Walked in Apple Store, was told they just came in but are not on display till tomorrow.

I said can you sell one today,...Sure.
She types the order in the iphone and said someone will bring it out.

I'm thinking wow this was easy.

Then I see Blue Shirts come out of the back whispering...
One walks over and says sorry none available for sale and no in store preorders or holds.

Yes, I'm sure that the app is not an older version seeing as I just downloaded it from the app store. Then again, are you canadian or American? That might make a difference, I'm not sure.

A-ha! That's it! If I select a store in Canada, then I get the option to reserve products. Now all I need to do is reserve one and book a flight LOL. I really wonder why that option isn't supported for US stores.

As we can see in this thread, the demand is strong

Only because supply is wayyyyyy less

LOL. In the end I'm not sure how useful that feature is though. Everything is reservable exept the RMBP which says "not available to reserve". Who knows what that means...whether its no stock or they're refusing reserves.

I got one reserved at my local BestBuy earlier. They had none in stock but were giving out reservations. Apparently I'm only 2nd on their reservation list. They are expecting some tomorrow.

Decided I'd get it through BB to get their $200 Apple education discount match and $150 BB gift card and lastly I'll have the option to finance this beast for 18 months. Hoping I get a call tomorrow morning. :)

Exactly. Demand only seems strong because Apple clearly didn't think this launch through. First time I've ever seen an Apple product with shipment stocks of 4-5 units in the first days after announcement. Even iPads had at least 10-20 units per shipment at my local Apple store.

How do you get Best Buy to do that?

This has been a horrible launch.

I read another thread and someone had gotten the new RMBP from a BB and they said that they were matching the $200 education discount Apple gives and I believe they are also offering a $100 gift card. But also heard reports of BB upping it to $150 this year.

All I got was the reservation, and I know a lot of BB's are doing it. I did get a verbal confirmation regarding the $200 discount match. Not entirely sure on the gift card. I'm mainly doing it for the financing. I have the cash on hand but much rather finance over 18mo if i can.

So I just sold my MacBook air that I bought 5 months ago.... Now the hunt truly begins

My best buy said they didn't do that.

So an interesting experience at the Century City Apple Store here in LA. They said they didn't have any (of course), but they said if I got it under a "business account", I could get it shipped Monday and delivered Tuesday. So they had me fill out the business form (for my self business), made copies of my drivers license and credit card and asked which one I wanted. After that, they said they would send me an email before they charged my card. However, I haven't gotten anything yet. I'll call them back tomorrow and see if they actually put it through, or blew smoke up my ass.

They said the reason behind getting it sooner, is that to Apple, businesses get priority. I hope they're right. :)

My best buy said the same thing when I called. But i decided to go in and talk to their Apple specialists they have in store.

I have a very good credit history. Probably only have $1000 on credit right now, this will jump it to $3000. I make my payments on time and can more than afford it. Easy way to build my credit even more.....:)

I might head up to Brandon tomorrow.

I'm in Sarasota, so I'm not real excited on heading up there on a whim... honestly I'm not sure what would be worse: going up hoping to get lucky, or calling ahead and finding out they have 2.

I honestly don't know what I'll do, I just keep expecting a substantial shipment to arrive, but I thought that yesterday too...

Dude, I'm Bradenton, am in the exact same quandary... If I call at nine and find out they have 2-3, that will basically mean "why the hell weren't you camped out here last night you sad moron".

If someone could just tell me within the next 7 days I will be able to walk into a store and buy one, I can take my chill pill. Otherwise all I will be concerned about is this company I love have released a product that matches pretty much my dream requirements for a notebook, but I won't be able to get it because I decided to wait to watch the keynote spoiler free, because I appreciate the product presentation and marketing skills of said company.. But even if I didn't, the only way I could get this product within a reasonable amount of time was immediately pay $3k within minutes of being allowed to and not having a chance to even read a hands on review.

Fair enough, you're rich and have time to spare.. You deserve priorities. But for those that are willing to buy this product in person, to do more than click the mouse a few times and actually drive out to a store.. Apple if you're listening, these are your real customers, your real fanbase, don't play around with them just because you can. I don't even bother considering other manufacturers and their products, but because of this recent nonsense I found out what a Samsung series 9 is.

I'm frankly getting tired of any game or product release that causes me to throw all my plans out the window, and make me line up.. We are consumers and this is a democracy, but it really feels like we're living in a communistic society lining up for a product. That 1984 apple ad is so ironic when you think about it, we have become the masses who can't think differently.

This is a $2,200 device. Should be less demand.

I know a phone has more general appeal and use, but to be fair once you add up a 2 year iPhone contract, you are not far off 2k, and an adequately specced iPad is not far off 1k. To me it's not the price issue, it's the fact a laptop aimed at people that aren't the mainstream has got so much demand. If I could look t it from the outside I'd be applauding apple, they made a laptop that drops a lot of features people seem to rely on, it's a first gen product, yet it's pretty much sold out within an hour or so.

But I can't applaud them, because I want one now. My current notebook is almost 6 years old, then apple release a laptop with air thickness, iMac power and a screen that will play 2k files, with near 3k resolution, USB 3 and 2x thunderbolts... Sorry, but rarely have I been this turned on by something that doesn't expect dinner and a movie.

I called the Apple Store in Pasadena, CA at 9:30 this morning, and they said they had limited quantities available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Arrived at 10:20AM and they had already sold the two they had in stock.

I am planning on trying again tomorrow morning. I will call the five closest Apple Stores at 9AM and immediately drive to whichever one has any in stock. If multiple stores say that they have some in stock, my parents have each offered to drive to a store shortly after 9AM, so I can have three out of five stores covered tomorrow morning if needed. I certainly hope I can pick up a Retina MacBook Pro tomorrow!

When the iPad came out I was standing in line outside the flagship store in London, the guy in front of me was sharply dressed but had no real idea what the fuss was about, his boss paid him to come out and stand in line, I was tired and almost hungover, I didn't care for all the hype and contests going on, I just admired the product and wanted one.. But I acknoledged how crazy it was that someone was being paid to stand in the same queue I was in, and most likely earned more than I did.. It said so much.

I applaud your ingenuinty and am envious that your family members are willing to help you out. If you don't end up getting your notebook, it will be a sad state of affairs.

Good luck mate!!!

I just shipped mine out today that I sold on Saturday. Hoping to score a RMBP by the end of the week! :D

Surely one of the 7 Apple Stores in the state should eventually get some in stock ;)

Yeah I ate a 600 dollar loss on my air, because I gave the lower spec 13 inch model to a friend for 900 flat, which cost me almost 1500 with warranty and all.

Its worth it though.

I decided to order on Amazon with one-day shipping. I saw a retina today at the store and while its a little glossier than I like (I am currently using a Matte 2007 MBP) its not that bad and I don't think it will hurt my eyes to work on. And damn its just too sexy to pass up.

I work a lot and the reality is I don't see myself being able to make it to the apple store in the morning any time soon. I don't feel like driving to different stores a dozen times and I don't want to wait "3-4 weeks" by ordering on apple.com.

Amazon is about the same with the education discount - minus the $100 gift card but oh well I'd rather not wait weeks trying to nab one.

Of course if one day I call and they happen to have one in stock and it hasn't shipped from Amazon yet....maybe I'll cancel the order :)

I will never get why best buy gets these before all the apples stores get them even as displays. I have yet to hear from the local stores if they have any, they say keep calling... I don't think they will have the one I want anyways. 2.6/16gb/512 I think this will be a popular option though. Guess Im stuck waiting until july 6th... if It goes as apple says. I have yet to hear of any apple stores in Canada though which have received the retina display macbook pros.

Let us know if anyone actually gets a unit from Best Buy this week. I have my hopes up but I'm not very confident.

I spoke to multiple Best Buy stores today who confirmed that they had units in route to the stores with UPS, so I would think those would arrive in the next 48 hours or less.

Do you happen to reside in/near NJ?

For what it's worth... when the iPhone 4 first came out, they took my preorder for a white one (which obviously didn't exist). I'm still holding on to that stupid $50 BB gift card years later.

Why won't amazon have at least a 3-4 week wait? Outside the box, Best Buy is you best bet seemingtly, but Amazon won't get stock earlier than Apple online.. right?
