delivery usually takes 6-10 business days. From what I've seen posted on this board and from my own experience, it usually is less than 6 business days, but there have been some exceptions. I haven't noticed that expedited delivery has been any faster for anyone.

It's finally over

Hi Everyone,
My 20 inch with wireless Keyboard and Mouse is here! The thing is awsome. It is worth the wait. Now I get to spend the rest of the day playing with it.

Thanks to all of you for keeping me company while the machine was built and shipped.

Ok, can anyone tell me how long it took once the below occurred???

Left FedEx Ramp/SHANGHAI CN 10/01/2004 21:31

Within 3 business days

It arrived today and is currently sitting on my desk at work. I'll probably keep it at work for a week or so until I get the home office set up.

The 20" screen is huge, clear and bright. No dead pixels that I noticed. It seems pretty quick, but I never owned a G3 or G4 to compare it to. Still getting used to OS X, but I love the expose and finder search feature.

The wireless keyboard is sweet, but the wireless mouse lasted all of about 2 minutes before I got frustrated and plugged in a USB scroll mouse I had laying around. The wireless mouse did have an odd lag to it, but the Apple setup had me install all the software updates as soon as I fired the machine up and it cleared up the problem.

It will probably be a while before I get the most out of this machine, can't wait to get it all set up in the new office.

And oh yeah, the first thing I did was pop in Star Wars IV. DVD looks great on the huge wide screen.

The sound wasn't the best I've heard, but pretty darn good for built-in speakers. I didn't mess around with any settings yet either. When I get it home I'm going to airport it to my stereo anyway.

Yeah the only problem I have with the wireless KB and Mouse is that then you findyourself wishing you had a wireless tablet, firewire hard drive, ipod, everything. Cables make it look so ugly. ;)

At least that is what I envision when I sit in front of my desk and stare at the Applecare, iSight and UT2004 boxes.

really starting to hate Fedex's tracking page.

Mine too :) I phoned TNT earlier and they said to phone them again on Monday morning (they're open from 0700hrs) and check because there is a slight possibility that it could be out for delivery Monday rather than Tuesday.

Nope, still waiting for my shipped email :(, on or before 11 Oct,

Well, it has been about 36 hours since I got the shipping e-mail from Apple and it appears that my iMac is still on the ground.

The Fedex status hasn't changed from "picked up" since 1:30 PM Shanghai time.

On the top of the Fedex tracking results next to the word "status", it says "in transit". Odd description considering there has been no apparent movement.

Trekkie, I believe our iMacs shipped at about the same time. Does your status say the same thing as mine?

Trekkie said:
Exactly the same. We have almost the same configuration, though I got 512MB more RAM

After I ordered my computer I read about the performance benefit of having DIMMs of the same size in each slot, so rather than add one Gig to the second slot, which I originally planned to do, I went ahead and ordered 2 Gigs from OWC. I thought about changing my iMac config to 256MB, but that would probably have set back my ship date.

When my "precious" finally gets here I'll try to sell the extra 512MB stick.

I just wish Fedex would get off their @#%&* ass.

I just got the waybill of my apple invoice, the only difference between it and my tracking is on 10/1/04 at 11:34PM Shanghai time it says 'at local fedex facility'

Which to me says it's sitting there on it's ass while the largest population on the planet is partying.

I didn't get anything like a waybill notice - just my first "shipping" e-mail from Apple on 9/29 AM. Since then, if we count all of 9/29 (which I do), it's been 3 days since and FedEx still shows:

Oct 1, 2004 11:24 pm
Package status
SHANGHAI CN
Package in FedEx location

Sep 30, 2004 10:41 pm
Package status
SHANGHAI CN
Package in FedEx location

Sep 29, 2004 2:03 pm
Left FedEx Origin Location
SHANGHAI CN

2:03 pm
Pickup status
SHANGHAI CN
Future pickup/delivery requested

My original e-mail from Apple stated OOB 10/20 for shipping - now Fedex is saying I should receive it by 10/18. I'm happy it's going to arrive before the expected shipping date but I'm a little disappointed as I was hoping to get the same speedy shipment that others here have boasted about. I refuse to put a "frown" face on my posts yet though - still hopefull that something will budge soon.

iMac G5 mini-review / pics

As promised, I wrote up a small little review of my iMac G5. I've posted it here:

[ sorry kids, had to remove the link b/c my web host said my cpu utilization was too high ]

I hope everyone is enjoying their Macs!

you are implying that all of our iMacs have shipped. I take offence. I take offence at those who ordered ages after me and got theirs shipped immediately. What is that?! I take offence at apple too for favouring all other markets except Australia.

Where's my iMac apple? Where my shipping notice? :(

Absolutely stunned

Nice review, Finrock.

I'm adjusting to a double technology shock:

1. Apple hardware, particularly the iMac 20" G5. Everything about it is fantastic. I'm even adjusting to the one click wireless mouse -- I'll probably still get a BT 3-button, but I'll wait awhile. Coming up from a 15" Sony laptop -- let me compliment Sony on a nice machine, just the wrong OS -- the size difference continues to blow me away. Right now, I've got Mozilla sitting beside an open Excel document, both bright, huge, readable. For me, these are vast improvements.

2. Mac OS X. I'm still baffled by much of it, but slowly learning.

I haven't enjoyed computing this much since I bought my first, a two floppy drive, 8-bit, 64K Kaypro, at the start of the home computer age in 1981. This is even more exhilerating. :D

Hurrah, mine has shipped at last! I ordered it on the day of release, so I've been waiting a little while - we got an email telling us that there was unprecedented demand, and that the shipping date had been pushed back, but it's in the hands of TNT now, so I just have to sit back and wait. Should be here in the not too distant future :D

soo.. i saw the 17 and 20 side by side today.. i have to say, I prefer the 17 because of it's smaller size, but the 20 seems to have a much better viewing angle (esp. vertical) i may spring for a 20 anyway but damn, it is huge, i dont know if i could get used to all that white..

With the 20" you really don't notice the white at the bottom at all. At least I don't notice. I thought it might be a problem too but that's not the case. The 20" seems more balanced, IMO. :)

Ahhh, the 20" really isn't that big. I've had mine for a little over a week now and it doesn't even seem huge anymore. Actually I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't seem big now. Especially since I saw a 23" at the store... Don't get me wrong I'm still very happy though, it just doesn't seem huge.
