i talked to a woman in the ATT store because i was curios about how ATT Next work for in store reservations. She said it would not be possible to upgrade on Next at the Apple Store. So then I called ATT customer support and the woman their said that it is possible to do this at an apple store. This reservation process has been not as awesome as i originally thought. Sorry for semi thread jacking but i haven't seen anyone talking about this specifically and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

The reps at these cellular stores work off commission. They will tell you anything. They are also mis informed. You can upgrade to next at Apple.

From 5th in NYC: from speaking to a rep in store
- They will hold the iphone until the end of the day (they said 24hrs), which I assume is midnight
- can only be there around reservation time. Will be interesting if its really enforced
- he said expect to wait a long time.. even though I told him I had reservation.

People are going nuts these last days. I went to the Apple Store where I did my reservation and asked to talk to the manager. He told me phones will be held all day long and will be released for walk-ins the next day. He also told me there are not many people per time slot. He didn't give me a number. He said he couldn't disclose that information and every store was different depending on their location and popularity. And last but not least, he said this is the first year they do reservations by time and they will only serve people during their time slot AND after in case they're late but those people are subject to wait for a long time. Hope this helps answer some questions about reservations.
This proves the point I have made several times that the only way to get reliable information about launch day plans is to speak to a store manager. The reps on the phone/chat and the normal reps in the store are mostly clueless. They spread all kinds of misinformation which ends up getting posted in these forums.

I just called the Apple store where I have a reservation and they said you have to show up within 3 hours of your appointment (before or after) for them to honor it. There will be a separate line for reservations and it will be long.

No way they would do this, if your appointment is 8 hours later then you show up then you should be put on the walk-in line, this would be a disaster if they did this, and it just makes zero sense.

I don't see why this would be difficult to manage. As someone arrives in the reservation line, an employee takes their Apple ID which has their reservation time associated with it. As a sales person comes available, they take the person with the earliest appointment time. If there are more than one waiting with that appointment time, they take the one who arrived earliest. I have a 9:30 appointment. I can arrive at 8:00 but they won't take me if there is anyone waiting with an appointment earlier than mine, regardless of whether they arrived later than me or not. If there are no more 8:00, 8:30 or 9:00 appointments waiting then I get called next (as long as there isn't a 9:30 person who arrived earlier than me.)

I would also say that if someone with an 8:00 am appointment arrives later than 8:30, then they get plugged into the group for the time they arrived. So if I have an 8:00 am appointment but arrive at 9:45, I am considered a 9:30 appointment. That's what I would do if I were in charge. :)

So, just to clarify, if I reserved my iPhone 6S 128GB SG for the 6-6:30pm time slot, that phone WILL be at the store when I get there, correct? There's no chance of anyone else getting it? Because I'm driving 120 miles to pick it up and will be FURIOUS if it's not there. I didn't have an online option as I'm doing the iPhone upgrade program so this is my first time doing a reservation. All of my early iPhones were line waiting and all of my later iPhones were preorder delivery. Thanks!

The store I'm picking up from opens at 9am. I have a 9:15 - 9:30am slot so hopefully I'll be in one of the first groups to be served. Going to try to get to the store for around 7am.
I have an appointment at 10:00-10:30 AM at my store, which opens at 8 AM. Hoping that by that time the reservation slots aren't being pushed back.

Ok. I have a question.

I have a reservation at 9am. My wife at 5pm. Can I pick up my wife's reservation at 9am when I pick up mine?

Probably no one knows, but just throwing that out there.

I would say call your particular store and ask, that might be a stretch in my opinion, but maybe you'll get lucky!

I would say that if you are an authorized user or the primary account holder, then you could.

Yes, the question now is just how long you have to wait.

I've said this before but keep in mind, for those who are going to do the upgrade program, whatever you experience on Friday is what you'll have to do EVERY year to upgrade. I have a 1-1:30 slot and after I arrive promptly at 1pm if I'm not in the store by 2pm, I walk. If I get there and they say they're running 2 hours behind, I walk. Sprint is making it very easy for me to sign up for the iPhone Forever plan and I don't ever need to leave my house to sign up or get the phone every year. If Apple wants me to come back every year they have one shot.

I am an authorized user on the account absolutely (that's how I'm getting mine). I'm hoping they say ok because they can take care of two transactions at the same time (I'm hoping). I want to do the iPhone Upgrade Program under me for both phones.

They should be able to; however, if I'm reading the confirmation email they sent, you would also be activating the phone there, so you may need to have your wife's phone with you at that time.

I doubt it. My understanding is that the last time they did appointments if you showed up early they sent you packing. Good grief, you can't even jump to the front of the line at the deli if you have a higher number. What makes you think that Apple is just going to have a free for all with people showing up hours before their appointments and people who are there on time waiting behind them. Makes no sense and it ain't gonna happen.

Sure it will. They have the pre-orders sitting out with names on them, and certain employees assigned to hand out pre-orders. They haven't pre-calculated every minute of the day to be filled handing out pre-orders. So if they can get some of these off their hands early, they will.

I would say no, but the store may make an exception. It seems they are going to be strict about turning people away who try and check in early, but who knows for sure.

Yeah exactly. I mean I do have an appointment. So let's see what happens.

Why would I need her old phone?

Why would I need her old phone?

You might need her phone. Per their email, they will be activating the new phone, so you would at least need a backup of it, but if you pick up her phone, unless you can get it to her in short fashion, she'll be without the phone for the day until you can get it to her..

Yeah I can bring it to her, that would be fine :)

If I were to ask to switch to a 64 from a 16 and they can not do that, would I be able to walk out with the phone I reserved and come back a different day for the model I would like and exchange it?

Within the return period of course...
