Perhaps, just maybe, people are worked up because they use the esc key? Nah, that couldn't be it, could it? What do you think, Einstein?

As a developer I use the esc key hundreds, if not thousands of times daily. I was worried about having fiddly sliders for brightness and audio, but I was ready to deal with it. However, if there's no physical escape key, that might be the nail in the coffin for me.

Sure, I guess it's funny if you're completely incapable of understanding that some people rely on a key that you don't use. To the rest of us who either use the key, or understand that there are people who use it, it's not humorous.

And this minority can still use Esc, in soft-key form. Another portion of that minority will remap the key. Only the remainder of that tiny minority are worked up because they are already dead convinced they can't do without the physical Esc key.

For the record, I use the Esc. I use Vim. But I'm ready to change my work flow a tiny bit if need be because I'm not hard wired to be attached to a physical Esc, knowing there are equivalent (or even better) key alternatives. That's what I find funny: people so attached to this, not willing to change.

I've yet to meet someone, that doesn't hate the rMB keyboard, in the flesh. Have several customers, and acquaintances, that hate it, and regret their rMB purchases, because of it.

The majority of people having issues w/ the rMB KB grew up before schools stopped teaching typing, and also use their keyboards for quite a bit of data entry. (Invoices, Purchase Orders, call reports, scientific papers, etc)

I'm glad the Magic KB works for you, I know a few that use it, but dislike it, and only put off replacing it with a 3rd party KB due to the lack of better wireless options. (quite a few superior USB options, that I've found for customers willing to give up the wireless KB) Please understand that the Magic KB does have a bit more key travel then the KB on the rMB. They aren't entirely the same. I know people that hate the rMB KB, but are ok with the Magic KB. To someone that types a lot, even that slight difference can seem like allot, in daily use.

The point though, is that this is Apple's supposedly "Pro" laptop, that will only come with a KB that many users, that actually type, will hate.

And, yes, I'm sorry, but I call that, not giving a damn.

Dude, I got a 12" MacBook last week (just to see if I could get away with using it, or if I'd need the Pro for my job.) I love the keyboard. One of my studiomates also loves the keyboard on her brother's, who also loves the keyboard. We all think it's a huge improvement. Faster to type on, less pounding on the keys, and the keys just feel more generally solid.

I'm going to be bumped if the new Pros don't have the keyboard.

I wish people on the Internet would stop speaking for everybody.

Nice but there is a problem.. My 13'' (LATE 2011) MacBook Pro still runs like it did on the first day i bought it.. and i use it every single day and can't remember the last time i turned it off for more than a few minutes (restart) to install new OS's and betas/updates... Im gonna keep it for at least 3 more years... :)

The light up logo on the lid is not visible while using the machine. The iPhone does not have branding on the front, the iPad does not and the current rMPB range does not either. It's a matter of taste but I see no need to be reminded that I'm using a Macbook Pro while I'm using it.

No but its about as "in your face" as branding gets.

Am I the only one bothered by the lack of an SD card slot? So now when traveling I have to carry and extra adapter to upload pics from my DSLR? That sucks. I love Apple, but the whole trend of eliminating features still widely in use really irritates me!

(Still trying to find a decent app to replace the "digital picture frame" feature originally built into iPads. Would it have killed them to leave it there?)

I don't have a DSLR, so this is an honest question. Isn't there a port on the camera that you could connect a cable to to transfer files from the camera to the computer?

I have a Mid 2010 iMac. 8GB RAM, 3.5GHz i5... still runs like new. I REALLY want a new reina iMac, but have zero need.

There are other purposes for the Fn key than just modifying the Function keys on top of the keyboard. If you took it away, you'd be taking a lot of keys that currently require the Fn key to be replicated properly.

Yes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201236

Fn-Delete = Forward Delete
Fn-Up Arrow = Scroll up one page (Page Up)
Fn-Down Arrow = Scroll down one page (Page Down)
Fn-Left Arrow = Scroll to the beginning of document (Home)
Fn-Right Arrow = Scroll to the end of document (End)

There goes the highlight of the keynote
Actually I doubt it. First it's one of the few things that already were pretty certain. Then Apple was most likely aware that this resource would be discovered quite soon.

Apple Pay support in Germany would be bigger news.

Seriously. I'm on vim hours every day. I could map caps lock to ESC, but I already use that as my CTRL key, so that's not a good option.

This situation is pretty depressing. I could adapt to living without the function keys — despite the macros I've assigned to several of them — but the ESC key might be the last straw. After ten years of OS X, I may have to switch back to linux. Time to go browse the ugly laptops for sale at System76, I guess. :(

"Siri, escape."

If there is still an fn-key on the bottom left of the keyboard, then you probably have to hold it down every time you want to hit the esc-key or one of the f1-f12 keys.:eek:
This was my first thought. The images appear as though the fn key is still there.

"based on past part leaks, we're expecting four USB-C ports and a headphone jack, with the HDMI port, MagSafe port, and SD card slot being eliminated."

…and what of thunderbolt, is it Schrodinger's port?

TB 3 will be the same port as UCB-3, though that does mean you'll need an adapter for any device working on TB 2

Sales of 2015 MacBook Pro's skyrocket.
I was hoping they'd be discounted when the new model comes out so I could buy another one cheaply, but I'm afraid they may actually go up in price like the 2012 Mini did when the gimped 2014 version came out.

I recently tested the rMB keyboard at an Apple Store, and while I didn't like it, I wasn't convinced that I couldn't adapt to it and eventually prefer it. However, I'll need more testing time to be sure.

I seemed to experience hard impact on my fingers when using it. But again, maybe I can adjust and it won't turn out to be a carpal tunnel nightmare.

I agree with everyone on here about the NO IN YOUR FACE branding please Apple. Stay classy. Also NO glowing Apple for the lid please please please, or I'll have to figure a mod, I love the shiny metallic Apple.

I'm sad that they went back to the "MacBook Pro" text. It looked cleaner before, like an iPhone.

Also, that keyboard looks suspiciously thin. I'm getting anxiety just looking at it.
I'm actually glad they brought it back. Removing it in the Retina models felt like it was missing a part of its identity. Sounds stupid I know but the text, was in essence, it's logo and without it it just felt like an empty MacBook Pro shell missing it's tag.

I suppose you _will_ feel a hard impact if you are used to an old keyboard where the keys have to move a lot more. I tend to use very little force one the keyboard, producing very little impact, and that should happen to you after a very short time.

The details are very nice.
Can someone explain me where is the on/off button?
Isn't there a need for a physical button?

My TV has an on/off button that isn't a physical button. It could also be that there a button but we can't see it in the picture behind the finger...
