WOW. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN.

If you haven't read my story, it's on page 25, but to put it short... I called, said they had it. Went, they didn't. Twice at the Apple store in 2 days.

Now, I called a Best Buy, they said they had it. I made sure that the lady repeated "Retina" over and over. I drove an hour there, AGAIN (literally right next to the Garden State Plaza mall with the same Apple store in it), and they told me they never had any. Are you serious?! I HATE PARAMUS.

Did you read my story, they did the SAME EXACT THING to me at that best buy.

It makes me extrememly sad :(

----------

I called international plaza this morning at 9 and they told me they had none. -_-

That's funny that they told you they had none. Comical how clueless/un-informed store employees are. I actually watched a guy buy one this morning. When I asked about getting one, I was told they only had 2 for sale and both had been sold.

Called all 5 again, nothing. Employee at Southdale told me they sold 2 "this morning", that's it.

Two. WTF Apple? Launch a new product and 2 days after launch you only have four to five units max in the entire state of Minnesota? This launch is a joke.

Honestly, I don't even blame their uninformed, uneducated employees (both Apple and Best Buy) anymore. It's Apple's fault for confusing the hell out of people by giving the 2 models essentially the same name. If they just called the new one something different, I don't think any of this would have happened.

this is what i think....apple had no idea what the reception of these new rmbps would be, so they didn't manufacturer a ton of them with the risk of having to hold it as inventory and lose money.

I fully blame the employees. You would think that after the 10 calls about them, they would take 5 minutes, do research and understand what is going on.

This is part of why I say this launch is botched. They really should have announced it at WWDC with a release date 2 or 3 weeks out. Gives time to build stock in stores and in the factories, time for developers to update apps, time to iron out performance issues like those we are seeing reported, etc. Also gives them time to judge what the response is and adjust manufacturing to match.

Right now this whole thing is just a cluster%@#$.

What?! How come they didn't tell us that when we called BEFORE opening?! ****ing idiots... Those 2 could've been ours.

My guess is by "this morning" he meant sometime between opening and noon. Although I wasn't available until like 11 anyways so if it was before/at opening it wouldn't have been mine.

When I was at the Ridgedale store, there were probably half a dozen people just checking out the RMBP's with the Apple sales people talking to them. All it takes is for the shipment to come in during the day and one or two people who just happened to walk into the store to browse to say, "This is cool, I'll buy one." Boom, they walk right out the door. For this reason even if you call and they have one or two, I would place my money on them being gone before you even get there.

The most frustrating part was most of them were completely clueless. "Oh, so I can like, see my photos better with this?" One (college-aged) girl next to me literally said, "So what's the difference with all the different gigahertzes, I never really understood that..." Then her mom said to the Apple sales guy, "So these are like the best for all the Windows and Adobe stuff, right?" Yes, these are the people who are walking out with a $2200+ Retina MacBook Pro meant for professionals just because they happened to walk in at the right time, think it's cool, and have the money to blow on it.

Oh god why. :(

No, I meant why didn't they tell us they had STOCK without telling us. That makes absolutely no sense. It couldn't have been after the shipment because they even said they got none in their shipment. God damn this is frustrating.

Ugh I know, I don't get why they can't reserve them like Best Buy. I would love to be at the store right when they get stock but I simply can't, not to mention the fact that any of these 5 stores could be getting them at any time doesn't help at all.

bridgestreet in huntsville, al had some and sold them all around 5:30-7 tonight. i had called around 4:30 and then just after 7 and missed them. they said they won't get any more til next week

I was told the same when I called them, however, when I called them before 10 the lady asked me which one I was looking for as there were 2 configurations. However, before I could answer she said they were sold out already (as if they sold out just right then and there). She said they had them in stock and already sold out of them and don't know when they will get more... Not sure who to believe.
The guy was right! I kept checking the Apple Store App on my iPod throughout the day and around 4:30 PM I saw the base model of the RMBP available. Quickly I booked it and booked to the store. Waited for a while as they said they just got it in and had to unpack it and enter it into the system. While paying for it the guy said that's probably the only one they'll sell today as the rest are for display.

I hit jackpot, I didn't see any other stores have any available in the App, even right now. And I gave the store my name & number to call me if they got one, as well as 6 other stores that carry Apple products and none has gotten back to me yet. So I guess the Apple Store App is your best bet & lots of prayer. :D

Still no retinas at Pacific Centre in Vancouver as of 5:30, but the specialist there mentioned they were expected in the next couple of days.
Everyone I've called has told me next couple of days. Of course two days ago they also told me "tomorrow." I honestly don't think anyone really knows what's up, they are just making assumptions.

It makes me extrememly sad :(

I called international plaza this morning at 9 and they told me they had none. -_-

I called about 2pm and they said none. In Brandon Store they told me to order it on line for store pick up. Of course that option is not available. They did not appear to know that.

----------

Same here. International Plaza had 2 at 10am and sold them right when they opened. Went back at 530 and they didn't have any others for sale today, according to the less than helpful employee I spoke to.

Tell me about it!

Are you looking for a base?

How did you do that? Every time I add it to my cart in the app, it just says "not eligible for pickup in store".

Oh congrats btw, you've got some amazing luck.

How did you check if the store had it? it says pickup is not available...

It is amazing, that a company like Apple, who prides itself on customer service, hires some of the store employees they do. I have, on numerous occasions, corrected some "sales" information that was given to a customer after the sales rep walked away. The customer doesn't know I am correct or not, but it will hopefully encourage them to think/research some more before buying.
I know alot more than most employees because I genuinely love this stuff and spend tons of time keeping up with the industry. For me it's a passion, not just a job.
But can I get a part time job at an Apple store? Nooooo! Oh well. They can make this company even greater, but instead select front line staff that do not care much about what they are selling. No passion.

so the question now is, what's going to be the situation tomorrow?

from the sounds of things, the stores received their display models, and depending on the size of the store and their layout, some had surplus models available.. most likely because the staff or their friends and family didn't get first dibs on them.

will they be receiving a huge standard shipment tomorrow?

because this will be the biggest mac geek c***tease ever if they don't. Stories about regular folk staring at a display model and just buying one, strikes sadness into those like myself who scour forums like this and stand outside a store before it opens like a sour lemon.

It's embarrassing all round.

I only have hope that a large shipment will come tomorrow or friday due to the fact most stores have a sizeable display. I personally feel that an initial batch was in the country last week, that could get to stores ASAP, and let them have time to set up the display stands for window shoppers. Then the product will be let loose tomorrow.

I can't see why they would put up a display stand for something that isn't available.. or maybe they simply didn't forsee the demand, or more likely they did.. because all sense flies out the window once you realise something is hard to get. Someone could tell me the new Retina display has the potential to give me eye cancer.. I'd stil want one.

who else is deciding between waiting outside Tampa or Brandon tomorrow morning?

Honestly, no reason to wait. Neither store has a clue (or atleast is will to say) if they will have them for sale tomorrow. I called both stores around 845 tonight, both said the same thing....check back tomorrow.

I had called at 5 and they told me they didn't have any (and I went in person at 3 before that). I wasn't going to call again but I was bored at 8 so I called....they got some BUT all they had left were models with FRENCH keyboards, they sold all the english ones :( So between 5 and 8 they got them and sold them all? I call BS  Damn!

Does anyone know if they get deliveries at night and or morning? I'm thinking of showing up first thing tomorrow morning but this launch is such a joke I'm not expecting to get one...

Anyone have any luck in the Columbus OH stores? I checked both Polaris and Easton stores. None and employees had no idea what was going on :(
