but I wouldn't know how they would redesign from the current iMac, It is already the perfect design for me.

Apple's forte, and the reason they've made so much money lately, is getting you to buy stuff you had no idea you wanted or needed.

Personally, I was skeptical about the iPad.. I "got it" but I didn't think I'd use it that much. Then the wife got me one for Christmas. It hardly leaves my side.

I agree, a good design is the one that makes the old design look obsolete. and Apple always excel in that.

I also have the same judgement about the iPad (bought it just for app dev) and after using it extensively, I can't live without it.

Anyway, it looks like we have a new target date of Sept. 12 for disappointment. :)

That's how I'm starting to feel. I should have just gotten an iMac back in April when my last one died. Now I'm past the point of no return.

My friend who works "internally" with Apple's OSX software says there will be a refresh of the iMac this year. Nothing specific but he's guessing it'll be late Sept-early Oct.

There will be no more 21" iMac, it'll be a 27 and 32. HDMI input returns. Apple planned for 24" Retina but would cost over 5K so scrapped that.

He leaked to me the iPad 3 specs before it was official so I would assume he has some inside info.

Well the Sept-Oct has been mention as pretty strong rumors. No 21"..thats the part I find really hard to believe and doesn't seem right at all. As for the 24" Ret. 4-5k seems plausible.

Just thinking of a 32" iMac is making me froth at the mouth.

I would be very happy I waited if they released a 32".

Now I'm starting to imagine what magical wonderful toys I will be able to purchase is the near future.

Same here. 32" would be an awesome sight!

I believe it.

I bet this new screen manufacturing technique saves money too, allowing for an entry iMac at the $1200 price point to have a 27" screen. I hope that this thing comes out soon!!!!

There is no doubt in my mind we see a totally redesigned iMac by October 30th. But the question is, will it be a trick or a treat? (Couldn't resist :D)

I've got a 32" TV, not sure if I need to sit in front of a 32" iMac. Knowing Apple it would be 30" just to be different

Right now I'm using a 21.5 LG LCD and can't wait to move up to a 27" screen.

I would definitely buy a 32" model. It's what i've wanted for a while now. My 24" doesn't feel big at all anymore. Time to upgrade. :)

Skeptical. 27 and 32 are far too big for my desk.

Bookmarking this thread and and bumping it in October to call you out. :p

Don't know what to think of this. Can you maybe elaborate on this if you can.

I'm not quite sure myself. I just asked my colleague about it non-chalantly about the iMac because I too want one but since apple yanked the HDMI port, no dice. He had said that apple is bringing back the HDMI port...which is a win for me since thats all I really cared about. Also mentioned apple tinkered with 24 retina but way way way too expensive for the average joe

Here's hoping the 27/32 stuff is real

Can't really call me out when I'm just reiterating what my colleague said. Take it or leave it. Don't shoot the messenger

And if you think 27 and 32 are too big, I guess you haven't heard Apple and Sharp are working on a TV.

Yeah because the 21" only happens to outsell the 27" by a mile.

Apple doesn't necessarily follow norms. They create them. Perhaps 27 is the new 21:D

Personally, i've given up on the iMac for now and will get an Air and a nice external monitor. I think that setup will work better for me anyway.

I've done the same thing and couldn't be happier. I just ordered a maxee out MacBook air that I can use on the go. I'll get around to picking up a new iMac when they're released. I feel like that's the best combo to have anyway.

Hdmi input returns...:D oh yes!!!,mini has, retina has too, just output, but its normal due to their usage-category (mini needs a monitor and hooking an Xbox to a laptop doesn't make sense) ,Imac with hdmi in could be very hot letting you use next generation consoles, dvb tuners..and so on^^

interesting... if it's indeed a 32", this sharp IGZO display could be use
http://sharp-world.com/corporate/news/120413.html

and the resolution is 3840 x 2160 double that of 1920 x 1080, so it could be called retina display. but I doubt apple would use a 1920 x 1080 res (retina) on a 32 inch display.

we shall see in october then...

32" would be a dream come true for me. though I'm skeptical it will happen. I doubt they'll ditch the 21,5", there are too many hair salons and other hip shops that will fit a 27" at the counter desk :)

...october is a long wait :(

Same here. For "Normal" daily usage, even the 27 is too big. For me, the current, smaller-screened iMac is just perfect.
I understand the need for larger screens for people doing more professional work, but for the home user...it's too much.

I'm ready for a 32

i'm currently using to 27'' 1080p monitors hooked up to a Mac Mini and would jump in a second to 32''s. But somehow don't believe it will happen, would think 30 may be more realistic. But would be in line on the first day of the release if it happens. So thanks for the tip.

Uhhh I imagine with 32" I would have to turn my head to see from one end of the screen to the other. This isn't TV where you sit at least 4 feet away from.

Exactly. 27" feels like it should be somewhere near the maximum useful size for a computer monitor that's in your face.

I have a hard time believing they'd kill the 21". They'd really have no screen size between 15" MBP and 27" iMac?

.. I also hope this doesn't mean they'd use crap like the 650M on the 27" and save the juicy 680M for the 32". Then I'd have to buy a too-large screen just to get reasonable graphics.

I'm not glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought about that. :/ I really hope this scenario won't happen, but as you say, a jump from 15" to 27" seems just stupid.

Exactly. In this case size isn't everything. It's just like digital cameras with +10 MP. Unless your making a poster for a house it's just a waste of pixels.

Try this quick test:

Put your right index finger in front of you at the same distance from your eyes as you would have to your screen. Then move it out to the right, following it with your eyes until you can feel a slight (I mean very slight - just like stretching a bit) pain in the muscels controlling your eyes. That far out to the right you would probably also loose sigth of the finger with both eyes (close the right eye and it will disappear). Repeat to the left with your left hand.

The distance between your fingers is the maximum size of the screen (obviously not diagonally, but how wide it should be).

I get a bit more than 60 cm :)

The 27" iMac is 65 cm wide including the frame. So for me that size is ideal and unless I want to turn my head all the time I will have no benefit of a larger screen, but will only get either larger pixels or more power used to drive the graphics... And it would cost more :)

So I hope apple will stick with 27" or preferably make the 27" the cheaper base model and make an insane +50" iMac for those people that can't have enough square feets of screen ;-)
