My guess is by "this morning" he meant sometime between opening and noon. Although I wasn't available until like 11 anyways so if it was before/at opening it wouldn't have been mine.
When I was at the Ridgedale store, there were probably half a dozen people just checking out the RMBP's with the Apple sales people talking to them. All it takes is for the shipment to come in during the day and one or two people who just happened to walk into the store to browse to say, "This is cool, I'll buy one." Boom, they walk right out the door. For this reason even if you call and they have one or two, I would place my money on them being gone before you even get there.
The most frustrating part was most of them were completely clueless. "Oh, so I can like, see my photos better with this?" One girl next to me literally said, "So what's the difference with all the different gigahertzes, I never really understood that..." Yes, these are the people who are walking out with a $2200+ Retina MacBook Pro meant for professionals just because they happened to walk in at the right time, think it's cool, and have the money to blow on it.
