so the question now is, what's going to be the situation tomorrow?

from the sounds of things, the stores received their display models, and depending on the size of the store and their layout, some had surplus models available.. most likely because the staff or their friends and family didn't get first dibs on them.

will they be receiving a huge standard shipment tomorrow?

because this will be the biggest mac geek c***tease ever if they don't. Stories about regular folk staring at a display model and just buying one, strikes sadness into those like myself who scour forums like this and stand outside a store before it opens like a sour lemon.

It's embarrassing all round.

I only have hope that a large shipment will come tomorrow or friday due to the fact most stores have a sizeable display. I personally feel that an initial batch was in the country last week, that could get to stores ASAP, and let them have time to set up the display stands for window shoppers. Then the product will be let loose tomorrow.

I can't see why they would put up a display stand for something that isn't available.. or maybe they simply didn't forsee the demand, or more likely they did.. because all sense flies out the window once you realise something is hard to get. Someone could tell me the new Retina display has the potential to give me eye cancer.. I'd stil want one.

who else is deciding between waiting outside Tampa or Brandon tomorrow morning?

I'm deciding between Tampa Brandon and the two in Orlando.

Called all six Apple stores in the South Florida region this morning and none of them had the retina mbp for sale. Will repeat tomorrow morning and every morning after that until I have my hands on that retina display

I'm doing the same in Central Florida until Next Wednesday. Hope it doesnt take that long.

I might head up to Brandon tomorrow.

I'm in Sarasota, so I'm not real excited on heading up there on a whim... honestly I'm not sure what would be worse: going up hoping to get lucky, or calling ahead and finding out they have 2.

I honestly don't know what I'll do, I just keep expecting a substantial shipment to arrive, but I thought that yesterday too...

As did I. I was at the store in Orlando today at 10 because they had some. But they sold out by the time I got there. Called Altemonte springs and the had some. A family member was in Altemonte springs so I called him. He was there in less than 10 minutes, still no luck. :(

So does this work to check stock or no?

With the app at the moment, the retinas arent available for reservation where as the other laptops are. However, I don't know if that's because lack of stock or because there's a restriction on the retina models.

I think it's a restriction on Retina models, as the regular online store doesn't list it as "Not in stock" (which the store previously did with standard items out of stock) but rather that it is ineligible for in-store pick up.

went to King of Prussia tonight..6 units for display there...really amazing product..just can't wait to get one as soon as they have any for sale~~~
btw, I prefer the bigger one:)

Does anyone else find the display slightly humorous?

I just don't see the point... the hanging MacBook Airs make sense... is it supposed to be showing the scaling of the retina display?

I'll admit I didn't exactly study the thing for writing while I was walking in, as I went straight to asking if they had any, to no avail of course.

Yeah me either. Like why do you have one coming out of the keyboard of a huge one?

I left one store as soon as I found out they didn't have any. I waited for a while at a different store because they "just got a shipment in" but didn't know if it had any in it.

It told me that none of the stores have it, so maybe? I'm not sure. It would on a regular product but these RMBPs are weird.

Would it be a bad idea for me to take the Northstar down to Minneapolis tomorrow or Friday? I figure that I'll be closer to all of the stores and could get there with a taxi, IF any of the Apple stores get any. I'm in Elk River rn. I just don't want to go down there, spend the money on a taxi if a store does get them, then be disappointed if they run out of stock and be out the cost of the taxi.

As much as I want one, I wouldn't do that unless I was guranteed one.

I think this might be what the guy was talking about reserving?
For the record, I'm canadian if that makes a difference.

My app doesn't have that option, and the back arrow at the top is labeled "Find a Store" instead of "Stores". Are you on an older version maybe?

The Northstar is cheap as hell - like $5. The only thing that I'd be worried about is taxis. Hmm. Maybe I'll save the idea for Saturday if I don't have one already. I'll have rides both tomorrow and Friday I think, although it'd be kinda inconvenient for my family. If I find one tomorrow I'll just need to have a taxi come and pick me up because I'll be a little out of the city with my dad working.

I'm wondering as well. I'm guessing they will be available tomorrow as I wouldn't think they'd do a mid day in store-refresh. I would think they'd need to close for a few hours to take all old models down and get the new ones running and secured.

Yes, I'm sure that the app is not an older version seeing as I just downloaded it from the app store. Then again, are you canadian or American? That might make a difference, I'm not sure.

Best summary of the situation that I've read so far.

What remains to be seen is whether we get a wave of large shipments or whether this turns into a 3-4 week mess of absolutely no availability.

Geez, this seems to happen on every release of every Apple product. Takes a few days for any to hit the stores and a few weeks or months to catch up to demand.

Any of you pay attention to the latest iPad or iPhone launch? Same thing.

Hard to believe any of you are surprised.

I think they do refresh when they get shipments.

This is a $2,200 device. Should be less demand.
