I don't see it, but as long as you have an Sku and have them enter it in, it shouldn't be a problem. I've also heard its based store by store. Some stores strictly do not do it, others do, so that may be the reason they dont have any advertising.

Thanks for posting the pic and SKU. Was able to reserve the 2.6GHz/512GB model at a local Best Buy and hope they will apply this discount on top of EDU pricing!

IS anyone in Maryland, Virginia or DC best buy matching that 150 dollars GIFT CARD!??

Good lord. My local best buys are evil and devil.

Don't even start with apple store. They have 0 in stock and 6 in display.

Screw them too.

the tenleytown best buy matched the EDU discount and gave me the gift card. not sure if they have anything in stock right now though so do call ahead

I managed to snag one at the Best Buy in Paramus! They said I got the only one! and when I called Apple to cancel my online order, the person was shocked to hear I got one! I got $200 off but no gift card, oh well! And they pressured me into getting a 1 year replacement plan :p

I just sent that picture and asked macmall to price match it. I am going to send all the apple authorized dealers and see who is going to price match including Amazon.

BTW, Best buy is just plain stupid. We are spending over 2000 dollars on laptop.

Which means we will be most likely going to become silver premiere members. You don't see people who spend 2500 dollars a year with one company on electronics. My local best buy likes to screw customers.

I just got the base model from the best buy in Ft. Myers, Fl. They had a few more in stock when i was the about 2 hours ago. If you want to get one i would say your best bet would be to call all best buys in your area. I had to call about 8 before I for one with a retina in stock. Also make sure that it is the correct model by giving them the SKU. Best buys will hold the computer for you until you get there, so it sounds like best buy is for sure the easiest way to get a retina macbook pro right now.

So, just got my RMBP from the Best Buy that's basically in my backyard here in Culver City. I called and asked if they have the Retina MBPs and she asked which one, the 2199? I said yes and she said to hold on. In the background (glad she didn't put me on hold) I heard her talking to another person and caught her saying "I haven't told him we have one yet". At the point I started walking there. She came back on the phone and said that they didn't have any. I called her out that I heard her say that they have some and just haven't told me yet. She responded that she said that cause she wasn't sure if I was coming now and they were first come, first serve. I told her I was 2 minutes away and rushed. When I got there I guess they were working with another person who had a return and wanted the RMBP also, I just waited patiently and she brought it over to me instead. I don't know what happened with the other guy or why, but I didn't ask. The other guy didn't look to happy, glad he didn't wait for me in the parking lot :)

When I asked about the student discount she said she wasn't sure and called over the manager. He said that they'd give me a $150 gift card but no discount. I asked why they won't price match the Apple store and he said they are and that Apple is only giving a $100 discount. I showed them my receipt from my online purchase and he said that they'd knock the price down to $1999, but no gift card.

Figured I'd go back tomorrow with the picture from the forum and see if I can't get the gift card also. Always worth hoping, either that or talk to corporate depending on how much luck people have online here.

Chandler Fashion Mall BestBuy low end base model in stock. They have one right now. I want the 512 so I passed on it.

Figured I'd post this pic again, take it with you and have them enter the sku seen on the receipt for the gift card.

They should match discounts for students, not sure about government or work related discounts.

Finally got mine from Best Buy!

I called earlier today, and they had two in stock. They placed one on hold for me and I just showed up with the Best Buy receipt picture from this thread. The manager knew to give a $150 gift card, but only wanted to take $100 off for the student discount. After showing him the discount Apple was offering on the online store, he gave me the $200 off with the $150 gift card.

Glad I read through this thread and gave Best Buy a call.

So I just noticed that store pick up has been added, but it looks like the est. date is July 20th. I guess my question is, if they get units ahead of that do I get one, or do I have to wait for "mine" to arrive?

Happy to hear that. Still waiting for my BB to get some in stock.

Alright, wanted to pick my MBPR from Best Buy before I posted this. You can track which ones have them or will have them soon with this link (base model):

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?id=pcat17006&type=page&sourceId=1218646126928&sourceType=product&skuId=5430514&productId=1218646126928&itemId=1557734&contract_desc=2+YEARS+NEW&pageMode=searchmode

Just enter your zip code. Found two stores today that had them in my area (showed up as "Coming Soon")...chose the store with the lower taxes and called them. Have them look up the SKU (5430514 for the base model) and they should be able to hold one for you at the customer service desk. Store I called showed 2, one was probably for the display.

If you have issues with the $200 student discount see if there is an apple rep at the store. It was the rep who got my $200 discount straightened out. The best buy employee thought it was only $100 but the rep corrected him and I got both the discount and gift card.

I just got a base rMBP from the Worcester MA Best Buy. I called first and they said they didnt have them. I drove there anyway. I saw one on display and asked to buy one. They sold me the last one!
Guys, just visit a local Best Buy...the folks on the phone are either being told to misinform or just dont know what they're talking about.

I just bought one over the phone. They didn't have the model I was looking for at the store I called, but they were willing to send it over from another store. My only fear is that there was a mistake in inventory levels at the other store or that someone will swoop in and buy the one I bought tonight. What do you guys think?

You probably did! Where you there when they were putting out the 2 new display models?

They were already out so I probably just missed you. Played with it for about 10 minutes. Wow!! The screen is all I can say.

I asked some sales people about how come this roll out has been such a disaster. One told me it was an expensive computer so they didn't make that many right off at the start. Interesting response I thought

So I called Apple and they said that if the store gets any stock, they should try and fill any store pick up orders. So hopefully that's the case. Either way, it looks like all apple stores are now offering store pick up, starting from one month from now. However, hopefully they will be ready sooner.

so if I go to a best buy and buy the base model but want the RAM upgrade, can I bring it into an apple store and have them do the RAM upgrade for the $200? or do I have to order online :(

Got one! The base model. I had called Best Buy (Chicago burbs) earlier in the day and they told me they didn't have any and they might get their shipment tomorrow. They told me to check back then.

I read on here about the reservations and called back this afternoon asking about the Retina's and if there was a waiting list I could put my name on. The employee told me to hang on and came back on 2 minutes later saying they actually have one. He put it on hold for me for an hour and I went after work. I asked about the student discount match and they had to call and confirm Apple was doing that and ended up giving it to me.
