Criswel and others who were in IN (customs)

I'm really happy that you folks are seeing your iMacs moving out of IN - but sadly, mine only shows "In transit" and still lists IN as the location. I live near Seattle WA and am wondering if this "transit" is by air or truck. The FedEx ETA (according to their web site) is 10/18 - I'm hoping they're not dragging their feet (I didn't opt for the two day rush). Really hoping this comes in by Friday.

woa thats fast!

my god... maybe i'll even see it tomorrow???

it already left winnipeg! it's coming to quebec yay!

its weird that I havent suffer from the "clearance delays" hummm... or do they appear AFTER the "left Fedex ramp at Winnipeg" appears?

WoW

At last, my iMac 20” arrived at my house in France yesterday.

That will teach me to BITCH to soon as I post a gripe about the design when I first got a look on the web at the new iMac but in the Flesh it’s great. Sorry Apple for doubting you !! And they even managed to get a UK spec Mac to me in France but with French power & modem cable, how cool is that !!

All the wireless keyboard and mouse worked as soon as I switched it on and the thing went strait to the wireless network and that’s it.. working.. sorry if I sound excited but I moved from Windows a few months ago with a 15” powerbook and I am still finding it odd that I don’t have to spend hours on the phone to a help desk !!!!

Now if Apple could just build me a mouse with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel (Bluetooth) then I would be in heaven.

What updates, and where did you get them from?
TIA!
Ed

Most likely when you get your iMac started for the first time and connected to the internet it will seek out updates on its own and find them from Apple. If not just go to Software Updates" under the Apple menu while connected to the internet and it will walk you through the process.

8x DVD-r & 2.4 x DVD+R9 (Dual Layer) for iMac G5 ?

Well, Pioneer is the 1st to introduce a slim slot-in 8x burner for laptops.

dvrk04slot.jpg

The DVR-K04 burns DVD+/-R at 8x, DVD +/-RW at 4x and even DVD +R9 at 2.4x. CD-R and -RW will be written at 24x. Consuming 4.8w, the drive can stop a burning process and resume it at a later time, in case of overheating, for instance.

i wonder if this will fit the new iMac G5 :D

hmm, this will go well with my 2Gb ram & 300GB Hard Drive. when my iMac finaly ships, come on apple ship my mac.

It's HERE!!

Ok, here's my first post... I've been checking this thread out for weeks -- very good information!

I finally got my iMac today, it's awesome! I'm a newbie with apple, so I'm looking forward to the whole "switch" thing. I went home from work (25 mi one way) just to be there when the fedex van pulled up... good timing on my part! Any-who, I have a question I was hoping someone out there might be able to answer...

I have a Linksys wireless modem/router. Well my iMac can see my SSID (my router) but asks for a password to connect to it. I have WEP setup on it (encryption) and I typed in the code that was generated, but it did not accept it... what am I doing wrong? both of my WinXP systems work fine with it. Please help!! Thank you!!

put a $ in the very front of the code I believe is the answer.

if that doesn't work, then it's a $ in front of each letter in the code (to denote that it is hexadecimal) can't remember which.

Good news from Apple! (regarding FedEx in IN)

I called FedEx to find out what "In transit" meant as my iMac still shows it's in IN. The rep at FedEx told me that the shipper had placed a hold on the package and that it wasn't slated to be released until their estimated delivery date of 10/18.

I then called Apple and "Jordan" first apologized for the inaccuracies at FedEx that are frustrating Apple and their customers for the past two weeks. It seems (according to Apple) that FedEx is having some sort of computer issue regarding the accuracy of their predicted estimated delivery dates. Jordon then checked into my order (which went to "shipped" status on 9/29) and confirmed that I will most likely be receiving delivery of my iMac by Friday of this week!

To further complicate the already confusing information coming out of FedEx, Jordan (at Apple) reasoned that west coast orders (such as mine) would've probably been sent from Alaska to one of the main FedEx hubs in California - not Indiana. Jordon went on to explain that the California hub's scans of these west coast bound packages were probably being reported to the Indiana hub - that the packages themselves were most likely not even in Indiana.

So, right now I'm riding on Jordan's assurances and hoping to receive my first-ever Mac either tomorrow or Friday.

I use my G3 iBook with a LKSYS WAP54G. (old stle airport card - not extreme) To connect I typed in the generated WEP key and it worked super. No problems since. But I guess now I'll need to type a '$' at the beginning?
Mehh... :)

i have a linksys wireless router and my 12" powerbook works great with it. (i use wep) if you generate a password with linksys router it will create 4 wep keys (in hexadecimal) make sure you have it set to 128-bit hexadecimal . well you could use 256-bit but i think that is overkill. and who wants to type in that many damn numbers anyway.

then when your mac tries to connect just put in the wep key. it should work no problems. it did for me, completely brain dead. gotta love apple. but you have to key in the wep key, _not_ the linksys password. that is just something used as a seed to generate the wep keys.

good luck

Earthlink Support for Wireless on MAC OS X

THANK YOU SIR! Any other neat tricks to further enhance this new experience? What happened to right-clicking to copy/paste and choose properties and such!?!? it'll take some getting used to... that's for sure.

Also, when I move the switch on the bottom of the wireless mouse, does it turn it off, or does it just prevent it from being used, thus preserving battery life?

iMac is here!!!! Display issues

Well, my new IMAC20/1.8G5/512/250G/SD/BT/APX/LL came this morning from Fedex. Took a mere 24 hours once it left China...unbelievable. It is simply beautiful...and huge. :D It is extremely quiet...No noises, clicks, heat...nada.

However, it does have one DEAD PIXEL  It's in the lower left hand corner about 3/8 of an inch from the bottom...just a dark blue/grey pixel that never changes. It's most noticible against a white screen. After rubbing it a little it seemed to fade a bit...sucks, but to be honest, I can live with it.

The screen overall does seem kinda fuzzy though (especially during opening credits to a movie)...is there any way to adjust the focus/clarity?

I'm phoning Apple, this is just stupid. My Imac's been sitting for three days in Winnipeg.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to Apple, this is normal.
They won't do anything until the 6 business days are up (Fri). After that, I get a refund and Apple will 'look into' why it took so long. Wheee.

TERRIBLE!!!

Hello ThinkingMac,
