For me the temptation of a 32 inch is not that everything gets bigger. I know sitting in front of such a screen playing a game is pointless, your eyes wouldn't catch it all unless you are further away than a regular desk distance. But for work on applications it would be great. You could then distribute whatever you need to different corners of your screen. F. Example in photoshop you have enough room to place whatever you like of references and images you need during developing a painting (which is what I do for a living)... It would be awesome to have such a desktop. But I still doubt it would happen though.

The one good thing, is that if it is indeed 32" and does indeed include HDMI-in, then I can get the 32" LCD TV I use for Xbox off my desk.

Maybe the 32" would be too big, maybe not. I'd have to see in person to find out.

As for HDMI in, I would love that soooooo much.

I'm currently using a 32' Philips tv with my Pc (Waiting for the new iMac to convert) I'm telling you 32 is just too big for computer use.

Over in the Macbook Air forum I've seen people mention a noticeable difference in graphical performance just between 11" and 13", to use Intel 4000 for anything bigger than 15" would be incredibly stupid and I doubt it will happen. Hell, even iPhoto would lag on a 21.5" with that card. It might be 100% better than the 3000 model, but it's still Intel and still intergrated.

Exciting rumors.

32" is perfect for me. I would use it as a TV and it provides great "real estate" for video editing. If it's a problem for occasional gaming, I'd just move the monitor back a little.

If they are ditching the "smaller" monitor sizes it does make sense to me. Even people on his forum are buying Macbook Airs because they can't wait for iMac. Why? Because it provides all of their needs, and it's mobile.

I can't buy a Macbook Air. Why? Because it provides absolutely nothing for me in design or editing. Therefore, large monitor iMacs suit professionals (or gamers, etc.) who need it.

TV utility for the next iMac would be a huge/convenient thing for me and others I'm sure. Or maybe I'm just speaking as a minimalist and single male who has no money.

In regards to 32" being too big for gaming I don't really think this would be a problem at all. If the screen is too big don't run your game in fullscreen mode. Then you can have however big of window you want.

October of 2009 is "ages" ago?

The reason that there has not been an event with the iMac is because the iMac has not gotten a complete overhaul.

Wow. It's been 3 years since a Mac event and your still clearly holding out hope. You're delusional.

Hmm? Last Mac special event was October 2010. That was primarily about the new MBA.

The last iMac dog & pony show was MacWorld 2009. That was also the most recent redesign. They do shows for major redesigns.

The last iMac show prior to that was the first aluminum model, as a standalone event in August 2007. The 2008 and early 2009 models came silently in the night, just as the 2010 and 2011 models did.

Same here. For "Normal" daily usage, even the 27 is too big. For me, the current, smaller-screened iMac is just perfect.
I understand the need for larger screens for people doing more professional work, but for the home user...it's too much.

I do work in Pro Tools and Logic which would benefit from a bigger screen but I really don't want to have to make a special trip to Ikea to get an entirely new desk to accommodate a new iMac.

There was no show for the 2009 redesign, and there hasn´t been any after that either were they even mentioned iMac. I remember this very clearly, because I bought the 24" early mac 2009, and later that year, without any rumor warning before the day before they just updated apple.com with new redesigned imacs and a new mice. It was a video with Ive bragging about it, but that was pretty much it...I remember this clearly because it made my machine eel obsolete instantly.

so there hasn´t been an event were they revealed the imac for a LONG time. I can´t even remember when to be honest. And I doubt there will ever be an event again were the iMac are being mentioned. Then it would only be in a sentence were they brag about all new products being released at once.

I, like everyone else would like the new iMac to launch soon, and you would think from a marketing perspective (if the machines are ready) that you would launch those before the iPhone. Many times computers are not out of necessity and people can wait until they save up for the one they want, iPhone users don't want to wait ever. At least in my mind I would have people purchase iMacs, then nail then with iPhones to get your sales pretty quickly. Then again, I'm sure those type of talks happen all the time.

Doesn't make much sense. Surely a redesign of the iMac deserves a mention at an event, or an event specifically for the iMac. Sure, Apple's main market right now is laptops and iOS devices...but it wouldn't hurt to keep pushing the iMac either.

Yup, I fairly remember on late 2009 the redesign iMac launch on apple site, without an event.

But I remember CMIIW that lot of media / bloggers got their hands on before the launch, so on launch day they would post about their review on the new iMac, like engadget, gizmodo, etc.

I doubt the upcoming iMac will be a "full re-design", but I could be wrong about that.

Nor will it be a simple "speed bump" (Ivy Bridge CPU) and addition of USB3. I'll -guess- that Apple is planning to introduce new display options as well. No retina display as of yet, but some kind of "matte" finish screen is likely.

I believe the main reasons for the "delay" are design/manufacturing problems that are holding up approval of a final design. Or perhaps the final design has been solidified, but there remain some tech problems in production. I recall reading here on MR that there had been some problems with the new "matte" displays.

I would think a mid-August release might have worked best for Apple from a marketing standpoint, as new models introduced then could be advertised with a "back-to-school" slant. Obviously, a release "into September" cuts into sales of the new model, as most students will have already made their purchases by that date...
