Hi there,

I have a 2008 Imac that won't download El Capitan or Yosemite. It always give me the message "This copy of the install OS X El Capitan application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading." I have used a bootable usb to try to download the el capitan on the IMac. Going on some forums, I have tried out the method where you change the date on terminals to the date where the El Capitan was still active. I've changed it to 2015, 2016, 2017, and even 2018, but it still give me the error message. I have also tried using a bootable usb for Yosemite, but the error message and the problem still exists. I have tried using Mountain Lion to install it on the pc itself, but i ran to a problem where it said my wifi is timed out, and it requires a username for the wifi, which seems odd. I was wondering if there were any alterantive solutions or if anyone has come across this problem too. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

waff has a good suggestion above.

Apple's official page:

Non-Apple source you might try:

You could also download the free utility named "Mist" which can download just about ANY OS version.
Get Mist here:
(download the .dmg file)

More questions:
Do you have a working Mac to use?
If so, what do you have, and what OS is it running?

Did you try to create a USB flashdrive from which to boot the 2008?

Apps that can create a bootable USB flashdrive:
- Diskmaker X
- Install Disk Creator
BOTH are FREE.
