There is not a single scratch on any of my six iPods. Maybe you should take care of your possessions.

As to the photos? NOT SHOPPED. There is still the potential for them to be custom fakes, but being real is looking more and more likely.
Somehow I doubt this. Unless you use your iPod in some kind of vacuum-sealed chamber, I'm quite sure that at least one of your iPod models has hundreds of hairline scratches, which aren't deep and nearly invisible to the naked eye.

I only use my electronics in deep space.

Just received this image from a source of mine :D

This sounds like awesome news if it turns out to be true. Here's to hoping that they'll include the same camera across all the iPod Touch models.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

Meh! Interesting but I can wait to see it.

I was about to pay my friend $130 for his iPod Touch, but something told not to.

The Apple gods spoke to me. I must seize the moment.

lol obviously apple will do a camera ipod touch. why is it all scratcht up? this looks like a hard mod or something. we know apple will release one,so this is just kinda predictive mod work lol

The comments here about scratches suggesting its non-authenticity don't seem to hold. I have owned a lot of iPods and over a long time, about 2-3 months, several scratches and fingerprint stains just accumulate on the back (when you don't use a case ). So, if he says that the iPod touch was recycled for parts, then it makes sense that it went through a lot of **** to get to him.

It is never safe to say that something is real until we know it has come out. Apple is notorious for releasing fakes into the wild when they want a device to have some hazy features until the actual release. Though it is mid-August and with a September keynote in the rumor mill, the timing makes much sense. The only question I have is why did they move the camera to the middle, and what is the extra small hole for? A video recording/camera on indicator? That is usually how it works on cameras.

I mean now that I mention that, it does simply look like the iSight on the back of an iPod touch. But the video removes all possibility of a fake, in my opinion. It is really long and arduous to fake a video, from what I know. So this is a real device, but from where or what we really can't say. Prototype is what I'll mark it up as.

I'm mainly waiting for Snow Leopard (this is the only product I'm really interested in from Apple), a new nano, and iTunes 9.

I've got a 1st generation iPod Touch and it feels like a brick...

Digital compass?

Surely this device will also house a digital compass. Combined with the camera you are all set to use argmentet reality...

Am i way of?

Edit. Well if there is WLAN...

like what? Theres nothing much they can do. they have computers, they have a cell phone, they have a music player.

A digital camera/camcorder? may be, bjut there are far more advnaced models with features apple may think "suck" or "arnt cool enough"

a HD-TV? na, we got enough models.

So whats next?

How about a transportation "beam me up Scotty" device so I can press a button and have dinner in Paris?

Surely? No. Hopefully? Yes.

I have been trying to guess if the GPS and compass will be in the new Touch, too. My heart says yes, my mind says no. I think Apple will try to keep iPhone "special". I also think the battery life on the Touch with a GPS would be worse than one without, which will look like a downgrade from 2Gen to 3Gen. I think 2009 will be the year of the Touch camera, maybe the event will be "Get Snapping" or "Seems Snappier". Then we might see GPS in 2010...?

I hope I am wrong, and I will buy a new Touch for Xmas regardless. :)

looks legit..:D

edit: it is going to be impossible to top the creative zii egg. Apple is going to have to pull more then a camera out of their ass.

Let's face it folks. The third-generation iPod touch is essentially the iPhone 3Gs minus the cellphone functionality. And because of no need for cellphone chips, the 3G iPod touch will offer 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB storage capacities.

I'm not so sure about that, but if I remember correctly the GPS antenna is in that metallic ring around the camera (at least the iPhone camera) but you can see it in those pics as well, so I think there is at least a 50% possibility that the iPod touch is getting a GPS.
BTW, the GPS in the iPhone is on only when you need it, so I don't think battery life will be a problem.

i hope this is a hack because it just doesn't look good. i'd like to see a camera, but it isn't balanced - the wifi antenna and the camera together just look silly - bleh

hmm I hope this is true would be really good, I dont think i'll get one like cos I have an iPhone, but still good none the less

I'm thinking it is a test unit in the current iPod touch casing with a camera hole rather than the final case of the hopefully-soon-to-be announced model. I think Apple will do away with the shiny back for a plastic look, but pretty much the same form factor - I mean they really can't do much else given the screen size and space needed to house the components, can they? It is Apple though, so maybe they can!

[EDIT]I have been trying to guess if the GPS and compass will be in the new Touch, too.[/EDIT]

I am thinking with the Places function in iPhoto it would be a no brainer for Apple to include GPS in any device it ships with a camera?

Maybe this is the actual prototype device that went missing in China which ultimately resulted in that Foxconn employee committing suicide? I know they said it was a next gen iPhone but the timing on that seemed wrong to me. A next gen iPod Touch would be much more likely for the time frame.

Did a man die because of the device in these photos?

Wow, what a thread.

Interesting perspectives.

Personal take. This could easily be real. Camera in the middle makes sense when you consider the touch has it's WiFi antenna under the black patch. Demo/Test unit so it's going to be scratched.

BTW, Tallest Skil I find it hard to believe that you have 6 iPods that you've used which have no hairline scratches. If so, that is truly amazing.

Anyhow, I expect to see 32 and 64GB versions, faster processor, camera and maybe GPS. Hopefully the touch will keep the metal back and remain thin.

Edit: And maybe a compass. The problem with GPS is the maps. You will an app that let's you DL before using unlike the iPhone being able to use Google Maps.

so we get a refreshed touch with faster processor more RAAM and better graphics chip

2 or 3 MP camera with microphone (man I really wanted it at the bottom so I can start playing ocarina) why is everyone complaining?

and how are we all sure it won't have voice control, GPS, and a compass?. as mentioned before me GPS on an iPod touch with a camera would be great for the Places feature in iPhoto

this pinhole mic next to a camera reminds me of the iChat camera setup

I notice 2 things here that seem to add to the authenticity.

1. Apple's prototypes always seem to have red circuit boards, look at the prototype MacBook Air.

2. Apple doesn't put their logo or name on prototypes, as was the case with iPhones and the first iPod Touch's.

MacRumors claims that all circuit board are usually black. that may be the case now but I took apart an iPod nano 1G and it's green
