I have it all figured out...

Red motherboard = prototype, right? But I bet its a prototype of the second gen iPod touch... Apple must have scrapped the camera last minute. Why do you think it was found in some trash? Apple would not dispose of prototypes for unreleased products.

No, we saw no leaked case designs last year with a hole for the camera, also the iPod says "Apple 2009"

If it was the iPod touch 2G, why would it say (c) 2009 Apple?

I think this is definitely real. I mean, to fake the video, the guy would have to:

-Completely scrape off or use a solvent to get rid of the writing on the back of the case

-Cut out a circle of metal and stick a camera lens in it

-Convincingly paint the board red

Et cetera, et cetera.

There's no reason to disable video, seeing as this iPod touch will be competing with the Zune HD, PSP, and DSi. Apple can't really afford to cripple their hardware in a market like this.

To all the naysayers...

That's the next-gen iPod Touch. Video rules. Its not like its a huge detour from their roadmap. A camera on a device from a company obsessed with iPhoto? No way! :sarcasm:

Maybe this is the actual prototype device that went missing in China which ultimately resulted in that Foxconn employee committing suicide? I know they said it was a next gen iPhone but the timing on that seemed wrong to me. A next gen iPod Touch would be much more likely for the time frame.

Did a man die because of the device in these photos?

Mark

I was wondering the same thing when I first saw this news story.

See above ;)

Probably been asked already but what's the black spot on the Touch's? I would have guessed that that's where the camera would have gone.

Just received this image from a source of mine :D

thats what I would think the new touch may look like.

then again, I also think we may see a unibody design.

Good thought...

and?

If it was the iPod touch 2G, why would it say (c) 2009 Apple?

Do we know it says that? Is there a clear image?

thats the wi-fi attena. a thing that can always be moved, or even placed inside the device.

Looks like typical pictures of a UFO sighting to me...

I thought exactly the same thing! I mean, come on, hold the thing steady and get it in the frame and leave it there. Unless you don't want us to get a really good look at it. Wait, that would never happen. I've seen video of Bigfoot that looks better than this. Fake.

I found the case for this ipod on a chinese retail site. If this is fake, then they've gone pretty far to make it seem real.

Not exactly. It's a means for Wi-Fi signals to get in and out, since the rest of the iPod is metal (and the iPhone has a plastic back). So it covers the antenna, meaning you can't have a entirely metal back unless they find some other way to let Wi-Fi get through the metal.

The only way that it will be placed inside the device is if Apple changes the back to all plastic.

Yup.

Did you see the follow up pic? It's a lot harder to call that one a fake. I wouldn't venture to, although the obvious photoshop of the first pic makes me a little uneasy.

It's all fake apple wouldn't let anyone post picts of it up before the showing. Seriously people stop being conned into these things.

and may be thats the case. After all this could just be a prototype.

It has happen before.

I agree that people get so worked up over this. While it may be real, it does not mean thats what we will see come september. Just because "the mini did it" or "2007's nanos did" does not mean its the case this time around

This may be one of those weird apple tricks, where they release a FAKE product, to trick people into thinking its gonna be released, and then release something totally different.

That totally makes sense. May be the touch is expecting a major upgrade this time around.

look what I found:

ipod-touch-3g-3.jpg

http://www.9to5mac.com/ipod_touch_images

on the page it says:

What do you think - real or fake?

Update: So far the consensus is pretty much in the fake category, two good reasons so far:

1/ Look at the Dock - there's reflections, which aren't in the current OS.

2/ That poor iPod touch is pretty scratched?

1. Perhaps the reflections are in 3.1? if not, then this is clearly a fake.
2. been discussed..

EDIT: Just notice the multiple pages on that image. Perhaps that could be an iPhone with the phone apps on the other page and the "ipod" added to the top left corner, in place of "ATT"

So, were the new MacMini pics also a fake going by your definition of a fake ? Because they ended being pretty real even though they had "bunch of square patterns around the USB ports, which aren't all perfectly aligned once zoomed up in Photoshop, which is pretty indicative that this is a photoshop job going by my 20 years experience", same as this camera does.

Maybe you photoshop and Apple Legal experts should just give up and wait before you make total fools of yourselves like the last 200 times these types of pics have surfaced before a keynote.

here we go again. you think just because it happend before, it will happen again? please, get your head out of the clouds and be a bit more open minded.

What makes you so sure it won't? It's very possible. And it's also very not possible. How about you try to keep a more open mind?

What makes YOU sure that its real? Its a double standard...

Truth is, no one knows for sure. (hence why i;m not telling everyone "its real its real" or saying "it happend before so it will happen now, hence the reason why i'm open minded about this)

I'm not taking sides one way or the other. Personally, I could care less about the next gen iPod Touch. To say "this rumor/photo/video is true", or "this rumor/photo/video isn't true" is just stupid.

Open minded would be to take a wait and see approach, like I said, not to scream fake! all over the thread like you did. The fact is, "photoshop experts" are full of ****, about as credible as a bunch of blurry pics.

So how about heading your own advice and staying open minded ?
