Perhaps, just maybe, people are worked up because they use the esc key? Nah, that couldn't be it, could it? What do you think, Einstein?
As a developer I use the esc key hundreds, if not thousands of times daily. I was worried about having fiddly sliders for brightness and audio, but I was ready to deal with it. However, if there's no physical escape key, that might be the nail in the coffin for me.
Sure, I guess it's funny if you're completely incapable of understanding that some people rely on a key that you don't use. To the rest of us who either use the key, or understand that there are people who use it, it's not humorous.
And this minority can still use Esc, in soft-key form. Another portion of that minority will remap the key. Only the remainder of that tiny minority are worked up because they are already dead convinced they can't do without the physical Esc key.
For the record, I use the Esc. I use Vim. But I'm ready to change my work flow a tiny bit if need be because I'm not hard wired to be attached to a physical Esc, knowing there are equivalent (or even better) key alternatives. That's what I find funny: people so attached to this, not willing to change.
