Here's my entry for the longest delivery wait so far....

Steps 4 and 5 are because of Apple Canada's stupid policy of not allowing one to pickup machines from the Fedex depot. Overall, that would be almost exactly a two month wait between ordering and finally using the iMac. Here's wishing no one else has the crummy experience of bettering this record.

Guy

Guy - what's this policy? Convinced my father to buy one of these, and his just shipped on Saturday and is expected thursday. (Ordered 30/9) If no ones home, what happens? If he can't pick it up, what does he do? I've never ordered directly from Apple before, but their Education price beat out the University price for the first time.

Did you drive all the way to Edmonton just to pick it up? THAT'S dedication.

Also awaiting Imac 20 inch

perhaps the reseller is giving you the runaround. cause apple have been clear and accurate telling me when mine would arrive, and if i receive mine this week, like they said, then the service will have been flawless (apart from the fact that it took 4 weeks to begin with.

I ordered from a reseller in Melbourne as well back on Sept 23rd, 20 inch 250 hd and BT. No shipping advice as of today, resellers are not telling stories, they just can't get an Eta.

while i'm happy to be getting mine this week, i think it's pretty unfair that you guys have waited this long. i don't agree with apple putting it's direct customers first even if i've benefited this time. it should be first in best dressed... full stop.

It's here

Hi

I'm in Brisbane Australia - 100k outside, in fact - and my 20" CTO is ready to pick up. Hang in there. They are starting to arrive Downunder.

Rang the reseller. No 20" iMacs have hit Australia yet, and there's absolutely no word from Apple Australia about when they're likely to. Considering that I'm entering into a mortgage in less than a month; that it's been at least two months since I made the order; and since I'm unlikely to get any concessions out of Apple in return for the delay, I've cancelled my order.

There's two and a half grand off the mortgage right there. If they'd shipped 'em a little sooner, sure, but frankly, I have better things to do with my money than hang around and wait.

Fair enough. I'm now waiting due to the chemical spill. Should be here on Wednesday now....but I have a friend who has been told that he can get a 20inch on Wednesday without bluetooth if he ordered today. Don't know if the reseller is just trying to get a sale but a 2 day wait compared to 2 months is a bit much!

There really need to be more people like you that tell Apple where to stick it when they fail to deliver a product after months and months, as long as they continue to get away with it they will carry on taking the piss out of their customers. What a joke, and good for you.

I ordered one of those today from a Next Byte AppleCentre in Melbourne (just a standard 20" as far as Apple is concerned), and they said they had absolutely no idea when it would come, anywhere from a fortnight to a month... I hope it doesn't come on Wednesday tho, I have to study for exams and write an essay :) (I could've walked out of there with a 17", but seeing as I couldn't---I wasn't going straight home :)---and because I had my heart set on the ginormousest screen I could afford, I decided to wait.)

(My first own Mac! Switching from Linux; the decision was a horrible ethical dilemma solved only because I can live safe in the knowledge that my current operating system is agnostic.)

Another 20" shipped!

I ordered my build-to-order 20" iMac G5 on Oct. 4th. Four weeks later, at 1:45 in the morning on Monday Nov. 1st, I got the shipping notification by e-mail from Apple. (My "on or before" date had been Nov. 3rd, so Apple beat that by two days.) Yeah! My computer was picked up in Shanghai, China at 1:50 pm on Nov. 1st by FedEx. (No, I did not pay for express shipping.) My estimated delivery is by 10:30 am on Friday, Nov. 5th.

Details on my order: 20" iMac G5 / 1 512 MB RAM chip / Bluetooth installed / Standard keyboard / AirPort card installed.

So for those of you in the U.S. who ordered from the online Apple store in the beginning of October, hopefully yours is on its way to you very soon!

-Jeff

Yet another 20" shipped

I ordered a 20" BTO on October 4th with an OOB of November 2nd (I think). I received the shipping notification early this morning as well. The FedEx tracking system shows that the estimated delivery date is Friday, November 5th. I am finally going to get this thing. Time to start clearing off some desk space! :)

I'm very saddened by the treatment that you have received. I also remember what a busy time it is when purchasing a new house, congratulations. Hopefully when things settle down, then you can get your new Mac. :(

UK iMacs?

Hey Guys,

I'm planning on ordering an iMac G5 tomorrow :D

I was just wondering, is anyone from the UK who has ordered recently familiar with the current situation? I'm intending to get the higher spec 17" model with BT Mouse/kb for the extra £60 :)

Also, I was intending to use my student discount by using the eductional store- will this slow down the process? I dont want it to take long for them to verify the order or whatever.

I would buy from a retail store but they dont offer built in bluetooth on the iMacs :(

Thanks
Asif

Nursers, are you still waiting for your machine?

It was ordered the same day as mine was it not? (the 8th Sept).

What's their excuse? Chemical spillage............

Education Discount

I ordered mine from Apple directly (Apple store over the phone) and got my education discount. It was shipped today and ordered Oct 4th. I don't think I will be receiving it any faster or slower because I took the education discount.

Sounds to me like the reseller is just trying to get a sale. Two days -- I bloody well wish! There is no way that the reseller can meet that timeframe at this stage. No way whatsoever. I'd stake my mortgage on it. :D

Time and time zones

In case this is useful to anyone else waiting for a delivery in the U.S.:

According to the FedEx website, my iMac G5 was picked up by FedEx from the Shanghai, China factory at 1:50 pm on Nov. 1st. It looks like Shanghai is 14 hours ahead of the Central time zone where I am located, so that was 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 31st, Central time. I got the e-mail from Apple saying that my computer had shipped around 1:40am on Nov. 1st, Central time. So it looks like it took Apple two hours to let me know what my computer had shipped.

So far, the only posting on the FedEx site other than the pickup at 1:50pm is an indication that the package is "in FedEx location" as of 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 1st, which again I believe was around 9:30 a.m. Central time on Monday morning.

From other posts, it looks like it takes about two days for a computer to get from the manufacturer in Shanghai to Anchorage, Alaska, then another day to get from Alaska to Memphis, then another day to be delivered. So I hope that my computer is in Alaska by Wed. Nov. 3rd, Memphis by Thur. Nov. 4th, and New Orleans by Nov. 5th -- which would meet my FedEx estimated ship date of this Friday by 10:30 a.m.

I ordered one from the apple web store, then wanted to change my order, so I phoned. It turns out if you phone and tell them you're a university student you get a further discount off the web store education prices. I have the basic spec 17" with bluetooth gubbinz and 160GB hard disk, and I got it in about 3 weeks. It arrived a week ago tomorrow, in fact! (ordered 6th October. I can't be bothered looking up exactly how long that was.)

Enjoy your new Mac!

Andy

when did you place your order? what did you get?

i ordered mine a week ago today and i live in nashville, so hopefully once mine hits memphis, it'll be pretty short until i get it.

Andy, I ordered mine on 27th September. Ship date is OOB 17th November now.

As far as whether Apple Australia are shipping to direct customers first, I ordered mine from them direct, admittedly later than some of you.

Very frustrating

Yet another 20" BTO shipped

I ordered mine 20" BTO iMac (250GB, BT, AE) with education discount on Oct 5 with estimate ship date Nov 3.
My iMac was shipped on October 30 and reached Anchorage today Nov 1.
I did not pay for expess delivery. Estimated delivery: Nov 5,2004 10:30am

:D

Will it or won't it?

Well today is the day it's supposed to ship....

IMAC20/1.8G5/1GB/160G/SD/APX/BTWLKB/B ordered on Sept 8th. I am on my 4th OOB date and seriously fed up with the whole wait.

If it doesn't ship today I have to cancel because it won't arrive before I go away for 6 weeks.

My order status still shows OOB 23rd October so I don't hold out much hope.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you ordered it on the 8th of 09 like me and was interested having got mine ( :) sorry) to see how long it took to get a machine ordered on the same day to a different part of the world.

Andy do you have to keep rubbing it in?

The new delay email says orders are processed in the order that they are received. I think we have proof otherwise.

Hey,

I ordered mine this morning! woo! The order status is 'open' and it says it will be shipping OOB 23/11/2004. Obviously, I hope it's before :D

Strangely I haven't received an order confirmation email from Apple, although my card has been charged and my order status is 'open'. Odd.

Anyway, :D
