Well, someone's working in China because they just scanned the pallet there for the third day in a row. No movement still.

How did you get that information?

My optical mouse doesn't have any lag at all. What if you switched mouse pads? I know that might sound silly but some mouse pads have more resistance that others and that could be causing you some lag. :)

Fedex Update

I just got off the phone with a Fedex international rep. She said that Apple and a lot of other companies swamped them with large quantities of cargo in anticipation of the holidays.

Apple's shipment consists of 248 items all waiting to be loaded on a space available basis and that they don't have the manpower or the equipment to keep up with the amount of stuff that has to be moved.

Beyond that, she coudn't say when there might actually be any movement . Her recomendation was that I should check back on Monday.

When I mentioned that I paid for expedited shipping, she said I should take it up with Apple.

Also, when I asked her for the waybill number, she said that my tracking number was the waybill number.

I guess I should change my signature back to "Sitting in limbo".

On the Apple Invoice email I got was a 'waybill number' that was different from my tracking number. It has all the detail. My regular tracking number sent in the shipping notice and on the store home page has a 9/30 entry and that is it.

This does two things to me.

1) Makes me frustrated more than anything at Apple. Not like they didn't know the holiday was coming, and could have said something. but calling and screaming and yelling will only raise my blood pressure and be a waste of time. It's not like I can go somewhere else and get a customized iMac.

2) I'll never, ever, ever pick FedEx as a shipping option if I'm given a choice. I've shipped a lot of stuff internationally over the years and never have I seen/been given such incomplete and totally useless information on what is going on. Even the post office is more helpful

My ship date is oct.5th, but seeing that the people in China have a week long holiday, i'm saying that is not going to happen. How can anything function being off for an entire week. Maybe they have robots working for them that will build my machine and ship it to me. I mean it's the base model Imac come on. PLEASE APPLE SHIP MY COMPUTER ......

Thanks, Trekkie. I got two different e-mails from Apple. I didn't see that the numbers were different. The first six or so digits were the same on both numbers.

Maybe its time to get glasses.

Are we talking about a holiday in China or are they already preparing for our upcoming holiday season? This situation occurs yearly, so I don't understand why they would not be prepared. :(

No, look back a few pages and it's explained what two holidays basically give the entire country of china about 5 days off or so.

Estimated General Ship Times?

I've been following the thread but it's a bit too over the map for me to get a clear idea... if I were to order an iMac tomorrow, what would be an approximate wait time for delivery? (I live in Canada, BTW)

I know that different people have been having wildly different experiences, some getting theirs in a week and others being told they'll have to wait two months, but is there any type of general wait time? And is it getting shorter?

I got the wife to agree, but I have to wait until Oct 15th to place my order. :) So I'm wondering how long shipping will likely take after that.

Glad to see all of the positive feedback from people who got theirs so far, it really helped push me over the edge. Thanks! And it's looking like a big hit, I've only read about it's popularity and how great every one thinks it is (well, except for Mary Enderle, the paid Microsuck shill who never even used one - but that just made me want one more). :D

Might as ask us what the weather will be like next week! :D

It appears that if you are ordering a stock system you'll get it quickly, and if you magically order the right upgrades, you'll get it quickly.

But heaven forbid you get the right combo of options that takes a month to build.

Though honestly, I'd guess that if you are buying it at or after 10/15/04 that things might be getting better.

Unfortunately the 'I'm in Canada' is a bit of a wildcard. I've not seen much success yet in Canada in the postings here, though most of those are because they went through a reseller of some kind.

The question is... how many? Maybe Apple really did stockpile a ton of them over the summer. But they've already said supplies will be tight.

Excuse me does anyone where I can get a G3 Imac from? I have some old school Mac games that don't work on a G5.

Thanks

Stuck in Shanghai since 9/29

After being in Shanghai for almost a week since 9/28 I have finally made it to Alaska

Perhaps there's hope then that my order (placed 9/20 and "shipped" 9/29) will end up in Alaska soon. The celebrations in China should be nearing a close - time for everyone to get back to work! :)

Check Ebay, but for something closer to home i'd ask around.

Someone has to have one lying around.

Update: I'm still pining for my mac, but my recent purchases of London Calling and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band are somewhat easing the pain. I say 'somewhat' because my discman is gibbled now and only plays the sound out of the right headphone. The albums are amazing...

Also, I snuck onto my sisters dual 866 G4 tower and installed UT2004 (which took like half an hour  never seen an install take that long, or be that huge [5.5 gigs - bigger than the 4 gig hard drive on the comp i'm using right now] for that matter!). I set the resolution to 800x600 and all the details to 'medium' with extra additions like decals and stuff off and it's perfectly playable; all of the network pings are at 10 or 11, and it runs absolutely perfectly without a hitch. I did this because when I get my I want to have amazing graphics on it so that it'll thoroughly impress me no matter what the video card can handle :D. It's psychological.

whoo!

Ordered BTO Aug. 31 (Apple Canada Online Store), fixed Apple's unauthorized change in config. Sept. 1, estimated ship date Sept. 30, actual ship date Sept. 24, 1st FedEx delivery attempt Sept. 28 (wasn't expecting it), received Sept. 29 (standard shipping).

To anyone who's got their BTO iMac with Apple memory upgrade, did the extra memory come already installed, or did you have to take the back off and install it yourself?

Thanks

M

If you order a RAM upgrade, it comes installed...

Now I am in Memphis so things are continuing to move

"Shipped" 9/29 - STILL in Shanghai!

September 29 through October 3rd all say "Package in FedEx location" for my iMac. Delivery in Seattle WA is expected on 10/18 they say. Naturally, I'm hoping to receive it earlier than that.
