How did you do that? Every time I add it to my cart in the app, it just says "not eligible for pickup in store".

Oh congrats btw, you've got some amazing luck.
I go to the Stores tab in the App, select the store I want, then scroll down to Reserve Product, then select the desired product. :D

It's not actually a purchase from the "shopping" area of the App but part of the Retail Store section where you reserve a product and go to the store to pay for it and pick it up.

Can't say it's luck, but I'm extremely happy. :D

so the question now is, what's going to be the situation tomorrow?

from the sounds of things, the stores received their display models, and depending on the size of the store and their layout, some had surplus models available.. most likely because the staff or their friends and family didn't get first dibs on them.

will they be receiving a huge standard shipment tomorrow?

because this will be the biggest mac geek c***tease ever if they don't. Stories about regular folk staring at a display model and just buying one, strikes sadness into those like myself who scour forums like this and stand outside a store before it opens like a sour lemon.

It's embarrassing all round.

I only have hope that a large shipment will come tomorrow or friday due to the fact most stores have a sizeable display. I personally feel that an initial batch was in the country last week, that could get to stores ASAP, and let them have time to set up the display stands for window shoppers. Then the product will be let loose tomorrow.

I can't see why they would put up a display stand for something that isn't available.. or maybe they simply didn't forsee the demand, or more likely they did.. because all sense flies out the window once you realise something is hard to get. Someone could tell me the new Retina display has the potential to give me eye cancer.. I'd stil want one.

who else is deciding between waiting outside Tampa or Brandon tomorrow morning?

Best summary of the situation that I've read so far.

What remains to be seen is whether we get a wave of large shipments or whether this turns into a 3-4 week mess of absolutely no availability.

Can someone confirm if this works? May need to dig up my old iPod Touch if true. Or is there an Android app?

Keep trying guys, you'll get one. I called wonderful tax free Salem NH today store today at 11am and they had one Retina MBP left and sold it t me over the phone (I am a business customer so the are allowed to sell over phone). Picked it up tonight. So keep trying. I asked if they got many in and they just looked at me and laughed, then said "nope."

I wish I could say I was for business.. Im 20 though and am using the student discount to buy it lol -_-

Sir Al, post a screenshot of the app or I'm calling BS.

Edit: Maybe this is only for certain stores/markets...

I dont see a reserve option  All I see is Back to School, macbook pro, genius bar, one to one, and workshops and events as the options

One thing I did notice in the app on the iPhone was this. I could add an item to the cart, and the item would say "not eligible for pickup", but if I scroll down in the cart, there's a separate button for "pick up store". I can click that and then locate stores and click to check status. I'm not sure if it's actually "doing" anything on the back end, but maybe this is the new location for whatever feature that other guy claimed to see in his app?

I haven't seen it show in stock anywhere, but it definitely acts like it's checking something.

I cant even select pick up store because it says no items available for in store pickup in that window too. Very weird....

I can't click on that either...

Are you clicking on "pick up this item" or on "pick up store" which is down below by the shipping method and address?

Really? I can... Hmm.

It says "pick up store: No items available for in store pickup" in grey.

EDIT: If you just add the MacBook Pro Retina, it doesn't let you click on it. If you add a different item along with it, it lets you click it, but it only tells you the stock for the other item.

Well, I found out I can get a business discount through my work, and the woman on the business line said she would set one aside for me if they got more in... she made it very clear that this option was only available for business customers though, not anybody else (I'd inquired about an education discount).

What I'm wondering is... what's to stop me from buying it after they've set it aside, returning it, and then immediately re-buying it with my education discount (which is slightly cheaper)..? In theory, couldn't I just go to say, a different Apple store?

I think this might be what the guy was talking about reserving?
For the record, I'm canadian if that makes a difference.
